RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 79 - Round 3 – South Africa– Results - Tygernoot - 13-01-2020 DC and DJ pushed me really hard in the qualifying. To my surprise I initially pulled off a 1:04.6, but still DC beat me by a few hundreds of a second. A few attempts and tiny setup changes later I was ahead by a few hundreds. It was so close, and it was really the best I could do. I didn't expect to grab pole position here at all to be honest. Guess a lot of extra rubber was laid down on the track in that final practice. With the start being on an upwards slope and only two feet to operate three pedals, I slightly rolled backwards before setting off ![]() I kept the lead, while there were some fights going on behind me in T1. DJ was giving me a run for my money, keeping up with my pace most of the time. I managed to pull a small gap of 2s several times only to lose again while being careful to lap other cars. Even some close calls at times! Unfortunately for DJ, a little too close... he was spun around while lapping a fellow competitor. From there on I had enough gap to stop pushing overly hard, and I managed to keep up the concentration to finish the race. Quite an easy win, despite a few hectic moments when lapping other cars on the tighter sections of the track. There's really not much room and these cars are very wide ![]() Looking forward to the next race. Hope Antti will have his steering wheel back in operation by then; he had to bail out last minute as his wheel wouldn't clamp to his desk anymore ![]() Ah, and please please please everyone... no chatting during the qualifying or race! RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 79 - Round 3 – South Africa– Results - lamer of fortune - 14-01-2020 Hi all, where are your reports guys? was it so boring that it is not worth hearing about it? Thats probably true in my case but I will let you know anyway. Q was the highlight of my race as I could significantly improve my PB from 1.05.9 to 1.05.3. Some of it I alos attribute to the mircle rubber that must have been applied and some daredevilism on my side. I manage to get from P11 to P9 in the last lap of the Q and that felt alright. Unfortunately it was the last positive thing I can say about my race performance as things went downhill from there. Lost 2 Positions in the first corner then kept it for a few rounds until I crashed badly through a self caused driving mistake in the attempt to use some of the Q daredevilism in T1 to gain some ground. I was left with bent steering and it was too early to pit. The car was still drivable and I could even gain one position but lost it again when my monitor informed me that it would shut down in about one minute to safe energy. Unfortunately the reset button is right behind the steeering wheel and it was difficult to keep a good line while trying to reach the button and so the hard earned position was gone again. I then sat 43 seconds in the pit to get a more drivable car. I think I moved to the end of the field with that but with this race being a 55 lap race I felt there was still some chance left and I tried to keep it clean from there. This more or less worked out and I could regain some positions passing racing buddy Ricky in the very last lap of the race and finishing on P15. Not a great result but still a rewarding experience. I really appreciate the skill factor it takes to be fast and consistent. There is still a long way to go. In the middle of the race I was confused again by some really untimely requests for pitstop. Something like 5 laps before I actually ran out of fuel. Is this caused by RF" itself based on my chosen Pit strategy or is it crew chief trying to be helpful there but then getting it wrong. Have you experienced somthing similar? It also happened to me in Brasil and in both cases I was so distracted that I made some stupid mistakes. Best Tobias RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 79 - Round 3 – South Africa– Results - bullwinkle - 14-01-2020 Yes Tobias I get the same notice of a pit stop 4 or 5 laps before intended. I just ignore it and go on to the correct lap. Qual I did a PB but so did everyone on earth so I was 14 I think I was 9th in practice. The race was boring after I had a spin on lap 2 or 3 I fell behind and had to try and catch up had some fun chasing Gary Roth and could close up on him in turns but going up the hill he would pull away again and had to slow for faster cars a cpl times. I hope I did ok letting the leaders go by. RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 79 - Round 3 – South Africa– Results - Tygernoot - 14-01-2020 Same happened to me for the pitstops. I think the track/mod estimates the fuel required, so when you set it up for let's say 40 liters at your first stop, the game might actually calculate this as 15 laps whereas you can really do 20. Just disable the request for the pitstop and do it manually when you're in the correct lap
RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 79 - Round 3 – South Africa– Results - J-P SImard - 15-01-2020 Well done Tygernoot. with a second victory and who leads the championship, congratulations! ![]() For my part, I was missing 2 or 3 tenths on a lap to be at the level of the best but I leveled off a bit and I did not know what to do to go faster. I have a lot of difficulty in slow corners and with the grip on acceleration, I'm not always able to get out of corners in controlled drift of the rear axle.. I think I did a good lap +.5 behind , but the top of the field is so tight and efficient that I qualify 6th. I had an excellent start placing myself 3rd but I was surprised by Daniel who was trying to overtake on the right. Unfortunately we touched and I finished in the wall but that racing. I left almost last with the car very damaged on the left side, a big understeer in the right turns but luckily I still had a good top speed. I really pushed like crazy for the rest of the race and I really had fun fighting with the guys who, even if they are a little slower, know exactly how to drive an F1 like professional drivers . Finally I finished 4th but with my accident I myself am surprised by the result, my race setup seemed really constant but with the damage I can't really know how fast it was. Hope to see you again on the track and thank you to the admins.
RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 79 - Round 3 – South Africa– Results - macwoj - 15-01-2020 I had a clean race this time thats all i was hoping for. I tried to stay out of trouble and see what happens. I knew from practice that one lap pace i was missing about half a second to the top guys but in the race my pace was good. The only problem in the race was my rear tires which were overheating and had to manage them and not to push too much. With other guys having some problems i drove consistently and it was good for second place which im very happy with. I am not sure why almost everyone driving Wiliams must be the fastest car i guess Wish we have to use all the cars in this championship . RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 79 - Round 3 – South Africa– Results - Keeper - 16-01-2020 Fuel calculation is off because the track maker was in the wrong car when making the track's AIW. When making an AIW, the Fuel Calculation function needs to be done in a specific car so that the game engine can adjust based on that known quantity. If you're in a different car than the default, it throws off fuel estimation for any car you drive on that track. (At least, that's how it worked in the original rFactor; I assume the same is true for rF2 as the AIW system seems to be relatively the same. I haven't actually made any track AIW for rF2 but did plenty in rF1 with the wacky track layouts I used to make for a fun banger-style league.) RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 79 - Round 3 – South Africa– Results - Daniel Tani - 18-01-2020 Rage (at myself) quit 'cause I cannot seem to setup the car to NOT oversteer wildy a few laps into the race otherwise I might have been able to hold onto third...so, umm, sorry to anyone I may have compromised during the race for my crazy antics (spinning, going off track, e.t.c), one of these days I'll learn how to setup the car properly. RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 79 - Round 3 – South Africa– Results - Bruce - 20-01-2020 I know it will make no difference to the driver standings, and very little to the team standings, but for some reason my team (Team Shunt) is showing, but I am showing as being in no team. RE: Sim Racers 4 Life – F1 79 - Round 3 – South Africa– Results - bullwinkle - 20-01-2020 I will check it Bruce |
