Track Link: 1988 F1 Mod - Adelaide (See notes below!)

Server password: SR4LAdels (on race day only)

Sunday the 6th of March

Practise session 120 minutes Start Time 17:25 GMT

Qualifying 30 minutes Start Time 19:25 GMT

Warm up 7 minutes

Race 26 Laps

One pitstop is mandatory. All 4 tyres to be changed.

*Note, speed limit at the pit lane will be 100km/h (~60mph)

Notes: We now operate a STATIC track state for consistency and fairness. If you want to practice offline, don't forget to download the RealRoad from an online session. Note that the track state may be updated during the first week of practice to make sure enough rubber is laid down.

Note also - use of CrewChief (or another spotter app of your choice) is recommended even if you have VR, TrackIR or Triples.

IMPORTANT NOTE RE TRACK LINK

The Round 9 track - Adelaide - is part of the 1988 F1 Mod - which is HUGE!

To reduce the memory footprint of the server, we have extracted just the Adelaide track and packaged it up on its own for this race. If you have the 1988 F1 Mod, you will need to download the individual track from the server - it's identical to the Mod version but is recognised as a separate entity by rf2.

If you have any problems - let us know here - I can try to upload it to Mediafire for conventional download/install.

Adelaide is a street circuit, there are a lot of road lines all over the road that makes it hard to tell what are the track limit lines and what are just normal road lines.
For this race only you may cross white lines if you wish, however please don't cross over the blue kerbs with all 4 tyres.
See video below:-

Have a crash-tactic race all Smile.

16 available pit spots. Less chance of sharing this week but it's still possible. Same technique ashttp:// last time to find out if you are sharing before the race.

ok someonme please explain how not using real road is more fair or unfair - i like the practice server having a bit of rubber but why use an arrcade like static rubber file when the sim has real road ....sorry i dont lke it but dont understanbd why this is useful at all please go back to 'full sim' with a developing rubber line based o real use

Well done, thanks for this video which makes the track limits clear for all

though in practice I've had a really hard time not bouncing over the kerbs so far. Don't think I was gaining any time in so doing at least!

I don't know what it is about this track but it's graphics optimization is TERRIBLE! It brings my 3080ti to it's knees in VR. With all graphics setting to low (usually run med-high) and super-sampling dropped to steamVR recommended minimum (usually run 200-250%) I get a jerky 40fps almost everywhere. I'll not be racing this week.

Which headset do you use? I was ok with my 2080Ti and Rift CV1 when we first loaded the track…

I do use the Oculus tray tool though and have many settings quite low.

I use a Pimax 8KX wide FOV headset. Tons of pixels to push but with 3080ti it usually does 60fps or better at settings I mentioned above. I usually can drop super samples if it struggles but this track didn't cut it with everything a minimum. I've never experienced that before.

Actually, using the fpsVR app to momitor performace it showed my CPU as struggling more than my graphics card. Maybe time to upgrade that!

Just for testing, try the same track without mirrors switched on. This car has high res mirrors that half my frame rate when I turn them on or off. Obviously you need them on in a league race, or you not see me sneak by you Big Grin.

I thought you might be onto something. I didn't think to try that. But no... still sucks. Just too much detailed surroundings I guess, that don't drop out with settings on low. There are a few sections along the way where it normalizes but then turn a corner and wham!... 40fps again. Definitely happens down long straights where the sight line is long. The track developer just needs to work on it a bit more if he even cares.

I think the 1988 F1 track pack was last touched a year or two back - so no updates likely.

It’s always been a bone of contention for me that race-day in particular gets loaded up with extra crowds etc. at most tracks.

When Cruicky raised the issue of clouds suddenly appearing if the track height reached a certain altitude, I posted something related asking why the ‘clear skies’ setting partially clouded over - and S397 basically implied that allowing the user to actually cut out graphical detail to a level that allowed their hardware to run well was a step too far away from ‘simulation’… Rolleyes

My rig (2080Ti, Rift CV1 - but only 4-core i7 4770K - released *eight* years ago!) is also CPU limited (ACC is a complete no-go area - especially in VR but also just on screens) but I have no way - or real desire just now - to fund a mobo/cpu/ram/(cooler?) upgrade.

As an aside, if you‘re ever racing against AI cars, you might find some heavier on CPU than others. There’s a setting buried within mods which determines how often to update the AI physics. Mod developers might over egg this (I’ve turned it down one click in the GTPC BMW M1 SR4L_LE mod) and burn CPU time. There’s a subsidiary option that lets the AI run a lower CPU physics update rate - but to increase it temporarily if the AI are turning a corner more sharply than a certain yaw rate. It all adds up to an ability to either create really clunky Ai or to bring your rig to a crawlWink

RE: F1 Legends Round 9 Race Day Info. (Adelaide - 1988 F1) - Ricknau - 13-03-2022

Just now seeing your post... Interesting info. You know a lot more about the programing than me! I have a top notch GPU which really helps with the 8kx. But like you my CPU is pretty outdated. It's an i5 7600k. It's fast but only 4 cores and 4 total possible threads. But I thought I've read that most games (including rF2) don't utilize multiple threads. I too have thought about upgrading but my fear is that I drop $1000 and see little or no gain. And I resent the idea of resorting to an expensive brute-force gamble for a problem that conscientious developers can improve on.

On a more positive note, I have to say that I've been fairly satisfied with the graphics performance of these cars at most of the tracks we've been running. Somehow Adelaide was just a distant outlier. I'm back to my norm at Mosport. Actually a little better than norm! Let's hear it for grassy fields and distant tree lines! Big Grin

Rick that CPU has enormous overclocking potential , you may wish to investigate this , as long as you have good cooling and quality memory you should do no harm to your system , most mobo,s have a facility that does it for you .

Yeah I bought the "k" model for that reason. It's base rating is 3.8Ghz but I'm running it a 4.5Ghz which is its listed "max turbo speed". And luckily (or maybe I knew it had the feature) my MSI mobo did come with a user friendly BIOS GUI for dummies. I simply clicked the "turbo" button and it jacked it up to the 4.5Ghz. Big Grin If there's any more to be eeked out of it I wouldn't know how to do it. I doubt there's too much more to be had anyway.

Rick you dont have to spend megabucks to upgrade , your cpu is worth quite a bit on Ebay , sell that and buy a used i7 , check your mobo manual to see what the max cpu it will support
i5 7600k are selling £85 i7 7700k buying £160
