Re: Race Report Rnd 5 Sebring

First I want say THX for hosting and the hole organisation for the sunday events.

Here is my short ;D report for my first F1 race:

Although I thought I prepared myself not so bad for this event I realized my mistake in the pratice and qualifying.
My prepared setup was based on soft tyres because i thought the wear of supersoft ist to heavy. Mistake 1
My prepared setup was based on fuel for around 9 laps because i thought with the mandatory pitstop i can refuel for the remaining laps. Mistake 2
At the end of the practice time i realized that drs is allowed :o . Never uses this before. OK no problem quick setup a button for drs no big deal ;D
But how it works ? After type some stupid qustions in the chat marcel (thx) explained how it works to me.

Fine here i am with my "suboptimal" setup on soft tyres half of the needed fuel and with working drs that i've never used before :o

A good place in qualifying was not so important for me because my focus was to finish the race and drive constant lap times.
10th place was ok for me.

First race was not so bad for my first time with the F1 car. Only the accelerate after very slow turns made really big problems the hole race .
Also hard was to keep attention to the side mirros to avoid a crash during a possible overtaking maneuver.
But all in all it was a 9th place in race one and that was ok for me and my perfect preparation ;D

After changing the shirt drink some coke zero i felt ready for the second race with the minimum goal to catch a 9th place.
But during the start my car was hit from behind and I made some loopings after a hard landing and some searching which direction is the right now Tongue
I started the race with a damaged car in last position. >Sad
Meanwhile I also lost my front flap and had some problems to explain my pit crew that they should only repair the front flap not the whole body.
In the last lap last corner I had lost my rear flap (without collision :o ) and had some luck to catch the finishline ;D
Finished in 12th place.
Not so good but at least finished Smile

RE: SR4L Fun Event Rnd 5 Sebring - gorgias1976 - 25-03-2013

There was less carnage than could have been expected and also tires did last longer then I would have thought.
It's such a great car to drive, it's going to be hard to get back to the 60's F2, they're going to feel really slow.

RE: SR4L Fun Event Rnd 5 Sebring - Kalanur - 25-03-2013

First race:
I hit race, game froze until 40 seconds after race start which lead to me raging in front of my monitor and doing one mistake after the other. Cant even remember if or where I have finished the race.

Second race:
The game was kind enough to not freeze this time. Race started, I did my normal bad start, got hit in the back, lost my car shortly after it and crashed into other cars. Car was damaged of course so I had to pit and wasn't clever enough to choose a harder compound so I wouldn't have to pit twice. So I did the same as in the first race: I was raging in front of my monitor and doing mistakes :p

In the end it was still fun somehow, the car is awesome and you guys are awesome. After racing the MR01 it's hard to get back into the old tin cans on wheels. Hopefully we will do more modern open wheeler races.

Thanks, as usual, for the hosting and support. Like Wim, I had a game-induced nightmare. Had no pitbox available (possible solution on ISI forum- delete leaked Aussie tracks) and also was launched unrealistically and unfairly by a small piece of debris. Should simply have been a puncture at worst, which would have been very immersive.
Very disappointing!
On a more positive note, I love driving these cars. Was delighted to get well into the 1.35s.
I find it much harder to be quick in these at Malaysia though, and I don't know why. If anyone has any ideas, I'd welcome them.
Again, enjoying being part of this community.

RE: SR4L Fun Event Rnd 5 Sebring - 1959nikos - 25-03-2013

Report from the back.

All week I had terrible battles with technology.
If using paddles was not enough, I had to understand how this antistall thing worked and what DRS is.
Turned out DRS was the easy part, I just assigned it to the left button of my G25.
Antistall was a mystery and to make things worse I decided mid-week to go for left foot braking.
I had done it before, at my Rally sims, I guessed it would be easy to adapt again, no, it wasnt.
Except the new tricks and the old dog, G25 pedals are not really suited for it, not much space for two slippers side by side there.
Slippers off, better now, still habits cannot be forgoten, comes a bend, I press brakes with left foot and step on left foot with right foot as I was not really sure what was happening (oh, at the same time I pressed the DRS button just in case).

Come Sunday I made the obvious decision to go for auto clutch and this helped.
I also assigned pit limiter to right button of wheel and I hoped my brain cells wouldnt explode with so much new info.

Quali

Quali went good, I did an early decent (for me) 1:44, went for puff puff, only to find Neela in front (its turning into a habit of hers).

1st Race

Very sad moment, Vittorio just left race at the start and didnt come back, I thought I had good chances of taking him, he seemed he didnt have much practise on Marussia.

Took off well, braked for T2 as cars were pilling up dangerously in there, then I was airborne from a big slam from behind, chaos everywhere, I got upside again with bend steering.
It wasnt terrible so normally I would make half of distance with it, but then I remembered I had fuel for all race so I decided to pit and take my chances with the tyres.
Rest of race was not really good, I wasnt concentrating, so I made lots of mistakes, sorry if I bothered anyone.

2nd Race

Good start again, too much brakes at the chicane, spun off, and nightmare trying to get back on track started.
When car stopped I was already pressing the brakes hard with left foot, thinking it was the clutch so I wouldnt stall. Trying to get off, car wouldnt, why should it, I was still braking hard.
I pressed throttle more, pressed brakes more, I saw a thermometer appear at left top of screen, I realised I was frying the engine, suddenly brain cells opened to let info in and I was in the track again.

Things started going smooth, I went into pitstop after Neela, exited after her and I saw her slowing down at right side of T1.
Momentarily block of info through the brain cells, I thought a good chance to pass mrs Ferguson, I rushed into T1 to have my mirrors full of mr Ferguson, I suppose a lot of @#$$%^&$#*(( were thrown to my dirrection for good reason.

(yes, I know)

2nd half was the best for me, I was following Paul Swire and had some good battles in our own way, he spun, I was in front, I spun, he was in front, he spun I was in front, etc.
At some point Alex who was in front and was getting away fast, had some bad moments and got 17secs behind me, that was 3 laps before finish, I guessed that was a safe margin if brain cells stay ok, they did, I had a cool 10th, feels nice having points Big Grin

A very satisfying race, big attendance, many finishers, we met a new fast guy too, Mickael (btw is he sr4l?).

Btw, I would gladly give DJ's left nut to learn how to take chicane properly...

Apparently it works if you dont have auto-clutch on.
Then you must press clutch in 10sec or it stalls.
F1s have a button for this, but when I assigned a button on wheel it was very difficult to operate and used my pedal clutch instead.
But you forget all this if you use auto-clutch, so I did.

Very useful the anti-stall feature when spinning. Just head left foot to clutch pedal and it desactivates by its own.

I seem to be the guy who does not see the tiny blue flag. Sorry.....When I do see it and move over it seems it's too late. I then proceed to not see the stop and go penalty and get DQ'd. I'm going to my eye doctor and complain Smile. Great turn out and lot's of great drivers and racing once again. Got caught up in the first lap pileup at chicane, where cars started flying everywhere. Funny to watch but not so in game. Soon I shall finish a race and heed the warnings properly...

RE: SR4L Fun Event Rnd 5 Sebring - Lecram - 25-03-2013

Not my kind of car but most of you know that I suppose. I'm so curious to what will happen when ISI releases full contact patch, I think even these will be a lot better to drive.

Anyway, in practice I thought I had a good chance of diving under 35 as I did a 35.2 with some mistakes. In qualify however, I couldn't get it together so I was stuck in 2nd place after a great lap by Mickael. I wasn't worried about it because I knew I would start on the grippy raceline, theres almost no way of heading first into turn 1 if you start from the dirty left side of the track. More about this subject later this reply...

So I got the lead as I'd expected. I drove carefully with Mickael on my tail for about 8 laps but at lap 9, I braked a bit too late for turn 2, got it back together but Mickael smelled blood and passed me. Not entirely though as he cutted across to line up for turn 4 too early, ran over my front wing and we both spun. We got on our way again, in same position as before as I did not feel like I did something wrong. But damage was done, my tires were shot and a couple of turns later Mickael passed me again, I saw it too late and we touched but no biggie this time.
So I tip-toed to the pits, did a 10 second stop and got on my way again. I don't recall much of the remaining laps, Gorka was getting closer, I ran wide for the final turn, probably lost focus way before that. I tried to recover but while doing so, I hit Gorka who tried to pass and I rolled over a couple of times. I decided to quit, probably had severe damage now and I didn't feel like wrecking more peoples races. Still had a good feeling about those first laps, could have easily gone the other way if not for the contact.

Race 2 I started behind Gorka, who had to stop for the pile up in front and I was just too late braking, I hit him and got damage.
Drove around the rest of the carnage and the second pile up at the hairpin and found myself 2 or 3 seconds behind Mickael after a couple of laps. My tires went fast, because of the damage probably and so I decided to pit early, after 6 laps racing. I almost missed pit entry, hit the wall and got more damage and so a 36 second stop was the result. So no good result today I thought but as I was driving very carefully, I kept gaining spots till I was in fourth place behind Yerke. I closed in on him but while doing so I felt the car sliding more and more so I backed off. Still fourth after an endless stop, not too shabby.

Fun event but I was happy to drive the Spark F2 again after the raceservers came back online. Smile

So back to the start positions. I noticed at Palm Beach there is the same problem. Getting pole is a disadvantage if you have to start from the dirty side. I will deal with it as everyone has to if it's not going to change but I politely ask Bryan and Paul to take a look at that for the upcoming events.

Cheers,

RE: SR4L Fun Event Rnd 5 Sebring - Fergy - 25-03-2013

Lots of fun, great turn out. F1's are by far what I can set up and drive better.

Race 1,
Had a great chase with Gorka in race one, shame we hit although I did wait for him to catch up so the battle could continue but something must have gone wrong for him as I didn't see him again. Pretty happy with a second place.

Race 2, Hectic at he start as usual. I saw the fast Mickael fly down the inside in a bold move which paid off for him. I had a pretty clean race and gave some faster guys some grief to boot Tongue second place.

Cheers,

That has reminded me of the Senna-Prost incident at Suzuka in 1990.
It was the last race of the season and the championship was on the line.
Senna took the pole but pole position started at the inside but dirty line. He at all cost tried grid positions to be altered and therefore starting at the clean side, but he was said Suzuka was that way and no change was going to be made.
At race start Prost had more grip and overtook Senna, but Senna didn't pull off at turn1 and brought both cars to crash, ending the race for both and making him the world champion.

RE: SR4L Fun Event Rnd 5 Sebring - Lecram - 26-03-2013

Yeah, Balestre had his eyes on Prost. I think Senna was right though, not in his actions of course. :o

On the other hand... ;D

RE: SR4L Fun Event Rnd 5 Sebring - Lecram - 26-03-2013

Oh and btw, server loads realroad file at race, instead of naturally progressing. :-*

RE: SR4L Fun Event Rnd 5 Sebring - Lecram - 26-03-2013

And to continue my endless whine; First, I'm sure I did 40 laps with the Eve F2 just now, no useless pit out's, rFactor said 40 laps, live timing says 148. Definately an issue with live timing, not problematic though. Smile

And second, the realroad file currently loaded. It's made entirely by ai and I don't know why ISI made them drive these crazy lines through, for example, the last 2 turns. (see attachment) Any race car driver would stay right (inside) through the corner after the back-straight and start turning left when the curbs on the right end. AI takes a line which will cost you top speed at s/f straight, not to mention how hard it is to take the last corner this way.

So what I would suggest is to delete the current realroad file loaded on the server, let us create one from scratch (green) by ourselves tonight and use that because it will be so much nicer (looking), not so narrow and better to drive to boot. (no sudden transitions of grip levels)

Smile

RE: SR4L Fun Event Rnd 5 Sebring - 1959nikos - 26-03-2013

I noticed that too, its amost impossible to follow the rubber line there.
Also kerbs always touch racing lines, there its the opposite.
