My machine crashed on the end of warmup and I could not reboot in time for the race start. Still on zero points this season - not quite what I hoped for.

RE: SIM RACERS 4 LIFE - BT44 SEASON - ROUND 3 - MONACO - REPORTS - Hedlund - 06-11-2016

So, 3rd on the grid.. that's okay but to be honest I aimed for pole. I was able to to 1:15 flat within the 30 first practice laps last week so I'd have expected to break into the 14's by now but I guess I would have needed a little more practice. Instead I was pretty much 4th on the grid (Coyne on the inside after all..).

Got a really good start and immediately got past DJ.. I thought I was second but suddenly realised I had Coyne by my side and had to back off a little.. That resulted in DJ overtook me again.. Grrrr.. 4th on a track like Monaco and I saw Gorka just sailing away in the lead. I realised it was going to be a tough evening. But to my surprise I was in 2nd place in only two laps! Got past DJ after the chicane simply because I had a lot higher speed, and then I managed to do the exactly same thing to Coyne the next lap. Suddenly it looked a lot more promising, and I started to chase Gorka who already had a couple of seconds. We had lots of traffic all the time and after the chicane I was going to lap Emery who probably had damage... He was driving slowly but he crashed into the wall and his car totally unrealistically flew out in the middle of the track and there I was... I thought the race was over as I had lost my front wheel.. But I wanted some points today and linked back to pits for a 2 minute+ repair. I entered the track between Gorka and DJ and that was lucky because that made my race a bit more interesting. I let DJ pass me and then followed them to watch their battle for 1st. I gained position after position too, and I was back in 7th when next disaster strucked... This time it was Gorka standing still in the chicane and I had no chance to avoid him. Car was heavy damaged AND fell into the water, so suddenly I lost 1 lap and that was when I gave up...

Bad luck today. It would be better if it was my own mistakes because it feels better to be angry with myself than someone else... Still no points this season.

RE: SIM RACERS 4 LIFE - BT44 SEASON - ROUND 3 - MONACO - REPORTS - 1959nikos - 06-11-2016

Me and my teamie went really good tonight, him on pole, me 8th(!!!! I cant believe it).

I was determined to stay cool and stay at the back watching the carnage and it worked, was like a disaster movie, suspensions and wheels flying up in the air.

By half of race I found myself iside the 10 best but then disaster hit me as I looked for info I hit the barriers downhill after Casino. Typicall.

Suspension was bent but I still go almost full throttle. Only problem that car dived left on the brakes.

Lap by lap I got used to it, it helped that people kept crashing around me Big Grin so I ended up in a coooool 8th, a race worth to remember for me Big Grin

RE: SIM RACERS 4 LIFE - BT44 SEASON - ROUND 3 - MONACO - REPORTS - gorgias1976 - 06-11-2016

Full of incidents during the race. No one to blame, as "race opener" you usually get the worst of the traffic.

Qualy
------
Didn't know what times I could achieve. In a driving like crazy lap I reached 14s. I thought that was enough. For a moment I was having the pole position untill DjC took it for 70ms. Really close.
Didn't push any longer as I wanted to save my energies for the race.

Race
------
I couldn't hear the siren sounds on the start. Just had to rely on the timing on the hud. Not the best of starts but enough to get turn 1 in first place.
Race went by with lots of traffic, that made me lose all my advantages, first with Rik, which I had a 5 second advantage when we was able to get in second place.
I also had a small crash just prior to Rik's first one. One car was battling Paul just ahead and finally crashed just being thrown in front of me. That made me hit his rear and damage my front. From that moment my car was understeery which, alongside heavy traffic, helped DjC getting closer to me.
Many dangerous situations took place, just too many coin tosses, finally luck wouldn't be on my way.
Approaching a lapped car at the tunnel he was quite a long way ahead, I had no worries for early braking for the chicane, but unfortunately as I was braking I saw the car was way too slow aiming for the entry.
I had to brake as hard as I could to avoid touching him. So I did but I lost the rear on the entry of the chicane hitting the barriers, spinning and being a wall for DjC and Rick. I got my front left lost in that incident.
Went for repairs, 2+ minutes and went back on track completely out of focus. 2 laps later I went to visit Rik in his pineapple house under the sea.

Accidents happen, better here than in other tracks. Maybe we should reconsider Monaco when we race this type of cars where racing speed differ a lot between drivers.

RE: SIM RACERS 4 LIFE - BT44 SEASON - ROUND 3 - MONACO - REPORTS - Ricknau - 06-11-2016

22 car field. Wow! Qualified about 15, about 5 seconds off the pole time as usual. Kept my nose clean early on knowing that survival would be half the battle here. Slowing climbed through the field through attrition. Only mistake was a bobble and spin at Massenet about 20 laps in but luckily no damage. Ran mostly in P5-P8 as various crashes and pit stops occurred. Rose to P4 for the last 10 or 12 laps with my team mate John Cook right behind me. He never pressured, probably thinking a team P4 P5 finish wasn't worth risking a wreck. Then on last lap I saw him in my mirrors go airborne at the chicane! But somehow he brought home to save a good team finish!

WTG to the Daves for an awesome P1 P2 performance, lapping the field twice!

You cannot have F1 without Monaco, better do drag racing instead.

I like monaco too but today it was crazy.. I felt like a maniac being chased by police and trying to handle traffic. Like gorka said, speed differences was just unbelievable. I do the chicane in 230 kmh, and when approaching a slow guy I try to slow down and still I might go twice as fast as him.. Impossible to know, and braking too hard will make you loose the car. Not strange accidents will occur Tongue difficult track indeed..

I have seen tons of Monaco races in my life, first one must been early 70s.

The rule of the game here was always, always, you cannot pass unless man infront lets you, blue flag or no blue flag.

I think we tend to always forget what happens in real life, we shouldnt, we like to think our game as a real life simulation.
You said yourself you diced a lot at this race, I dont think (hope) you would do that IRL.

RE: SIM RACERS 4 LIFE - BT44 SEASON - ROUND 3 - MONACO - REPORTS - Harri Mac - 06-11-2016

Close to where I live there are one track wide roads with very high hedges so it's like driving between green walls. They are twisty, you never drive faster than you can brake for a corner because there could be oncoming vehicles including buses or even cows in the road. I drove Monaco like one of those because I was very tired. Had a few non damage accidents but as it went on got more and more starey so I wasn't concentrating properly. Had a major accident and lost a wheel, contemplated quitting but decided to try for the pits. Took 2 minutes to get there and then 2 minutes repair! Set off with fresh tyres, dozed at the wheel again and had to brake harshly, damaged the car again. Seriously considered naffing the whole thing off but decided NO! Only a watery death plummet will stop me! Got there in the end many laps down but better than quitting Smile

I tried to stay out of the way because I don't feel overly well and am tired, hope I was considerate to other drivers.

RE: SIM RACERS 4 LIFE - BT44 SEASON - ROUND 3 - MONACO - REPORTS - deecee52 - 06-11-2016

Qually

Went out a couple of times trying to secure 4th place , I knew I couldnt get pole but 4th would give me a good grid spot , fortunately I got lucky .

Race

I had a game plan for this one , I knew if I tried to lap in the 16s – 17s my tyres would not make it , but if I kept to 18s I would be ok , I was counting on the fast guys using their tyres battling with each other then I could pick up any crumbs I just needed to be on my own to pace myself .

Got a good start and came out of turn 1 in second , nearly cocked it up at turn 2 sliding wide on cold tyres but got away with it , could see Rik charging past DJ so I knew I would be next , I didnt want to be in front of him and DJ or my race wouldnt work the way I wanted .

I didnt try to fight when the challenges came so within a couple of laps i ended up back in 4th with a few seconds on Dan , got my head down and just concentrated hard on hitting 18s and preserving the tyres .
As the race developed I could see I was pulling away from 5th and when I got a gap of 50 secs was considering a pitstop to be sure of finishing , next minute I was leading !! , no way was I going to do a stop now , my concentration level just went through the roof I had a chance of a win .

When DJ appeared in second I automatically started to speed up but then I got a grip and dropped back to plan as I had 60 secs on him , I then started to slow to ensure I didnt screw up at the chicane etc , those last laps were the longest I have ever driven .

I remember sitting in a passenger seat in a Lancia Beta Coupe at one of these roads late 60s at speed in Somerset so I dig Big Grin

RE: SIM RACERS 4 LIFE - BT44 SEASON - ROUND 3 - MONACO - REPORTS - sdancourt - 07-11-2016

This is Monaco & I love it.

Qualy: Beginning to learn how to set this car and starting to going faster. Here you really make the time in the chicane, a very dangerous way to do a good lap time. I got two settings, one for qualy and one for race. P6 with a very nice 1.17.6xx in the end.

Race: I knew before the start, as everybody in SR4L, that the bussines here is to endure, to last, but failed to set a race pace with this idea on mind and stick to it. Anyway, I was very cautious at the beginning and lost two positions and the start, Jerry and Harri got over me before enter Saint devote, stayed in P8 for a while till Jerry crashed heavily, then I was P7 behind Harri, knowing she will crash sooner or later. At that moment, laps 2 to 5, my main concern was checking who was behind me and how close, it was Tobias who were doing slower than me, so no danger at all. I should have maintaining the position and forgot Harri, but not, Greed took over me as I wanna be as close as possible to her and in doing this I brake late entering the Chicane and lost control (maybe because I was using a very extreme brake bias and blocked the rear wheels) got medium damage on rear suspension ,after one more lap, I decided to enter and repair, 25 seconds later I re-entered the race in P15 and last car in track. That was when I begun to think and start lapping at a consistent pace doing around 1.21-1.22 per lap and taking extreme care on my new tyres. This was enough to recover position after position until I got P7 again around lap 27, massacre all around me. I was 11 seconds behind Ed when I braked late again, entering Saint Devote this time and blocked the rear tyres again, hit the barriers and got freeze, shut down the PC and saying good bye to another lovely Monaco race. I love this one hour races because add the need to learn how to control yourself while driving as fast as you can instead of playing just bumper cars, a real plus for a already great game that can go beyond and converting in a great sport. Those were my thoughts when Gorka, DJ and Rik overtook me like a storm exiting Pottiers around lap 20. See you at Zolder.

RE: SIM RACERS 4 LIFE - BT44 SEASON - ROUND 3 - MONACO - REPORTS - gorgias1976 - 07-11-2016

Get well Tim, that's what's important.

Talking back bussiness, it's not that we three were playing bumper cars, not at all. We were racing for a race win, you cannot afford driving with a hand out of the window in that condition with the two fastest men's breath in your neck. Anyway we were going fast but still driving with conciousness, knowing the race was long and the three were lapping without mistakes. I just wished David could hold Rik and DjC for a bit longer.

Biggest difficultness was that in lap 2 we already were in traffic. There was no trouble at all, only dangerous situations took place at the chicane where speeds were too different. It's not the drivers, it's the type of corner, dangerous in 4th, 3th or 2nd gear and nowhere to move if you need to avoid someone.

It was great sweaty fun anyway. During the first lap my arms were heavy as lead mainly when going through the chicane, the nervousness of race start.

I personally dont think that would be fair , all SR4L members are entitled to race . We all have an accelerator and brake and are capable of driving according to conditions .
For me the only hairy moments i had was when passing backmarkers and knowing which side to pass , quite a few times i had to stand on the brakes as i went for one side and they decided to move over and give me the other side , but to be fair everyone appeared to drive very well and watch thier mirrors and not hold faster cars up .

as an aside

when i crossed the finish last night i let out a whoop of joy , i said to the wife its her lucky night , she said she had a headache , i said its OK its not her head i am interested in .
As i picked myself up off the floor i was thinking James Hunt never had this problem , but , that guy had all his own teeth and no hearing aids ;D

RE: SIM RACERS 4 LIFE - BT44 SEASON - ROUND 3 - MONACO - REPORTS - gorgias1976 - 07-11-2016

It feels so good when winning, David. Sadly it happens not so often to me.

I also don't think any timing rule is necessary. We are a fun racing community, and that is our main badge. We compete but firstly we do it for fun and everybody is invited to join, slow or fast.
We all get ungry/frustrated when an incident happens. To me, 5 minutes later it's all gone.
Now it's time to focus in Zolder. I've never liked it much so let's see if I can be any competitive there.
