RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Lola T280 Season - Round 1 - 1960's Brianza - gorgias1976 - 16-02-2015

Qualifying
--------------
Really busy out there, trying to find some slipstreams on the first laps it was then when I realised you couldn't get close enough to a car without losing front grip at curves (mainly noticeable at curva grande). So I then decided to look for clean laps without traffic. Lucky to get Pole Position as I though someone could get in the 22s

Race1
--------
I was quite worried about starting on the left side where the left tires are on the unrrubered part of the track. I Had a good reaction time but soon I had to deal with that asymetric grip and David could overtake me. Checked to the right and couldn't see Paul Ceglia. At that moment it was when I realised my FFB was off so the slightlest move I made to the wheel resulted in a massive turning. I found myself on the grass trying to control the car while I was using my right hand to press the FFB reset button. I was very lucky not to crash and get safely to Curva Grande even though losing 4 places.
The next laps I was able to catch some slipstreams and gain some places to second place.
I took my pitstop at lap 9 and the next lap I saw David Coyne (who was leader at the moment) coming out of the pits right behind me.
The remaining 11 laps lasted a life, having David at less than 2 seconds behind and not being able to build any gap but finally being able to finish in first position, a very nice start to the championship.

Race2
--------
Starting in 10th place I went carefully to avoid a mayhem at curva grande. Approaching Lesmo1 side by side with another car I felt a big hit from behind being sent to the wall and getting some body damage. The damage didn't affect the car's balance so I decided not to repair at pitstop. It took some effect on top speed (or at least that was the sensation I had). Several laps to the end I was in 4th place approaching John Cook but I lost the rear when trying to outbrake him on parabolica. I took a walk through the grass and lost an extra place there, finally ending in 5th place.

Qually

I didnt want pole here as its hard to see the flag man , I was in a battle with Paul for 2nd and 3rd , I clinched 2nd by a tiny margin , it was a close top 3 .

Race 1

Got a good start , could see I was slowly pulling in front of Gorka then all of a sudden he dropped away and I could see he was on the grass , pushed hard through Curve Grande and Lesmo's and was 3 secs clear of DJ , decided to keep pushing as I didnt want DJ anywhere near my draft , had a big slide going into Curve Grande on lap 3 and decided to cool it as I was punishing the tyres , slowly edged away from DJ and pitted on I think lap 8 for 26 secs , came out a saw Gorka in front so gave chase , the gap seesawed between 1.8 and 2 secs but I couldnt get close enough to pick up his draft , I took time out of him through Curve Grande and Lesmo1 , but he was faster through Lesmo 2 and parabolica , great racing but I want to shoot Gorka's pitcrew .

Race 2

Got a good start but was boxed in , couldnt get a clear path so stayed in the pack , nervously went through Curve Grande waiting for the crashing to start but everyone was OK , approached Lesmo 1 still surrounded by cars , was concentrating too much on watching cars ahead I missed my braking point and hit Gorka (sorry G my fault) this was the start of my Hatred of Lesmo1.
I pulled over and let the field pass then rejoined , passed a couple of cars then caught Nikos , going into Lesmo 1 I was close and lining him up for the exit when his back end let go and he went across my front end, I couldnt avoid contact so that was lesmo1 2 - DC 0 .
Got going again caught up to Stephen got a run on him through Curve Grande and into Lesmo1 , we both braked at the same time but I was carrying more speed and hit him hard ( sry Stephen my fault entirely) lesmo 1 3 – DC 0 ,
Pulled over and let the field past , I thought Stephen had repassed me I didnt realise I had pushed him over the barrier thats why he wasnt in my mirrors , car felt funny so did my pitstop for 28 secs and then drove for a finish , was pleased to see my teammate made a lot better job of this race than me and got the win , well done Christof .

A great nights racing everyone , this is going to be a close championship .

Well Done and big thanks to Paul /Nikos / Gorka / Bullwinkle for organising this , great job guys

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Lola T280 Season - Round 1 - 1960's Brianza - 1959nikos - 16-02-2015

My practice times all week were a nightmare, I did a couple sub 1:25s but that was all, All I could do usually with much sweat were 1:25s, 1:26s.

In race day it was worse, my practice times were 1:27s, at last I managed 1:25 at quali.
As rest of the field was obviously much faster than this, I decided to stay low and carefull.
I was ok, but suddenly at the main straight I saw a car crushing vertically to the left barrier jumping back to the straight, an alarm situation as I was flat out.
Suddenly it looked I could pass by without harm but Tim in front of me was more intimidated than me so he slowed down. Trying to avoid Tim I tried to swerve right but I touched grass and from this moment I was the uncontrolable thing trying to stay straight.
I think I took Eddy out there and perhaps more and I thought I took myself out too as I touched barrier a lot.
To my surprise car was definately drivable after this so there was no point fixing it at pit stop, almost all well then, I could go on smuggly in my last place :Smile.

Then disaster came hard. Watching the leaders at the progress bar coming quickly almost ready to lap me, I crashed head on to the bridge :o (some people leave their bridges anywhere, this is unnaceptable :Smile).
So, car was undrivable, had to fix damage, I went into pits and read: 318secs pit

I sat up, went down to get a beer from the fridge, came up and sat down again, drank the beer, sat up, went down and chatted with wife, came up and sat down with still lots of time to spare while watching rest of field coming around again and again.
16th place was not so bad at all after this.

Second race I was very lucky, I came trough two huge pile ups withought damage (sorry for mistake Dave) and I ended up at a cool 10th place, not bad at all!!

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Lola T280 Season - Round 1 - 1960's Brianza - Ricknau - 16-02-2015

Race 1 went well for me. Near PB in qualy put me 14th on grid but only a little more than a second behind pole time. Got thru a few crashes and problems for people in front of me to get as high as 9th. Cycled back a little after pitting but it all came back once everybody got their pit stops done. Raced alone for almost the whole race. While this can get boring it sure increases one's chance of finishing the race. (See race 2 report) Inherited 9th without passing anyone and finished there. Tim was closing on me in the last few laps and might of had a chance for an overtake on the last lap. It meant I had to give it all I had but then he suddenly dropped back a second or two on lap 20 and I could be more careful and preserve my P9. Ironically for Tim... he gave me the excellent setup I was running! Thanks Tim! Smile

Race 2. Though I finished race one at P9, watching the board for race 2 it looked like I was listed as P18 on the grid. I knew that's not where I was supposed to be but didn't feel like commenting. Being at the front with all the fast guys behind me is never too appealing to me. But then when I went to the grid, low and behold, I'm in the middle of the front row! I suddenly realize I cannot see the flagman. As I'm glancing left the horn sounds and I'm glad I can hear it over the engines sounds. But I'm off my mental peak and a second later when the horn goes long I pop the clutch and do nothing but spin the motor. I cycled up the gears all the way to 4th but it would not bite. Finally got it rolling (after what seemed like minutes) but lost 6 or 7 places. Apologies to everybody and way to go to everybody for avoiding my road block!

I'm still fairly near the front and begin racing. I get bumped a couple of times from the rear in the first 2 laps (simple racing incidents) and lose a couple of positions each time but keep going. Finallly on lap 3 approaching Curva Grande someone makes a run on me on the outside. I give them room which puts me in the middle of the track. Then, just at the turn in, someone pokes their nose inside of me. Wow, 3 wide through Curva Grande!? That's never a good bet. Going into that curve as the meat in the midlle of a 180mph sandwich, I ended up the loser. Now in P last, in an agitated mental state and the entire field several seconds ahead of me, I blow Lesmos 1 really bad (not on purpose ;D ) and my race ends.

=========
On the lighter side, I must say that these Lolas are a blast to drive. Good choice by the decision makers. Thanks to Nikos and Tim and everyone who has helpled me come up to speed in this fun car.

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Lola T280 Season - Round 1 - 1960's Brianza - c.pucher - 16-02-2015

Didn't know what to expect from this weekend to be honest. Jumped on the server on thursday for a practice session and fortunately my teammate deecee was there for my rescue Smile I tried to get a decent setup and failed pretty good at it, so he was so nice to share his. And what a difference that made. Was easily in the 1:24s with his setup but still struggled to get a 1:23 and seeing the times he put down I thought I wouldn't be able to fight with the fastest guys. Aim was around a 5th place finish coming into the race.

With a more rubbered in track and slight adjustment to the setup (moving brake-bias more to front) I was able to do a high 1:23 in the practice yesterday and knew there were a few more tenths in for me. Managed a 1:23.5 in the Quali and was very happy with it Smile

Race 1:
Had a good start and managed to be on 3rd position after the first lap. Went wide at Curva Grande a couple of laps later and lost 3rd position to Gorka. After that I had a quite good run, not remembering any big mistake and I really found my line through Curva Grande during the race. Pitted after 11 laps in the same lap as DJC, stop took me 26 secs and I got out behind him with more or less the same gap as before the pit-stop. Was happy with 4th place at this point and just tried to do consistent good laps to keep pressure on DJC while not pushing too much myself. I got a bit closer from lap to lap making most ground in Curva Grande while losing a bit in sectors 2 and 3. Got a good run out of Lesmo 2 in lap 17 and using the slipstream was able to pass him going into Parabolica. He was close behind me for much of the rest of the race, keeping pressure on me but then dropped off a bit in the second to last lap which made my last lap a lot easier Smile Great 3rd place finish!

Race 2:
Got an awesome start and was beside the front row in no time and got probably a bit carried away. Was alongside Michael (Holzapfel) running down the straight when we got to the point where the oval and non-oval part separates. I ran out of space and went to the left to not get into the grass which I managed more or less. Unfortunately there wasn't quite enough space to make this move so I touched Michael in the process which sent him to the left touching Tim (I think) as we were three-wide at that time. Glad they both managed to keep their cars on track, approaching Curva Grande I was on the inside alongside Tim on the outside and I think he backed out of it and gave me the corner to avoid trouble. So I was in first place after Curva Grande and all went well.
Have to say though, the move on Michael, while it "worked", was really a stupid one and if him and/or Tim wouldn't have manged to control their cars this could have ended in disaster for probably the whole field. I really should have lifted the gas and join in behind Michael, so sorry for that guys /:

Okay so in first place I got a bit of breathing space coming out of Lesmo2 and thought I just have do manage consistent fast laps and avoid any big error and this race could be won. Well, didn't take long ... braking for Parabolica, while I think I wasn't late because I was really cautious to not overshoot it I lost the car while braking went onto the grass on the inside and didn't mange to turn the car before hitting the gravel pit. Fortunately I didn't get too far into the gravel pit and could rejoin after the first group of cars passed by. Think Gorka had to aviod me a bit but apart from that the rejoin was fine. Found myself in 9th position after that, thinking I missed a chance for a race win but knew there was still a good result in the race for me, also because I was right behind Gorka. Had good laps after that and made some passes, mostly going into Parabolica using slipstream to get alongside and outbrake the other driver then as I was really confident under braking. Gorka pitting at lap 8 put me into 3rd place and I pitted one or two laps later, again in the same lap as DJC. Pit-stop took 25s and a got out around two seconds behind DJC in fith place. Was really suprised after a couple of laps to find myself in second place with DJC still in sight. Like in the first race I tried to do some good laps without risking the second place and managed to close the gap little by little. Most of this was down to the awesome performance of the car going through Curva Grande, so big thanks to my teammate for the beautiful setup :-* As the gap was down to about 0,5s I enjoyed slipstream going down the straight approaching Parabolica managed to stay close behind him through the corner and have a run at him at the start/finish straight. Managed to get my car alongside him and move by on the inside going into Curva Grande.
After that he had once a nice run at me also down the start/finish straight and I think he could have made a move but he probably didn't want to risk both our races and choosed to stay behind not forcing me into a decision. He lost the car a bit going through Curva Grande in this instance, probably because of reduced downforce or because I slowed down a bit more than he expected, this gave me enough room for the rest of the race and I manged to bring home the first place! Very very happy ;D ;D ;D

Really an awesome start to the new season, great to see so many new and old faces =) Big thanks to all (Paul, Nikos, Gorka, Bullwinkle) who made it happen, awesome guys!

Looking forward to Sebring now, love that track!

And speacial thanks to Nikos for the awesome skin and my teammate for the great setup Big Grin

Hi

New Player in a new league!

Qualifying:

Qualifying went well. For some reason I was faster on Race day than in practice. Set a good banker lap at the beginning of the session. 2nd run did not better it. Started appropriately mid field.

Race1:

Started well and managed to move up a bit. I think there was a bit of rubbing turn 2, and ended up between Jerry and Andi. Outbraked myself at Parabolica on lap 2 letting Jerry by, however I was able to out accelerate past Jerry again on the straight, and started to pass Andi from the draft, both cars in 5th gear 178 mph, when Andi moved to the right(not sure why as there was plenty of room) and I get punted off course and down the blanked off banking lane of the old track?? Can't go forward or backward without a DQ. Race done.

Race 2: Started at the back. Reached turn 2 just as all havoc breaks loose. Although not being able to avoid some crashing cars, I was able to get through. I was keeping up when Dave came up to pass me, he said he misjudged the braking and I was bumped head on into the end of the guard rail. After that the car was slower and steering not feeling right so I made a pit stop for a 125 second repair and tires. On exiting the pits and getting back into track, all of sudden someone was swerving to miss me and some how managed to come back and collect my car for another big off. Got back on and was following the other car until someone else had an altercation with the two us before turn two which caused another off again and hit again by someone who could not avoid our spinning cars.

Carried on after that, but car was 10-15 kmph slower on the straights and 2-3 seconds slower on the lap time to finish 11th.

I had hoped for a better showing.

Thanks to Nikos and Paul and anyone else who helped to get me in the race. Nikos was a great help.

For,whomever does the League website access, I still cannot get access to the League website to add a profile. Don't know why, but I get an access denied reply when I try to log-in?

That was me, maybe it had been better if you stayed on the right side of the track until you where up to speed. You must have had a blue flag and mirrors is also something to keep notice on. But you went to the left side of track immediately leaving me no room and i had to turn to right to avoid hitting you. Came in the grass tho and lost control putting me back on track and hitting you.

At that moment i was very pissed but now a day later.....well. Sorry would have been nice to say tho.

I'm sorry i ran you of the track as a passenger of my own car.

Better next time, we're good.

Cheers Edwin

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Lola T280 Season - Round 1 - 1960's Brianza - jerry 33 - 16-02-2015

hey guys..
qually went as I expected got lucky 13th spot - what could go wrong from there.. :o
race 1, I didn't have a real good race setup and/or talent but benefiting from some misfortunes of other's I managed a 11th place finish, with teammate Tim getting the 10th spot.. a good race! ;D
race 2, started from the 16TH! spot on the grid?? but - this actually helped cause all Get-out happened in lesmo 1 and I managed to benefit again and by lap 10 was running in 6th, with tim in 5th. coming out of lesmo 2 - I catch tim avoiding a car spinning - cool, he made it thru. just as I came thru the spun out car started to drift more to exactly were I was going to avoid him - toooooooooooooooooooo late - no - no - I did miss him, but not the 70 or so trees I went thru and the fence I jumped. then, I couldn't get back on the track surface.. I kept cussing in Italian, but the locals just laughed.. and that was that, I had to click out of the race. tim had a good finish, so he has to carry us again...
then, "i think" I made my biggest mistake, at least I "think" I did. while in the lobby I seen Edwin leave the game, with racecar being stored in the garage. I thought, oh heck, just go take a shower and I did the same thing. I believe, that took away any points for the second race, right? I should have stayed in the lobby and not leave the game cause I would have still been listed for points.. I am stating this to learn for myself and for others for the rest of the season..
thanks to paul, nikos, gorka and tim for all they did for this race!
on to sebring...........

I agree with you Edwin. Having reviewed the replay more closely, I was over a little further than, and a little sooner than I needed to be. I was trying to leave space to the left, for passing to the left. Closing speed there is high and I probably should have looked twice rather than once. Very sorry, I do apologize. What surprised me the most was getting hit from the right side when I thought I was leaving space to the left. I thought I was being careful enough, but will try to be more careful in future.

Stephen

No problem Stephen, as said before in the heat of the moment (isn't that a song :Smile) i was angry. But there is no reason to be angry, just a racing accident which happened.

We're cool and it's good to have you in the league Wink

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Lola T280 Season - Round 1 - 1960's Brianza - donrandom - 17-02-2015

It is a pleasure to race with you guys!
My first race weekend, of course, didn't went accordingly to plan. I completely messed up Q and started from the last rows. Consequently, in R1 I had to avoid loads of mayhem during lap 1. I managed to slalom through the mess quite well, only to get scrubbed off the track from behind. Well, limping back to the pits took me ages, and repairing did cost me 2 laps.
R2 went much better. I had a great start overtaking 4 cars. That earned me a top 10 position which I kept until the chequered flag. Top 10 was my goal for my first race as a sr4l league rookie. So, I am quite satisfied.
Looking forward to the next race!!

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Lola T280 Season - Round 1 - 1960's Brianza - argl - 17-02-2015

First race in a new league!

First of all, an honour to race with you guys. For me, it did not really go according to THE PLAN (not hitting anyone and finish). I had a so-so- qualifying with 3 thenths above my personal best, earning me 8th place or so. Had a decent start, keeping away from any trouble. But on the 2nd lap on the main straight just after the finish line, I got tapped from behind by someone, causing me to spin off into turn one. No damage done, but I had to let the whole field get past before I could continue. I soldiered on, but there was no way for me to catch up with the peloton any more. 13th place. Well, at tleast I survived. A quick look at the replay showed that the car which tipped me lost it as well, spinning off through the barriers and quite a long way onto the banking(!). The punishment fitted the crime I guess ;D

Race 2 saw me starting at the back, toe-tipping through t1 and t2, and arriving at lesmo 1 with a huge crowd trying to go through 3-wide. Consequently, one of those cars lost it, I braked and the guy behind me had no time to react an shoved me on top of the whole pile of cars. Luckily, no damage, so after some head shaking, we all coiuld conitinue. A few good laps followed where I even managed to overtake some cars. On lap 8 or so, I approached t1 at full speed. A car was already stationary on the left side of the track, so I cautiously reduced some speed, only to watch as one car slowly rolled out of the woods, across the track, right into my line. Well, this time some damage was actually done (built like tanks, those cars!), so I limped back to the pits and killed about 3 minutes while the cars wa repaired. With 2 laps down, motivation was somewhat lacking, but no further incidents and I finished again outside the top 10.

Sorry to Edwin, I tipped you lightly on the entry to parabolica at one time, but I suppose it was harmless since you saved it and touched the inside barrier only lightly.

All in all a bit disappointing, but thats (sim)racing. Very much looking forward to Sebring!

The one inside was me, sorry about that, It felt that I was much faster when I caught you both also seemed to me that there was enough room for all of us. I am sorry that you paid for that, it is usually me Tongue

My report: I think this track owes me something. It is the second race that I feel really fast here and I think I deserve better >Sad

Qualy: I did my PB, below 1:23:8, what put me 6 or 7th in the grid.

First race: I was keeping good pace and good position.
I think I was 8th before my pit stop:
During the 25 seconds it lasted I saw two racers packs approaching, 6 or 7 racers in first pack and another 4 racers or so in the second one.
It was clear to me that I was going to get out of the pit in the middle: Wrong! :o
My crew finished in 25 seconds but then I stalled the car and lost another 20 or more... Sad so I was 12th after pitting.
I tried as hard as I could but I just managed to do some additional mistakes.

Second race: Started almost at the end of the grid, regained some positions before turn 1...after the incident, first lap, first turn I was last >Sad several seconds behind. Couldn't believe it.
I drove like mad from then on, pace between 1:24 and 1:25, I even did one 1:23:9, my car felt steady and fast. I managed to pass a couple of drivers but missed my braking point while trying to pass Ed.
Then, I decided to do my pit stop, with better results this time.

Thanks all, see you soon.

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Lola T280 Season - Round 1 - 1960's Brianza - gorgias1976 - 17-02-2015

I'm glad everything went considerably well (except for normal car crashes, something associated to this track). No CTDs (except for Paul's blue screen problems), reversed grid for race2 thanks to Paul's effort while dealing with his computer.
I read P. Ceglia was a bit surprised about seing himself in such a good start position for race2.
21:01:52 (e.t. 26s) Paul Ceglia: i not at he back
21:01:56 (e.t. 30.8s) Paul Ceglia: ??
He probably forgot we are only reversing the first 10 drivers and not the whole the grid as in the old days. Nice to have you back home Paul, we expect to see you more often on track.
And a good welcome to all the new drivers who came and raced with great sportmanship and determination.

Sebring to come, beware of that race start (cars at odd grid positions will start on the green side of track). As I prepare the announcement post I'll also add pit exit information to avoid any confusion on that track.

Thats what I noticed too.
Maybe we uped damage for next races? It is a bit unnatural as is.

Just saying.

RE: Sim Racers 4 Life - Lola T280 Season - Round 1 - 1960's Brianza - gorgias1976 - 17-02-2015

I also think we should try higher damage values. A big hit to the wall should at least remove the front spoilers. I'll try to test that too.
