RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - Lecram - 26-01-2014 Great racing tonight 8) Well done all (finishers) Drop your race-reports here if you will
RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - Lecram - 26-01-2014 Both races ended in tears for me... I had a nice qualify, improving my pb and on my last attempt I was even a bit faster but messed it up later that lap. Then 1st race 1st lap, I just messed it up, going a little too wide and crashed out, luckily not taking anyone with me.. 2nd race I took it easy first laps, passed some drivers untill I got up the back of John Cook. I remembered him saying in practise he wouldn't give up easy especially in race 2 so I made my pitstop then with 5 laps to go. ![]() Stopping early had worked, after some laps I was chasing Hector for 3rd position but when I came close, he touched the guardrail and spun, no way for me to evade that.. Np mate, these things happen. Still
RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - Fergy - 26-01-2014 I tried the second race. It looks like the ping will be fine, around 200 or so. On my second lap my browser popped up on the screen, a problem I've been meaning to fix on this laptop for some time which ended my race. Fixed now ![]() Great to see a few new faces and still good numbers turning up. Well done finishers ![]() My quick fix set up
RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - edwin - 27-01-2014 I want to start with saying sorry once again, started chatting while some people where still driving after i had finished race one.........i'm still ashamed of myself :-[ Quali was good for me, don't know exactly what my place on the grid was but the time is set was close to pb soo i reconned it was the best i could do. Race 1: Started "frosty" and was aiming for bringing the car home in one piece. First few laps Cosimo and Jesus where in front of me and i couldn't come closer to them but on the other hand they didn't pull away from me. Lap 2 or 3 after Stavelot i saw Cosimo flying around and after that Jesus pulled away from me. In the mean time Vittorio pulled up to my back and i knew he was faster than me but i gave him a fight for as much i was worth for. i think one lap later i made a little mistake at le CarriƩre and came with my left wheels on the green stuff : so my speed on the next straight wasn't high enough and Vittorio managed to pull thru. Pitted lap 5 and the team was good for me giving me a 47 sec. stop. Mel being faster also got me in the second to last lap. But i managed to bring the car home in 6th place and was so excited about that that i started chatting immediately after taking the checkered. once more sorry Giorgio and all the others who where still driving.Race 2: Somehow imho the reversed 10 didn't work out well. NO Offence Marcel. But finished 6th and being on front row together with John Cook...gave me somehow the shivers (not because of John but because having all fast people behind me). But start went well and i didn't make foolisch mistakes. after lap 1 i was 8th. As the race unfolded i had again a nice fight with Cosimo and Vittorio. Cos was faster ....and so was Vittorio to be honest, but after pitting Vitto got a drive thru i think because lap5 he did his stop and lap 6 i saw him driving thru the pitlane once again. Last lap Vittorio tried to take my possition at Blanchimont but he almost made a mistake trying to overtake me. But he let me live (thank you for that ) and i finished 5th after Cosimo.Great evening for me. Well done all. Thanks once again SR4L Great job done Marcel and DJ....we couldn't have done it without you...... :-* whoops 8) Thanks RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - Hedlund - 27-01-2014 After a few less successful races, my main objective tonight was to bring the car home in both races without incidents. But at the same time this was one of races that I really wanted to win. I found a really stable setup that felt comfortable and when I did a few 3:20's earlier this week, I thought that I wouldn't be able to go much faster. But with the super fast Lewis Yaussy lapping low 20's I was forced to push the limits further and we were both doing mid 19's... QUALIFY A good start for me when I managed to get below 3:20 on my first attempt. Improved it to 3:19.6 towards the end of quali. Although it was 1 tenths slower than my pb in practice session, I was really happy. This is the first time I do not set pb in official quali I think. However, it was good enough for pole but it was very uncertain. Second spot on the grid would have been fine, but pole is better, so I was really pleased with that. RACE 1 My start was good enough to hold Lewis behind me through Eau Rouge. I have no idea what happened behind but I got the impression that it was a clean start. I had no idea who was behind Lewis but it was obvious that he was the main threat to me. I managed to hold a gap that was big enough for him to not get a tow on me. On the second lap he managed to do that though, and he overtook me on the long straight. I decided to stay behind him, at least for a while. He was really fast and I was forced to give it all to keep up with him. I think it was towards the end of lap 4 when he made a mistake at Blanchimont and went off track into the hill... He took off and I was really scared that he was going to land on my head, but luckily he didn't. I was hoping for a mistake sooner or later because I saw him sliding and going wide into the grass a few times, and it happened. Now I was in first place and when I went for my pitstop next lap, I saw DJ coming into the pit and I assumed he was 2nd. I did not see Marcel or Gorka at all so probably they was out of the race (and that was the case). My second stint was much slower. I was taking no risks, nor did DJ in 2nd. Won the race ![]() RACE 2 10th on the grid for the reversed race, but a few drivers wanted to start from the back and Robert had left, so 6th it was. After Eau Rouge, it was only Cookie, Hectari and DJ in front of me, I think. So 4th place already and I decided to stay cool. I really wanted to finish this race because I've had too many accidents lately. Stayed behind DJ for a while to see what he was up to. On second lap Cookie let us through and on third lap Hectari did the same thing. Maybe a little too kind of you guys (but thanks ). I got past DJ the same lap with help from the slipstreaming. I was already happy with 2nd place but I had the chance to close in on him in the championship, and slipstreaming is a quite safe way to overtake... So I decided to try to get away, and I was successful. He obviously didn't wanted to take any risks Pitstop at the end of lap 5 again and everything went fine without troubles... I was trying to drive as safe as possible the final laps and the track really felt deserted because I didn't lap anyone and I didn't see anyone in my mirrors and no one was repairing in the pits. I had the feeling that not many drivers had survived, once again. Finished 1st again ![]() I love this track and it was a pleasure to race with you guys. Two clean races. I had not expected to win both races so I'm really happy. This was one of the classic tracks that I really wanted to win at. Thanks for hosting! RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - Hectari - 27-01-2014 Well i've not written a race report since the first round and after many ups and downs it's time for another(mainly to apologise for some mayhem a la Hectari) Practice leading up to this round left me scratching my head trying to develop my setup and not quite managing to get into the groove and string good laps together, though still hanging out behind the really fast guys in terms of quali pace. Official practice I mainly ran with race fuel to get used to the feel of the heavier car and decided that I would run a bit more fuel to start and take a bit more overall than I needed. Kept tweaking my setup and finally settled on a race set. Quali - Really struggled to even complete an outlap until deep into the session, kept crashing but eventually posted a time to put me about 8th I think, managed to improve on this and up to 7th but not feeling too confident. Race 1 - Got a decent start and into 6th by eau rouge, just following along trying to keep it tidy, lost Marcel on lap 1 then Gorka crashed on lap 2 I think, up to 4th. DJ was pulling away from me and I had Robert not far behind. I made a mistake at Masta, at the 2nd apex I clipped the fencepost with my rear right ever so slightly, this sent me into a spin on the exit and I totally lost my bearings, tried to lock my wheels and hoped for the best not knowing which way Robert would pass. Unfortunately he clipped me as he tried to squeeze by and suffered heavy damage, very sorry for this. I had no damage and continued on after losing a couple places. Someone ahead of me crashed out, possibly Rick and I jumped another place and was hoping to catch John at some point. Pitted after 5 laps I think and John went for another lap and temporarily took the lead with DJ and Rik pitting in front of me. Had a decent stop and outlap went smoothly, heading down the start straight next time around I could see John start to move off from his pit and managed to cross the bridge just in front of him. He wasn't far off me and looked like it would be a good fight for 3rd over the last few laps but into Les Combes he did a 'Brian Redman' and he was out. Up until that point in the race i'd been lapping very nervously, scared of making any mistake and since I found myself comfortably in 3rd I decided to take it very easy and drive it home. Race 2 - Decent start and straight into 3rd from 4th, at the top of Eau Rouge Edwin yielded for me thanks! John wasn't too far ahead but I had DJ and Rik chasing me down! Managed to catch John with a good exit from Stavelot and made the pass and hoped to create a gap. Nope. DJ and Rik got straight by and DJ was on my tail, kept him there without him getting a passing opportunity until lap2 after Masta, he made 'mastaful' exit and ran up behind me for the pass so I let him complete the pass quickly and safely, Rik was coming fast too so I yielded to him so I could continue on and battle the track instead of faster drivers, who would only encourage me to crash. Oh if only I had thought about that later... after my pitstop I was spooked to read Marcel was only a few seconds behind me in 4th, I wondered if maybe he had still to stop... silly me for thinking this. He was closing the gap and I pushed on, hoping to hold him off and take another podium but he was too quick and with just over a lap to go he was right up behind me into Blanchimont and I bottled it, just trying to be too fast but it ended furiously, hit the armco and got thrown back across the track and straight into marcel. So sorry, I really wish i'd not tried to fight so hard and just driven it home safe like race1. Watched the replay to see what i'd done and my pedal telemetry looks really stupid, for some reason I panicked and mashed both the throttle and the brake in the turn, no wonder I lost it. Heavily damaged I tried to nurse it home over the last lap but it was way too dangerous, crashed again and called it quits.Well after the race I found out about windowed mode and input lag, just a few days ago I switched to run this way, very convenient for doing things outside of rf2, but 40ms input lag?! Yikes! I had thought the server tonight was a bit choppy, with a couple of freezes too and the usual join lag but thought it was just because of the heavy traffic. Now I realise why I was struggling so much. Just a while ago I went back on the server to do some laps with full screen mode. First laps, very patchy rubber, seemed to take ages to fill out real road. Numerous freezes too, some for 5 seconds plus.. Anyway the first timed lap I put in a pb, 21.6 but got dq'd for exiting pits under red. Stayed in the server for a while more, just lapping, felt good and I could really push, managed some more 21s and was on for a 20 but blew the last sector. I reckon my input lag is about 40ms with full screen mode, either running 120fps or sometimes 180fps which I think brings it slightly lower, so running with approx 80ms feels absolutely horrible compared and is very tough going, surprised I managed as well as I did. If I hadn't switched back and tried it again i'd probably just have continued on using windowed mode, unbelievable it can cause so much input lag, is this something that ISI are aware of and will they be able to fix it? Alt-tab is so unreliable, sometimes it's fine, sometimes it crashes rf2. I had a look at the replay to see what had happened to Lewis, my word you were lucky Rik, he was so close to landing on you at Blanchimont!!! Also I wondered what had happened to Gorka, seems that he hit the marbles at Malmedy. Really ISI?! Marbles from bias-ply?!!! I hadn't noticed them on the track at all until I took a look at his crash but there they are just sitting there off the racing line. Crazy stuff. RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - gorgias1976 - 27-01-2014 Well practice is everything and that is something I'm not having these last months. This has paid off in crashing in both races. :'( Qualy Couldn't find the time to work on a quick and stable setup and 5 minutes to qualy I was still doing changes to the car. Only reached to find a quick enough one that brought me to 3:20.X in but alongside it was unstable. Race 1 Start was clean, the leading pack going safe through Eau Reuge. As turns went by I saw Marcel struggle a little at a couple of turns, probably the smokie wheels from the car ahead didn't help at all. That helped me to catch his slipstream and overtake him. Later I saw at the HUD David being behind me and I thought he somehow had also overtaken Marcel too. It was lap 3 and even though I was feeling quite confident, not nervous at all but on the same time battling my own car (David was 6 sec behind and the guys in front were fighting for position, anything could happen to them). But when car is not stable in this track sooner or later you will crash and that is what happened in lap 4. :-[ Race 2 Started carefully from the back. I was well on the left avoiding unnecesary trouble but the car on my right didn't leave any room and headed to turn 1 using the whole track and give me a little push. I was able not to lose the car but unlucky to have some slight damage on the right front. Approaching the end of the lap I lost the car and hit the barrier with the rear side just enought to being thrown to the barbed wired barriers destroying the car. Race over. But finished 6th and being on front row together with John Cook...gave me somehow the shivers (not because of John but because having all fast people behind me). It didn't work out well because so many drivers retired. We did not even had 10 finishers. Nature of the track But watching the replay I can't see any accidents in the start, it looks clean. For other tracks, like Putnam Park, I think we won't see as many unexpected top 10 finishers (and with "unexpected", I mean slower drivers that want to be put at the back for Race 2). DJ also suggested that we should first move the drivers that want to start from the back, then reverse top 10. I agree. Btw, there is nothing wrong with a few slower drivers in the front row for Race 2 if that was what you meant (?). It's a different thing to have all the slower drivers in front and all the faster drivers at the back. From that point of view, it is much safer now
RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - edwin - 27-01-2014 Hedlund Wrote:edwin Wrote:Somehow imho the reversed 10 didn't work out well. NO Offence Marcel. But finished 6th and being on front row together with John Cook...gave me somehow the shivers (not because of John but because having all fast people behind me). Yeah i now realise that it is the nature of this track. As said no offence ment to Marcel but i never ever started on front row. Being there gave me the shivers because i don't want to ruin enybodys race and being upfront has that risk more in it than being somewhere in the midfield. Having said this, at the end it all worked out fine for me. No damage done to enybody and had a real good time. I think DJ's idea could be the thing to go for. RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - hardtohandle - 27-01-2014 I had high hopes of putting in some half decent results at Spa, after my bad result at Nordschleiffe I was looking to lift myself up to perhaps to around the Mel Fisk level even on the timesheet and elevate my standing slightly from the Nordschlieffe experience. I had gotten up to 325's in practice which for me was pretty respectable, I was crashing too much but find once events start I gain better concentration and can keep it on track far better, I would hardly say I was brimming with confidence it was gonna be tough or us all but I felt I could make it to end and hopefully get a decent position if I had no big accidents. When I started sim racing with rf2 some time ago, public server races would often go to hell and it is easy to allow negative thoughts into your head when everything that can go wrong does go wrong, I grew out of that a long time ago and now when everything is turning to hell I look at it positively as all part of the fun and challenge of the game and I am much the better driver for it, but yesterday I was not able to summons such positivity. A few hours before the Spa race I had another Lola race I had practiced for quite a lot totally ruined after 2 mins due to bugs in the game, and for the first time in a long time had a pretty negative feeling towards driving RF2, not because of my own mistakes or bad luck or other drivers, but because of ISI, I was pissed off with RF2 and pissed off with ISI for putting this build out which so clearly doesn't work. An awful lot of time wasted preparing for races that go to hell because the game does not work anywhere near properly, it's demoralising sometimes and little fun to be gained. I think in SR4L you may have gotten off lightly with the collision detection bug in the current build, because with your mod the cars inevitably have more space between them on track than with most other mods, the problem only manifests itself when cars are running very close. Kind of makes it tricky to race when cars are wrecking into fresh air. So I arrived in the Spa race in bad mind set which is very unusual, I missed practice because I did not want to play the game, I had 14 mins of Q to post a time and failed to do even that, ended up running on full fuel load for first time in race because I had missed practice, the extra weight caught me out a bit and I wrecked out of both races within a few laps. If I could have gotten back to pits I would have but it was impossible, too much damage. A bad day for me on RF or sure. I think simracing is 30% skill and 70% mental approach and yesterday I was not in the mood for it which is not typical for me. The event was superbly arranged, the patch made by DJ was a step ahead, my frustration with the games faults was yesterday and is a thing of the past already for me, gonna stick with the mod which I do find very difficult (and enjoyable) and I would like to do the Monza 66 and Longford races with you guys and hopefully get a half decent result before the season is done. Many thanks to organisers. RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - Hectari - 27-01-2014 Race 1 start: ![]() Race 1 Rik takes the lead:
RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - 1959nikos - 27-01-2014 Great videos! I really like the b/w RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - Hectari - 27-01-2014 i'll make some more later and try to find some good moments mentioned in the reports. Would it be best to have these in another thread since they're pretty bandwidth heavy?(well, can keep them all under 5mb, but can upload up to 10mb)
RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - Hedlund - 27-01-2014 Very nice! Didn't realise how close that was before watching the replay. I slowed down to see where he was going to fall down... Best thing to do was to slam the throttle. If I had slowed down more, my race could have been over.Nice GIFs. How did you create them? Very nice and quick way to show certain moments from the race in the race report. Please make more ![]() Btw, your replay fidelity seem to be much better than mine. For me, Lewis car is lagging and his crash looks really strange. Most opponents are jumping around and the cars that are far away doesn't have proper engine sounds. RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - Lecram - 27-01-2014 That is a very near miss ;D I wonder if Lewis knew there were 2 races :-\ RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - cosimo - 27-01-2014 This was my best and worst race :-) Let's start. == Qualify == My PB was 3.28.5. Right before the Q session, I made very slight adjustments to the setup, reducing camber and shortening a bit the 5th gear. Went out quite early and got a 3.29. 15 minutes from the end I was 13th or so. 4-5 minutes to end I decided to go out again, and try the last lap. Got a low 3.27, more than 1s below my PB, and about 11th on the grid. Was quite happy at this point, praying that no collisions would happen during the first lap. == Race 1 == Nothing of the sort happened. Everything went as smooth as it could. I was quickly up to 9th or 8th IIRC. I felt confident on this track and I was among the fastest of my usual "pack". On lap 2 or 3 I was coming up close to a car I don't remember, maybe Jesus? with Edwin and Vittorio behind a few seconds. I got very close quite quickly and I was deciding where to overtake. After Stavelot, before the fast right hander a bump sent me to the right side of the track and I hit the 200m sign, flying out and losing two wheels on impact. The end. Infinite sadness. Fade to black. Continued watching Edwin and Vittorio fight, thinking I could have been in that battle and maybe even win it. == Race 2 == I was determined to not repeat the same mistake. Started pretty much at the back of the grid. By lap 2 or 3 I was already 9th, chasing Edwin and Vittorio. Strangely this time I didn't feel the need to slow down to avoid crashes. I was lapping very close to my PB, at least on my best laps. Then I got close to Edwin. Remembering the disaster of R1, I didn't want to get too close too fast. Edwin had a solid sector 1, and I couldn't get closer to him there, but I could easily get 1s or more on him in sector 2. I managed to exit faster from Carriere and the following straight I overtook him. That was an amazing moment of tension and excitement for me. End of lap 4 I saw several cars stopped in pits, so I decided to continue and stop at next lap. After the start straight I checked the standings, and I was 2nd :-) After another lap and 51s for pit stop, I managed to exit before Vittorio, so I actually gained 2 positions, and I was now 5th. I think from there to end of the race someone's car stopped because of no fuel left, so 4th was my finish position. Very nice race, and one of my best placements. I think the F312 skin helped :-) RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - Hectari - 28-01-2014 Hedlund Wrote:Very nice! Gifcam, it opens as an always on top window(can do full screen too), size and position it, even move it around while recording it just records whatever is visible on your screen in that window. Just run rf2 in windowed mode, for the 2 I made I was using 800x600 resolution. The bigger the res you use the shorter the gif you will have to make unless you have somewhere you can upload bigger files or resize it with Gifcam or Photoshop. It's pretty simple to operate, select 16fps from the 'Rec' drop down(max fps you can display on a browser), hit 'Rec' and 'Stop' and it will create a timeline of images that you can view in 'Edit', also clicking 'Frame' while not recording will capture an individual frame and put it in the 'Edit' timeline. If you want to clear the timeline, click the 'Rec' drop-down and click 'New' to start over. When viewing the timeline of frames right-click for options to delete frames etc., I tend to just delete from a frame to the start or end to cut around either side of what I want. The site will fill you in on everything anyway, it's an awesome tool! Link to Gifcam info page: http://blog.bahraniapps.com/?page_id=21 Link to 3.1 download(on page above anyway): http://www.bahraniapps.com/apps/gifcam/gifcam.php Also I use photoshop to edit, resize and change properties, usually just to change the filesize, some of them can be huge. About replay fidelity, yeah i'm suffering the same with some of the cars that are furthest away from me, stupid engine sounds, bouncing about and strange pedal telemetry. Though with the front facing view on your car I was shaking the mouse a little bit for effect Head movement might also be working on the on board camera i'm not sure, but I do have it enabled. Fidelity set to highest value, seems not bad

RE: SR4L F1 League Race Reports Rnd 10 Belgium - Ricknau - 01-02-2014 In race two I had a good race going. Was running about P6 when I signaled for a pit stop at the end of lap 5. When I pulled into the pits there were 2 or 3 cars there but no arrow marking my box. All I could do is drive through and go around for another lap. I laid off the gas as much as possible (to not be dangerous) but couldn't quite make it all the way around. Out of gas. End of race. ![]() How could this be? I signaled for the stop as I ran down to Stavelot. That's where I signaled during qualy to test it and that worked. I saw an arrow marking my spot at end of that lap. Someone suggested I may have run over the pit entrance line which would cancel the request. Looking at my replay I can see that I came very close but the only cameras I seem to be able to use don't show definitely if I did or didn't touch the line. Is there server data to explain why my pit stop was canceled? Could it have been an issue of not enough boxes to go around? Maybe my space was already occupied? I'd kind of like to know. It was a very disappointing end to one of my best (partial) races. P.S. Jesus, sorry for squeezing you on race 2 lap 1 after Eau Rouge. After recovering from a near miss with the wall I didn't know you were there. Glad you reacted to save us both. |
