Nordschleife (North Loop) Report

For most members it was the biggest challenge to date in their online racing careers. With the possibility of some 1500 corners and 1 hour and 20 minutes of driving ahead most were feeling the tension in the countdown to the start. The opening laps were outstanding with some driver going straight into their race plan and others racing for position, it made for some interesting opening couple of laps.
Those who finished were exhausted and elated, those who didn't... well lets say disappointing may not even come close to the right word.
In the end there can only be one winner but I think if you finished this one you had a very similar feeling. Well done to all that did finish, phenomenal effort and the triple points were well earned.
Marcel took top honours, seemingly unchallenged in the end but that doesn't just happen as he puts in incredible preparation into each event and given his bad start to the season it's a great example of persistence pays off. Well done Marcel and well done to all who finished.
Drive of the day for mine was Paul Swire, finding time to practice is never easy so this was always going to be a challenge for him. Crossing the finish line was a great reward for a lot of work behind the scenes here at SR4L.

Well done to all that competed, well done to all that finished.

RE: SR4L F2 Fun Race League Rnd 8 Snetterton - gorgias1976 - 23-04-2013

I'm still in disagreement with the way the winged spark has been introduced in this league when we already started without it and some went for the Eve in the belief the winged spark would remain unallowed.

I'm not against the winged spark from racing, I'm against that spark drivers can decide wether to use it or not in their benefit depending on the track. That is a big disadvantage to EVE drivers. It already was in Lime Rock, it will be more noticeable here in Snetterton and will probably be in Croft (medals for this league can already start te be awarded then).

I don't know if next season we will be racing back the F2s or if we will make the jump to the F1s, but I'd find more fair for everyone to keep the configuration he/she decides to start with till the end. So as an example, if you start with a winged car, remain with it the whole season so at some tracks you'll have some advantage, at others you won't and at others you'll be equal to the other cars. The same will happen to the ones who go for a non winged car (even if it had the chance to be winged).

Going back to bussiness.
Let's see how this new 60's update work. I'm glad the new tire degradation comes to play so constant locking at brakings can be tire harming (Though as we drive just a few laps between pitstops in our 20min races it won't be decissive at all, at Nordschleife it could have been really interesenting to have)

Note: since sunday midnight hotlaps at snetterton have stopped being registered.

RE: SR4L F2 Fun Race League Rnd 8 Snetterton - gorgias1976 - 23-04-2013

Really different track surface here. Coming from bumpy Nordschleife and start driving here is quite a difference, as if track was plain flat.

well it is, its a former WWII airport.

RE: SR4L F2 Fun Race League Rnd 8 Snetterton - giorgetto giaguaro - 23-04-2013

Very nice track to drive with a couple of heart attack curves..
I'm trying to find out a comfortable setup to avoid mistakes. At this point of the season every point is important. ;D
We're having a very nice and balanced battle on the midfield of general standing with Everon, Jason, J.Cook, Niko, Mel, Vittorio and others..

I'm loving the evolving of the league. Smile

RE: SR4L F2 Fun Race League Rnd 8 Snetterton - ~IsR~ Jason - 23-04-2013

The really big question, of course, is why, at the age of 42, does Giorgio's description of me as a midfield racer bother me a little? Will I ever grow up? Heh Heh. Roll on 50 years old. By then I should be about 25 years old in maturity!!

RE: SR4L F2 Fun Race League Rnd 8 Snetterton - giorgetto giaguaro - 23-04-2013

Lol!
Before you become an alien you have to pass at the midfielder rank of the SR4L organogram... ;D

Im sure when I grow up I will be better :Smile

RE: SR4L F2 Fun Race League Rnd 8 Snetterton - ~IsR~ Jason - 23-04-2013

Well, I'm a long way from being 'alien', thats for sure. And the 'Organogram' sounds painful and frightening. So, ok Giorgio, looks like you were right! But, if I'm midfield, I'm surely Platini!!!

Soooo, guys, are we using the new Historic content for league races now?

RE: SR4L F2 Fun Race League Rnd 8 Snetterton - Fergy - 23-04-2013

Good question about the Historic's, we'll have an answer tonight.

Will get it on a server tonight for some testing. :o

RE: SR4L F2 Fun Race League Rnd 8 Snetterton - ~IsR~ Jason - 23-04-2013

Thanks everyone.

Also, I didn't realise 'Organogram' was a posh word for Chart! I thought Giorgio was suggesting some sort of invasive surgical procedure! Reminds me of Woody Allens orgasmatron from 'Sleeper'!

The reason it was not available at the start of the season is it would not show up in the vmod. A couple of builds later and it worked. It was never not available because it was an advantage. Once it became available we added it as an option to drive and even after testing it at Watkins Glen with DJC which I thought was a pretty neutral track there didn't seem to make much difference although there clearly is now. We made it available for everyone to use and during this season you can swap cars, that will change in the future F1 series.
Nothing stopping you from jumping in the winged spark Gorka, you won't take you long to adjust. Me personally I'm sticking with the non winged as I started simply because I like. The choice is yours Wink

RE: SR4L F2 Fun Race League Rnd 8 Snetterton - deecee52 - 23-04-2013

Gorka there are 7 races left in the championship , 3 of those tracks will be dominated by the EVe,s as the faster top end will come into play and the Spark users will just eat your dust also the odds are the EVEs will be more than competitive at Sebring so your champioship hopes are not over yet .

The dark side is tempting me.... don't know, don't know
(I had no idea cars could be swapped, otherwise I wouldn't have had this suffering races at Lime Rock and Palm Beach where the Eve was really wild in behaivour at low speed corners)

there's a top speed difference, indeed. But in my quick top speed test at Brianza it showed to be a tiny bit less than 2 km/h just before braking for Curva Grande, I don't expect a significant difference in laptime.

But this Brianza race will be the full circuit with the banking and more striaghts , you will be arriving at Curve Grande a lot faster and you will be holding your top end for more than 1/2 a lap

RE: SR4L F2 Fun Race League Rnd 8 Snetterton - gorgias1976 - 23-04-2013

Not actually, as in the bankings you can't reach the top speed due to forces, it can't be reached until the very end of the main straight.

I've tested the winged spark at snetterton, using just same EVE setup, did a 1.58.4 half a second away from my fastest 1.58.9 I reached with the Eve on sunday night. But what's most important, it's so easy to drive on the limit and easy to correct mistakes....
Anyway, I'll keep loyal to my principles and keep driving the Eve till the end of the season.

Let's see how fast newer version historics time in this track.

ok, you've persuaded me, Ill go with the B Big Grin

RE: SR4L F2 Fun Race League Rnd 8 Snetterton - vittorio - 23-04-2013

I always thought there was an agreement that either selecting the F2B or F2 for all races. But reading again the "Winged spark" discussion, there wasn't. Anyway, my stubbornness forces me to stick with the F2 (and I don't know why). Smile

You won't regret your decission Wink.

Turn 1-2 makes for a complete different approach with the F2B, the rest of the curves is more or less the same as wingless versions, just adjusting braking/throttle spots. Also, at most of the curves you can start braking with full brake pressure.
