SR4L welcomes you to the 1979 Formula 1 Season Championship

1979 Season Rules

[SPOILER]
please read some basic rules http://Here

Cars

The 1979 season will consist of 15 races that will take place once every two Sundays. (see the list of tracks below)

We have chosen 5 great cars from the 1979 Mod to battle with.
Brabham
Ferrari
Ligier
Renault
Williams

Drivers taking part in the championship will have to chose one car for the season so choose wisely. They are all subtly different.

Drivers wishing to form teams should try and keep balance in mind.
Remembering it's fun to get something out of the seasons and the more people involved throughout the grid makes a huge difference.
Your team is allowed to use two different cars but the driver must stick with his car of choice for the season.

We look forward to seeing the Team names and Livery that comes with them.

Had a good first few laps yesterday. Despite the track's graphics looking from 79 as well, it's great to drive Smile

Are we OK to use the full runoff area out of turn 3? Seems impossible not to use it, nor to ensure everyone always drives with one wheel on track there. Careful though, it's a bit slippery!

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 1979 - Round 1 – Argentina - deecee52 - 26-11-2019

The real drivers used the runoff so we should be OK , i just wish we had that kerb to high light track to grass

That's great Dave thanks for posting that Smile

Yes, this round both run off area's through Turn 3 used fully. Mid and Exit.

Agree Ed, graphics are not that great and it is fun to drive, there is going to be some great racing. The maker of the track got it right with the curbs though, you can see on the video that DC posted that in no way would you consider even touch some of these.

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 1979 - Round 1 – Argentina - Tygernoot - 27-11-2019

Antti asked this in the other thread as well... no templates to make custom skins? :/

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 1979 - Round 1 – Argentina - J-P SImard - 28-11-2019

I too would take a template and if you have a tutorial, I'm interested.

With the number of Williams that we will be, I believe that custom paints will be welcome.

Thank you

I can do skins for anyone if needed. no templates I know of

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 1979 - Round 1 – Argentina - Tygernoot - 28-11-2019

It seems these races will come down to tyre management. I don't know if anyone has tried to do a race simulation yet, but I couldn't even manage to make it to the first stop yet lol

The hard tyres are plain terrible. They don't wear, but after a few laps they start to heat up and they immediately lose all grip.

The soft tyres wear a lot, but keep more grip outside the operating window, as long as you don't overcook them too much either. After a few laps I had a few small slides and the tyres started to heat up. Over 100+ degrees they become terrible and it takes a lot of effort to cool them down again. You really have to tip-toe around the track, otherwise you will no doubt encounter a bigger slide. That is when they really light up (140+ degrees) and you just lose all grip.

So beware! It's worth putting effort in the race setup over qualifying, because a few slides and you're in the pits for new tyres Wink

I am putting Antti on the case to figure out some setup magic to make the tyres last longer :p

We have no templates, but we have the dds files you can use as a template for painting. I think I posted somewhere in the forum.
Here they are -> http://www.mediafire.com/file/iqobi15jp354i13/1979_PAINT_DDS.rar/file

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 1979 - Round 1 – Argentina - Navigator - 29-11-2019

What is your trick, guys, for the second part of the long fast right-hander?
I can't see the tarmac from the grass.......
Need to have a good line there to carry speed and to be fast all corner long, but loosing heaps of time there.
Also; setup is very difficult and makes it worse.
Any pointers?

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 1979 - Round 1 – Argentina - sdancourt - 29-11-2019

kind of intuition & fortune teller...ja ja ja, really hard to catch proper line in "Curvón del fondo" as is named there.

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 1979 - Round 1 – Argentina - Tygernoot - 29-11-2019

It’s a bit tricky but after some laps you should be able to get it right? Now that there’s some rubber on the track you can also follow the line.

I don’t get it right every time either, but worst case you scrub a bit of speed or give the steering a nudge to point the nose deeper into the corner.

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 1979 - Round 1 – Argentina - deecee52 - 29-11-2019

Get level with marshal post on right count 123 start turn in , once rubber is down there is a line to follow , its a pity the track creator didnt include the kerb that is shown there on the video it would help a lot as there is not enough contrast between track and grass colouring.

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 1979 - Round 1 – Argentina - sdancourt - 29-11-2019

Many thanks Deecee
