RE: MAK Group C just updated to v1.0 - Myles (Mr Fox) - 18-12-2018 Their website seems frozen in time - but the Group C mod from MAK just updated in Steam for me. Highlights include the CPM tyre model, chassis flex - and moooooore powerrrrrrr! RE: MAK Group C just updated to v1.0 - Jonrarit - 18-12-2018 Yup I can confirm and it feels and looks fab. The SR4L Server is already updated and running so if any of you lot want to join in the mid week fun we are on every Wednesday night at 8pm UK Time. If ever you needed an excuse to relive these monsters now you have one. Hope to see you on track Jonathan RE: MAK Group C just updated to v1.0 - Damian Baldi - 22-02-2019 Hi, first I want to say thanks for hosting the Group-C MOD (I had work on the physics of the Porsche and Mazda cars). I been joining the server since V1.0 was released. Today with the new Spa track I get a server error (Disconnection from server side). Wich version of Spa is being hosted? Don't you want to try the Paul Ricard version that was released today? It could fit the cars very well. Another question I have is, why the tyre wear is set 7x? The problem with this, is that tyres last less than needed to get the right pressure, so in other words when you have the right pressure the tyres are gone and you never know how the car really works. Could it be set normal or 2x? (same for fuel). Thanks again and I hope to meet you all on track. RE: MAK Group C just updated to v1.0 - Edvvc - 22-02-2019 Hi Damien. The midweek league which this server hosts is meant to feel like endurance racing in a regular length race hence the exaggerated tyre and fuel use. I think either Jonathan or Myles will need to defend the use of 7x tyre wear as I don't find it fun because I can't push the car. For the next season ask me what you need, I could give information to match the races length. RE: MAK Group C just updated to v1.0 - Myles (Mr Fox) - 23-02-2019 Yep. An hour long race is about as much as anyone seems to want - so low wear rates and fuel rates don’t challenge the better drivers and there isn’t much incentive to try different race strategies - everyone would be able to just race flat out and it’d be a bit like modern WEC. We’re finding that in the half-length practice races, most tracks this year can just be completed on a single tank and set of tyres - but this requires careful management at x4/x7. At x2 even the full length races would be in reach of that... The slow refuel rate (1 litre per sec) really concentrates the mind - if you lower the fuel multiplier such that a full length race is within the range of a tank, you eliminate a lot of strategy potential. The races this season have turned into fuel conservation challenges, it’s true. I’m quite enjoying that, to be honest and it means that less experienced drivers should be able to get into the mix via the hare vs tortoise conundrum. Participation is very low though. Dunno if it’s the race length, day of the week, fuel/tyre multipliers or what. I’m sure Jonathan (and I) would like to hear any technical details that could provide a ‘better’ balance for the future, Damian RE: MAK Group C just updated to v1.0 - Damian Baldi - 23-02-2019 Well, I think the idea you have is in the right direction, but maybe a bit too extreme. You are using both tyre and fuel variables in the right way. All this is like a matrix of possibilities, fuel usage, tyre wear, race lenght and speed. Maybe the lengh of the race is the key here. The best short races I experienced, are those that allow a driver to finish the race with only one pit stop if using low boost, and two stop for those who use more boost. (low boost=7 or 8 on the Porsche, and high boost=10 or even up to 12). It depends on the track, but the soft tyres (R500/Sprint) can't complete two stints, just one and a bit, while the hard ones (R600/Enduro/Yokohama) can do at least two stints. Usually all this work well in races of 1:30 hs. The Mazda can't save as much fuel as the Porsche and Sauber, so the fewest fuel usage should be calculated around this car using Mixture position "Enduro". It matches the Porsche consumption in position 8. To shortener all this to an hour race, I think 2x for fuel and tyres should be enough. It would be a middle point that allow some drivers to push and stop twice and other drivers to save and avoid an extra pit stop. It's not so easy to push for an hour without mistakes, so I think the competition is fair enough. About the MOD and the amount of drivers. There are 100 new subscribers every week, but it's dificult to find another driver in the four current public servers online. Most of the people use it offline. On the other hand, the other league in France (ODS) is running races on the week too (a race per month I think), while RaceDepartment host short club races, but you must have a premium account. All this means that it's very difficult for the people in the american continent to join, because races are too early for us. If one of the leagues host races on sunday or saturday I think it could capture all those whom can't race online on the week. I think this because you can see more than 40 drivers trying the ODS server, but only 15 or 20 had signed for the championship. RE: MAK Group C just updated to v1.0 - Myles (Mr Fox) - 23-02-2019 Thanks for that insight. Personally, i’m keen to give these cars another season as we’ve never had cars that offer a genuine range of strategies - they’ve always basically been tyre limited and that’s it. If you can conserve your tyres, you do well. If not, you have to pit and lose out. Fuel didn’t come in to it too much and many cars allowed simultaneous tyre and fuelling and the refuel rate was such that you could generally get a free set of tyres with a full tank.... It’s unfortunate that the AI can’t cope well with fuel multiples in these cars - they tend to blast off under boost and then pit early and often. The day of the week is a real challenge. Weekend races are tricky for those with families and evening races (Uk time) are a fine balance too. The strategy options and the time for refueling was the base idea from the start of this MOD, same with the tires not being simultaneous with fuel. Without that, all is about push and kill the softer tyres. The long pit stop times works for strategy and to give time for driver to take a breath (and pee) on endurance races. I understand about the complications to set date and hours, it's the most difficult part of all this I think. |
