RE: ARI Fun Race #12 Palm Beach - gorgias1976 - 21-10-2012

Let's start

Qualy.
As expected Marcel was on pole. I was able to get second which was in my expectations.

Race1
Pole here is a bit of a problem as that's the dirty line while second grid place is set parallel to pole position and in the clean lane. A bit unfair.
That let me take first position at the start. Lots of battles trying to defend my position with Marcel and from the atacks from Nik and David Cr. at the end. Finally able to end second.
At some moment I saw David Cr spun at turn 3, he was battling Nik, don't know if there was contact there.
I had an incident two laps to the end at the first turn with Nik. He tried the inside, I'd say i left him enough room but we touched spinning both (lucky to quick restart engine as the car was moving just shifting first gear and fully releasing clutch).
Don't know why I felt quite comfortable at Qualy with this setup but during race had lot's of traction problem. Changed to a different setup for the next races.

Race 2.
with the green track surprise I could not take Marcel's position at the start. At turn 1 braking, as it was all green cars started locking and I saw some cars aproaching like bullets through the mirrors. With the fear of being hit by someone losing it there I decided to "take" the shortcut through turn 2 and let Marcel and Nik pass me at turn 3 braking. At turn four I saw Marcel go a little wide and Nik started going sideways. I tried to brake but just could not avoid Nik. Hit him and I spun losing a hell of positions. The rest of the race was a battle for positions. Don't even remember where I ended.

Race 3. Reverse grid. Start was carefull and clean. At turn three Everon undeliberately hit me from behind and sent me to the last place (Accidents happen). The rest of the race was a battle for positions, ending finally 4th, 3 secs behind 3rd place. Some heavy battles at the front between Nik and David Cr.

RE: ARI Fun Race #12 Palm Beach - KnightofRedemption - 22-10-2012

Qualy...Panic! I have no engine sounds from anyone...Should I even race? couple of test laps and okay I'm as slow as hell because I have to keep looking at my rev counter at inopportune moments and am constantly over or under revving but I keep an eye on my mirrors to spot people coming up behind and stay on track so what the hell

Race 1,2,3 all done in serene silence except the rushing of the wind and the grateful beeps of drivers I let by. not too much racing apart from the last race were I had some fun with another back marker, still all sorted now.

RE: ARI Fun Race #12 Palm Beach - Psinet - 22-10-2012

New member Psinet fell asleep at the wheel, after staying up all night to make the race. In what must be the most courageous performance of the entire series (I just joined but.....you know), the sun rose over south-eastern Australia just as the race began for him. Bleary-eyed and dopey in his first ever organized race (in a car game, online, with a steering wheel - ever - anywhere - sherious), there was a lot to see for Psinet. Even by the end of the first corner rush, the bends were becoming one and gracefully merging into N-dimensional Calabi-Yau manifolds.

4hrs later he awoke with a start, bashing his head on the steering wheel.

"What 2nd race?".

RE: ARI Fun Race #12 Palm Beach - deecee52 - 22-10-2012

Race 1

Started from 5th held position on start and managed to stay on the tail of DJC for a couple of laps but the top group started to drop me as I couldn’t match their pace , Everon slowly reeled me in and pressured me into a mistake and got the pass , we battled all race long and then it appeared that I was losing front end grip , the car just wouldn’t turn in and he managed to pull clear 2 laps from the finish .

Race 2

Started 6th , made a good start and held position was holding my own again with the top group until Gorka spun at turn 5 and I could not avoid him and hit him nose to nose , fortunately no damage done to me, but lost a couple of places , tried hard to get back to speed , but too hard , I was over driving which ended up with me throwing myself at the wall in turn 3 , fortunately I didn’t hit it , a quick slap on the wrist and swallow another handfull of valium and back to racing, slowly worked my way back to where I started 6th

Race 3

Made a good start and came out of turn 1 in 2nd , stayed on the tail of the guy in front until he went wide on last turn and slipped through , joy o joy I was in first place and clear , it stayed that way for another couple of laps but Nik loomed large in my mirrors which I spent too much time looking at and promptly spun myself out onto the grass at turn 6 , lost a shed load of places , got going again and started to move up when Everon arrived on my tail , he definitely had a better setup than me and was using it well , he was all over me for a couple of laps but I was managing to hold him , then at turn 6 he inadvertently tapped us both into a spin , we both got going again but on the next lap he was back and tight on my tail along the back straight , I knew he was going to try at the last corner so I decided to brake very late to encourage him to take too much speed , this he duly did and went very wide so I slipped back under him and got the place back , last lap and we were in the same situation , I tried the same manouver and again he went wide and the hole opened for me , I charged into it but Everon had gathered it together and the hole was closing fast , I braked as hard as I dared but ended up tapping his rear and putting him into a half spin , so I stopped and let him recover and followed him home it was his corner and he deserved the place , great racing Everon I enjoyed that.

Big thanks to Dany for all the effort in running this meeting and thanks to all for good racing

RE: ARI Fun Race #12 Palm Beach - Lecram - 22-10-2012

Qualify:

Qualify went very smooth for me, I set a time similar to my F3-pb here, quite confident it would be fast enough for pole.

As stated earlier by Gorka, pole is good if you want the inside line into the first corner but not so good if you want to get away from the start faster than the 2nd placed driver. I've stopped blaming my bad starts solely to myself, it's also the non-rubbered part of the track that plays a part in there. :-\

So prior to qualifying, I was pretty early on the server and drove about 40 laps, hoping I would get pole and therefore, each practice lap I crossed finish line at the left instead of the race-line. From what I could see it didn't help me much in terms of seeing a rubbered groove appear there. Sad

Race 1:

So knowing all this, I tried my best to avoid wheelspin at the start but it still seemed too much as Gorka passed me and I had to let go first place entering the first corner. I stayed close to Gorka, he drove in the middle of the backstraight the first laps and I was hoping he would do that too if I had a good enough slipstream to get alongside. My final gear was not really setup for slipstream, it was long enough for solo-laps but I missed a bit topspeed when behind someone. After a couple of laps I was able to pull aside Gorka at his left on the backstraight. Knowing I had the rubbered line and knowing Gorka would have a hard time on the green part, I could brake quite late and pass him on the outside.

From there-on I tried to get away and that worked out very well, finishing 1st.

Race 2:

Oops, the rubber had dissapeared. Yeah, that explains why my start was better than the one from the first race and so I entered turn one in first place. Nik Babin showed great pace in the first race and I had him almost on my tail for quite some time. I was still in cruising mode which I got used to in the last part of race one but that wasn't enough to keep Nik off my back so I had to push a little more. Until the point where I think Nik gave up or had a battle with Gorka, I dunno, I got more and more breathing space so 1st again Smile

Race 3:

Starting from the last position on the grid, I took it very easy the first laps. A lot of drivers went off track so that was easy until I was at the rear of Paul Ceglia. It was soon clear he wouldn't let me pass easily and it was then, I really regretted not setting my final gear one click longer cause it was quite hard to get aside of him at the backstretch. So I tried to make him nervous by staying as close as possible through corners and braking without crashing in to him, meanwhile seeing the others run away in the distance. Luckily, after some laps, Paul made a mistake in the first chicane and got onto the grass exiting so that made the way clear for me to catch David Cruickshank and Nik Babin who were in the lead, 3 or 4 seconds ahead at that point. At first I made some mistakes here and there and I was thinking: 'well they sure could be gaining on me while slipstreaming what I gained to them by pushing it under braking and in the corners so I may never get any closer', but I managed to drive some quick laps and I was able to catch them finally, while they were having a great battle from the way it looked.
A bit too much of a battle at the end so it turned out because they touched each other while entering the final corners of the track and though not easy, I managed to avoid them and while Nik waited for David to get going again, I was driving in first place again. I almost couldn't believe it! Again I had to push to get a gap between me and those slipstreaming cars behind me but for the 3rd time this evening I got to enjoy the top of the podium! Very happy with my first hattrick here at ARI. (first ever? probably not Big Grin )

Thanks a lot all and as I said many times before, a big thanks to the SR4L team, great effort by you guys and , not only because of my results till now, a joy to spend time with you all!

RE: ARI Fun Race #12 Palm Beach - turtle - 23-10-2012

Hi!
I like this track and I did thousands of laps and tried hundreds of setups, ok, maybe some less...but I was only able to go below 1:29 just twice before sunday...surprise, I did 1:28Confusedomething for the qualy! Big Grin I am happy with that.

All my 3 races were more or less the same, bad start, trying to pass the first corner chicane without contact and keep the pace and position during the race (8th).

I was unable to catch front runners and I tried to keep Paul Ceglia behind me but sooner or later he managed to pass me Wink
Also Nikos was close, and we pass each other a couple of times, but I think I was slightly faster and was able to finish on front of him.

Third race was not so good for me, at the end of first lap, on the exit of last corner, when all fast drivers had just passed me and I was happy right behind them, I was too hard on the throtle and hit the wall...something went wrong with the car and I had to slow down 2 seconds per lap.

It was fun but I wish I was faster to be closer to the fight in front Tongue

Thanks all for another nice racing evening Smile I can't wait for the next one.

turtle Wrote:Also Nikos was close, and we pass each other a couple of times, but I think I was slightly faster and was able to finish on front of him.

You were a lot faster, I couldnt get down of my best 1:30 all week.
What surprised me, when I changed to 118, suddenly back end was very sensitive at braking so I changed bias, was it only me?
