RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - Fergy - 28-09-2012 I'll be looking forward to reading race reports for next weeks Belgium race, good luck all. RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - Paul Swire - 07-10-2012 First off what a great turn out!! ![]() First race, I started last which i prefer so i can keep clear of the first corner mayhem which there was some of which I managed to work my way around. By the end of the first lap I managed to move up to 8th by avoiding accidents. However on second lap I had a blank screen moment and that ended my race, by the time I got visual back I was flying across the grass somewhere lol. Second race, I started in second ??? don't know how i got there. Any way managed a false start so that was me having to do a drive thru at the end of lap one when I got there. Unfortuanetly I didn't get that far I came off at Les Combes hit the barrier and the fence went flying and landed on top of Nikos ( sorry Nikos :-[ ) That was race two over. Third race ( Reverse Grid ), started in pole. Mamaged to get a clean start this time. however lost three places by Eue Rouge but going into Raidillon I had contact with someone and ended up the bank into the trees. Again race over. Had a great time, didn't actually finish a race but still had a good night. Looking forward to the next one. ;D RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - gorgias1976 - 07-10-2012 Here comes my report. Race 1. Being second in qualifying was the best to get a clean way out. Did a nice start but not enough to completely pass Marcel, so I eased off (no point in battle there) and remained in his slipstream. Somebody's yellow car (sorry for not knowing who) and DJC where behind me. After what I call the "flags" chicane I decided to pass Marcel through the right. The drivers behind where there too. Just prior the next fast left right chicane I think I saw through the mirrors DJC and Marcel take contact an crash. At this point it was just racing alone for the remaining five and a half laps, so victory was quite comfortable. Race 2. As Marcel had crashed early in race 1 and I had won I was quite comfy I was starting on pole and I was going to have a lone easy race again. But suddenly I found my self starting fourth in the grid (why :-[ ? ) and marcel right behind me. I was able to make a hell of a fast start and go pass the cars of Jesus and Nikos. being second at eau rouge, but seeing Marcel right behind me. At this point I knew this was going to be a difficult race. Paul was leading in front but he went loose at Les combes and went through the barriers. So it was all between Marcel and I. We kept the whole race passing each other and searching out our weak points. We knew the one who had the slipstream at the final fast section had 75% chances of winning. It was Marcels turn then. I had the idea of letting him pass me, and as soon at that happened ease the throttle and try to regain back before the curves in his slipstream. But it was not posible. Final chance was in the last two curves. Really close through there. Moved a little to the right just before the braking as if trying a suicide dive (but braking normally) trying to make him brake later and go wide. Well he went a little wide in the braking but not enough so I couldn't pass him and finished second. Race 3 First idea was to get out of trouble and then keep fighting for positions. But as I was set in the grid I saw I wasat the very left, with DJC in the front and a nice clean corridor ahead. As I know DJC is a good starter I decided to try and make a fast start behind him. So that was it. I did a good start and took several positions before eau rouge. Then at eau rouge I was at the very left just behind Paul S. He went a little wide at the righthander and lost the line and speed. At this moment I knew that if I kept behind him I was going to lose a lot of positions (everybody was fast through the right) So I tried the gap he left through the left as I was appraching him quicker. But I guess he didn't see/expect me to be there so he went to the apex at the left and we both crashed. I couldn't control the car from spinning around so I just stopped right in front of Vittorio who could do nothing to avoid me and damaged his car (mine was already quite seriously damaged). The rest of the race was a sweaty battle trying to handle the car, but two laps later I definetly lost control and crashed killing car's engine. Final Note: What happened to all those people who signed and raced during the week?. Only Paul W was a new driver today. RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - 1959nikos - 07-10-2012 News from the backfield. Vittorio managed to come today, thumbs up Vittorio! Also, new man Paul Wicham and what a success he was, finishing in top places in all three races! Spa turned out a disaster for me. At first race, although I had a very good place on the grid in front of Vittorio and Jesus, I stalled and started last. I managed to attack and soon I was on the tail of Jesus battling Vittorio. Come 2nd lap, I made a stupid mistake exiting Blanchinont and bented car. As it was drivable, decided to limp till finish, hoping Id pick some points, so Vittorio doesnt dissapear at general standings. To my surprise, cars in front limped more than me and getting used to the damaged car, I pushed as much as I could. To top it all, I passed Vittorio and PaulW just before finish, to get my 1st podium ever, a sour podium, as Vittorio was out of fuel becayse of the misanderstanding of race laps ![]() (ARI announcement was 5 laps, but actual race was 6 !!??) Second race I had a strong start, but exiting Les Combes, a sliding Paul Swire decided to fly from right side of track, to opposite left, right on my head, nothing he could do about it, his car bounced like a rubber ball, I trully ducked under my desk lol. Third race was worse, again a strong start from me, first time I welcomed reverse grid, as I was well prepared (for my standards) for Spa, but someone decided to push me off track at the start of Masta straight (stupid really as it was the end of his race too). Cest la vie. RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - KnightofRedemption - 08-10-2012 First thanks to Nikos who encouraged me to take part and has been very supportive. Three very different races, Race one. With seconds to spare I got enough fuel in the tank for the unexpected extra lap, and stayed back from the first corner crush to settle into my steady grove. I was happily lapping on my own when rounding a corner at full bore I came across someone slowly driving across the track in front of me after an off, why he did not wait for me to pass I do not know, but he didn't and caused me to spin out leaving me nursing a damaged car and robbing me of a podium in my first race...but despite that I was very happy to finish fourth in the first of three wars of attrition. Second race I was left little space by drivers rushing by and put two wheels onto the grass just as it went from flat to a bank, this sent me across the track into a collision with whoever was beside me. I came out relatively undamaged and settled into a steady pace that once again saw me to a safe finish. A couple of entertaining moments when I was faced with a slalom made of bales left behind by the folks ahead, and one as I drove through a haze of dust a spinning car and flying bales. Last race was for me another quiet time of just keeping cool, putting in the laps and letting places come to me, and come to me they did. Another 4th place. An enjoyable time and I look forward to the next race
RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - Lecram - 08-10-2012 Qualify: I ran the first laps with race fuel, trying to set a competetive lap. I was pretty happy with a 15.2 until Gorka ducked under that time and after a quick smoke, I decided to go out, about 7 minutes to go, with fuel for only about 3 laps or so. I had Everon in front of me when I came out of pits so I backed out a little to have some free space and after my outlap, I saw my first sector was 2 tenths slower than Gorka's so I steered as precise as possible, brake as late as possible at Blanchimont and La Source and it got me 14.7. A surprise for me, actually and the 1st 14er without tow for me on this server ![]() Race 1: My start was not bad at all this time (I have a habit of ruining my starts). Some nice slipstreaming after Gorka had let me go before Eau Rouge but unfortunately, coming up to Masta, Gorka was aside of me and DJC and DC were also close. I had to let Gorka go before Masta and tried to stay as close as possible entering the chicane to not let anyone else pass but I discovered too late that DJC was also beside me and a fatal crash was born. Maybe I should have eased off but then I'd had to let DC go as well, maybe others too... Very tough call... ![]() So I was a little sour after that and had a little moment of thinking about calling it a day but I didn't. Race 2: From 10th place, I knew it would be difficult but the grid was altered and I found myself almost next to Gorka! My start was good enough again and soon Gorka and I we're doing what we we're supposed to do the first race, battling for the slipstream and the race became quite tactical. ( is that ok English?) The one in front at the last part of the lap is most likely to get over s/f first ( oh really? lol) , so I managed to change the sequence in which Gorka and I traded places along the laps and that did the trick ![]() ![]() Race 3: From the back, I figured it would be impossible, even after my victory in race 2. The start I took easy while seeing Gorka having a blistering start. I still overtook some cars and managed to avoid the mayhem, catching Martin Cooper and DJC. Martin was really friendly to not make it too hard for me so DJC was next. Having spend hours with him while testing last week, I knew I was in for some action, especially because Martin was, the way I felt it, helping DJC to get in my slipstream and damn, what a battle it was, again! Unfortunately, DJC white-posted himself as he said later after the race so with a 5 second gap to Martin Cooper who finished well deserved 2nd, I could bring the victory, while starting last, home. ![]() A special moment for me, really, on a special track with some special guys, what is there more to want? ok, pitbabes, and champagne lol ![]() Thanks all! 8) RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - 1959nikos - 08-10-2012 no pitbabes for you, wife is waiting, champagne and all D) RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - 1959nikos - 08-10-2012 ![]() I LOL that, a tintin guy, amazed!! RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - Paul_Ceglia - 08-10-2012 I want into this race with my confidence being very high. My setup was very good and I proved to myself that I could hang with the big boys on this one. Race 1 Lap one as Marcel explained in his post that incident put me in second place chasing down gorka. All I had to do was stay focused and drive smooth which I was doing until my game had a major stutter causing me to be flung into the air so withdrawing from the race. This had me very pissed off but I just took a deep breath and told myself there are two more races to go...... Race 2 I really can't remember to much......I finished 4th........I remember having a good battle with DJC ....the tron car......we traded places twice every lap. The start of the last lap I lost the rear through eau rouge hitting the hay bails losing major time and I thought that was the race but DJC must have went off somewhere because I found myself in 4th in mid lap so I sailed across the line with this one Race 3 EPIC FAIL ;D RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - gorgias1976 - 08-10-2012 1959nikos Wrote:Third race was worse, again a strong start from me, first time I welcomed reverse grid, as I was well prepared (for my standards) for Spa, but someone decided to push me off track at the start of Masta straight (stupid really as it was the end of his race too). You should open a thread in the incident area if you feel it was unnecessary/reckless action. RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - deecee52 - 08-10-2012 Qualy I had a good qually , I went out with the intention of drafting someone to get a good time, but couldn’t get near anyone to do it, I got 3rd so I was pleased . Race 1 Joined the grid and my heart sank as I had only fuelled for 5 laps and realised it was 6 , so I thought I would just draft and try and save fuel and see how it worked out , I made a good start , tippy toed through eau rouge and was just behind Marcel , DJC was tailing me close , held this position until after Malmedy when DJC pulled alongside , we all went into Masta together but DJ and Marcel touched, DJ flew off to the right so I went left and wide to give Marcel space as it looked as if he was going to spin , instead he did a very good impression of a torpedo and speared into the side of me taking us both out into the boonies . Race over no fuel worries :'( . Race 2 Made a good start and survived eau rouge , came fast round les combes to see Nikos doing an excellent impression of the space shuttle and going straight up and fortunately over the top of me , I caught Everon and had DJC and Paul C in tow , for the next couple of laps Everon , DJ and me kept swapping places , Paul wisely kept a watching brief , coming out of Masta I drafted past Everon he then picked up my draft and I think was going to try for it at Stavelot but he was carrying too much speed and went off , this made DJ and Paul back off and gave me a chance to break away , this I successfully did , there was no chance of me catching the Aliens in front so I just controlled the gap behind. Finished 3rd. Race 3 Another good start made places up and survived carnage on exit of eau rouge , settled down nicely to lap quickly but on entering Stavelot found a hay bale on the racing line , tried to avoid it but at those speeds it nearly impossible , clipped it which threw me into a spin , removed a front wheel on the fence but car was still running , decided to get back to pits , car handled quite well on 3 wheels but brakes were non existent, just how non existent I discovered when I got to La Source , I think I ended up in the next village before I could stop and turn around , drove into pits too fast couldn’t slow and overshot pitbox by about 5 pit garages , so reversed , repair forecast was 311secs , looking at the track map I saw I was 10th, so I waited and waited eventually got going only to discover I had been given a stop and go for speeding , did a lap and pitted again , found I was now in 8th, so I thought go for it as some will fall out , this they duly did and I finished a lap down but in 5th An excellent meeting once again , well done to all who turned up and big thank you to Paul and Dany for setting this up and also to Bryan for watching over us , (missed you on track mate , get a rig set up). Belgium is a great track and can give excellent and exciting racing as we saw with Marcel and Gorka , but , I think it still needs some modding , there are far too many objects that can be scattered across the track to catch out the unwary and to destroy the race , all 3 races had very high attrition rates with I think only 5 finishers in each , it would have been a great shame if the Marcel / Gorka fight had been destroyed by a distance post that had been knocked onto the track and are almost invisible to see (wonder if thats what happened to Paul C), if we cant avoid them at F3 speeds what chance would faster cars have. RE: ARI Fun Race #11 Belgium - gorgias1976 - 08-10-2012 I remember seeing you at the end of the La Source braking path. I wandered... Is he there parked waiting for someone? ;D During qualifying's first lap I reached to find a wheel lying in the middle of a curve, impossible to avoid. That was a great jump in the air.
