RE: SR4L-FOX-TEST home server - Myles (Mr Fox) - 18-06-2023 So, with one eye on the sustainability of SR4Ls finances, we’re testing an elderly home server and would appreciate any feedback of issues etc. you might discover. The server should appear on the matchmaker under the name of SR4L-FOX-TEST and is currently running the BMWs at Nemona (same combo as for this Wednesday). As it is running on my home broadband, please do not attempt to download content directly from this server - grab it from the ‘official’ SR4L servers or from links/the Workshop. There is currently no LiveRacers timing - at best I will try to run the free version that only shows the top three times per track. Enjoy! I was very surprised, it worked very well. I tested pings, it was always less than 50ms. Tried 5 AI cars and pings were still normal. The wait between sessions was longer but. Lot of Syncing stuff going on. Video of me vers 5 AI No idea if things go laggy if your wife puts Netflix's on mid race ha

I was very surprised, it worked very well.I’ve not worked through all the config stuff to align it with what we’re used to (other than to reduce the grid wait time to 15 secs from 32 default). The time between sessions will still be default and could be shaved. Interestingly, the LiveRacers seems to be recording AI times too - I’ll have to have a dig to see if this is configurable. RE: SR4L-FOX-TEST home server - bullwinkle - 19-06-2023 server seems to be down RE: SR4L-FOX-TEST home server - Myles (Mr Fox) - 19-06-2023 bullwinkle, post: 32618, member: 333 Wrote:server seems to be downJust been down for 30 mins or so. Back up now. RE: SR4L-FOX-TEST home server - DJCruicky - 19-06-2023 Tried with 10 AI. Still good. If so, I better check everything is in place to use your tool…. RE: SR4L-FOX-TEST home server - DJCruicky - 20-06-2023 Can not see why not. RE: SR4L-FOX-TEST home server - Myles (Mr Fox) - 20-06-2023 Right - we’ll try that then. I’ll put up some posts later. So, the PC has been upgraded to a whopping 8GB of RAM. With rf2 running, it is using more than 2GB in total - so the upgrade can only be helping as the hard drives are not SSDs and so paging is painful. I’ve tried two 15xAI races - both were absolutely ‘fine’. Not perfect - in both races in the first lap or so the entire field lurched slightly once or twice but not drastically. For the rest of the races it was fine with no obvious glitches. In the first race, the pc was still settling itself down after the reboot and the cpu was being pretty heavily used by system processes - it would be easy to max out for a fraction of a second and get a glitch. I did check the cpu usage towards the end of my second race (after crashing!) and it was only around 50-60%. Given we’re not likely to use AI, this is pretty promising as the overhead of real drivers should be less. RE: SR4L-FOX-TEST home server - Myles (Mr Fox) - 22-06-2023 That seemed to go well - albeit with only a max of five on track. Pings were low, CPU usage on track was low (spiked a bit on session change, but to be expected). Cruicky didn’t even get session-booted! I *did* have one strange blip just at the end of one session (Qualy?) - I did disconnect a few seconds before the session but had no problems reconnecting. For the final race, I chucked a couple of AI in for good measure and it still worked well (although having tested with 15AI earlier in the week, this wasn’t a huge surprise). Might give it another go next week with more resource-hungry cars/track. For Wednesdays at least, it appears to be a viable alternative/backup to the paid for servers. Other than for a bit more testing, I don’t want to run it too much longer while we still have them (and I’d prefer we found some funding to keep them running) as it does cost a few quid to feed it electricity. Positive test though! RE: SR4L-FOX-TEST home server - DJCruicky - 22-06-2023 Yes very positive. I never saw anything bad apart from my driving . Yes it was odd I never got booted like I do with other servers at end of sessions. RE: SR4L-FOX-TEST home server - Myles (Mr Fox) - 05-07-2023 OK, so the Test server is currently running the last official S397 version of Silverstone with the FISI 2012 (i.e. F1-style cars - free content managed by S397, originally developed by ISI). This Wednesday on Svr-3 (the usual Wednesday server) will be the Radicals at Zandvoort, next wednesday will be Chief Wiggum's 70s-style Sportscars (probably '71 as that year has four cars to choose from) at Silverstone '88.
