RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Event -Lotus Cortina at Kyalami - Edvvc - 30-12-2019 It looks like all car options are available, so you will need the cosworth engine to be competitive. When I tried the server it was raining - quite a handful! RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Event -Lotus Cortina at Kyalami - gorgias1976 - 30-12-2019 I've changed server settings, no rain needed. RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Event -Lotus Cortina at Kyalami - Tygernoot - 05-01-2020 Just did a lap to test before the event. Was wondering what's going on... smoke out of the back of the car, very hard to drive... turns out the track is wet lol RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Event -Lotus Cortina at Kyalami - gorgias1976 - 05-01-2020 That's wierd, server is set with on rain RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Event -Lotus Cortina at Kyalami - Tygernoot - 06-01-2020 Well, that was a fun event . Good to be back on track fighting over positions.Despite them being relatively slow, these cars are a real handful to drive. Every lap was a real struggle and required a lot of concentration. Race 1 I was still getting the hang of the car, but it was going fairly well until my poor Lotus was rolled over by JP . Luckily the car was still driving just as horribly as before the crash, and I was able to continue. The second race I didn't get much farther than turn 2 before being pushed onto the grass when things got a bit hectic. I had to make up 15+ seconds, and pushed that wobbly Cortina to its limits. It was fun to drive through the field though, and I was very happy to finish in 3rd position. My hands and legs were completely cramped after those 19 laps lol Looking forward to the next F1 race at this track! RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Event -Lotus Cortina at Kyalami - DJCruicky - 06-01-2020 You did well despite your offs. I could not figure out why I was losing so much speed on the straights. Not sure if I was running an incorrect tuning option upgrade or something, I'm sure I had everything turned on. People would get in my tow on the straight then get passed very easy, but if I get in tow with someone then I did not seem to gain anything, in fact in some cases I could see the car infront pulling away from me. Think I was losing 10 KPH in speed. Races were fun but. RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Event -Lotus Cortina at Kyalami - J-P SImard - 07-01-2020 Yeah guys I'm sorry for the two incidents I had in the two races. I missed my braking in the same place for 2 times to hit someone. In addition I used my tires far too quickly, I should have stayed in the stands I did nothing good. ;-) RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Event -Lotus Cortina at Kyalami - sdancourt - 07-01-2020 Can we repeat this car for the next fun event? will be great. Are all cars in the mod exactly the same, or did you accidentally select one with less power?
RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Event -Lotus Cortina at Kyalami - Keeper - 07-01-2020 DJC, you were just maxed out on gearing. I can hear it in the replay. Having 4th gear longer hurt the rest of the lap but overall was better for the speed gained on the front straight. I was expecting the 1979 race to be that day, did some laps, then noticed people on the Cortina server. I had painted a car already but not driven the race car configuration before. Managed some good runs. Most people were chewing up their tyres. I was setting my fastest laps of the race at the end (first race I nearly had fastest lap of the race on the final lap until I went wide in the last corner). It's more fun to throw the cars around but ultimately was faster to be smooth (unfortunately, 'cause I like to throw 'em around!). RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Event -Lotus Cortina at Kyalami - dylbie - 07-01-2020 I should have probably explained the power figures a bit better in the mod description, or maybe add the power to the driver name or on the icon somewhere as it's not clear. All the cars power values are historically accurate to a certain extent, however you can select all the engines from the Upgrades menu. 1965 race cars have 140bhp, except for the Team Lotus and Alan Mann cars which have 150bhp. 1966 race cars have 160bhp, except for the Team Lotus and Alan Mann cars which have 180bhp. Modern race cars have 180bhp. Cosworth FVA upgrade has 225bhp. (not actually historically accurate) The gearing sets and final drive settings are values from the FIA homologation documents from 1963/64. Speaking to John Danby he said they mainly leave the gearbox ratios alone and just change the final drive. Most of the time they use 4.44 and occasionally they use the shorter 4.7. I've been testing the car again last night, and I feel that the Cosworth FVA should be removed from the mod. Not only is it historically inaccurate, but when using the 225bhp engine it basically overpowers the chassis and the tyres. When the tyres have grip it's twisting the chassis violently and pulls the front wheel up too much, all other times it just slides too much. I tested some more with the 180bhp engine and it's a lot more controllable and actually more fun to drive. The 180bhp engine suits the car much more, and is realistic in that it's the most power you can get from the twin cam reliably. If the general opinion is to keep the FVA, I'll leave it in, but it was only included as a bit of fun, and shouldn't really be used for online racing. RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Event -Lotus Cortina at Kyalami - Tygernoot - 07-01-2020 Thanks for that info! I think we all used the 225hp engine, because if we didn't, we would have lost out to those who did :p If we use this mod again the next fun event we can all agree to use the 180hp engine instead
