Sim Racers 4 Life - T290 Season - Round 5 - Mosport - Reports
#1
Great attendance with some incidents, Rob and Rik Hedlund didnt make it due to lag problems, Nauman too.

This time we managed ourselves as Paul couldnt make it, we sure missed reverse grid.

I had an easy race, didnt do any mistakes, but my results were not good, last at both races. You guys are getting faster and faster, Im getting much better too but not up to your level guys and gals. Well, I do enjoy it immensely anyway Big Grin

Place your reports here people lets see how you did.

Oh and Harri, how did you manage that beautifull upside down pirrouette at 2nd race?

Just got home. Apologies to all for not doing the reverse grid.

Sounds like you had a good race and concerned about the Hedlund's problems. Will see if I can see anything in the server logs that could explain it.

I will surely watch the replay.

I had to let you catch up a little Nikos Big Grin

Great night for me again, downside was my teamie and his brother where having problems and decided to leave :'(

Back in 2013 when i wanted to re-enter simracing i was looking at the software i was going to use. I watched numerous vids on the interweb and this one stuck:

[youtube]UW5ObmZF7B8[/youtube]

That vid made me decide to go for rF2 and thing i thought back then was this guy is racing soooo fast i will never be able to give him a fight.
Well today i could ;D, dear Gorka you're still a lot faster then me but i was able to fight you today and it was a blast for me. In the end it's your own fault by posting that vid back then Wink

So my report:

Quali:
After Rikard and Robert leaving i was in 6th which was way better then i expected.

Race 1:

Had not the best start i ever made and Sharkei (sorry if written wrong) had a very good start but made a mistake in t3, so Dan and i where able to overtake him and we where good. But in the braking zone for the hairpin Dan lost it and took me of track with him (no problem Dan was a clean race accident you where passenger from your own vehicle).
I had to let many people go before i could enter the track in a save way again and was 16th at the time, and then the most entertaining race of my rF2 career began.
In the next laps i overtook some people and Dan (Bayford) let me overtake him because he felt guilty for the accident in the hairpin. Dan and i where behind Rick Nauman who was in 10th and had a good pace.
The more close i came up behind Rick tho i saw him swerving all over the place and saw his ping up to 600 which obviously was the reason for his swerving. So i decided to go for my pitstop early and see if i could overtake Rick that way.
Me and Dan made our pitstop at the end of lap 9 and my stop was way better than Dan's, i guessed he had some damage.
Lap 11 Mel came out pit right in front of me, he was in 8th spot, and we had a nice and clean battle for several laps (really enjoyed that Mel Wink) at one point i managed to overtake him and next lap i overtook Harri which gave me 6th.
I even managed to close the gap to Cookie in 5th but in the last two laps we had a nice battle and a nearly photo finish which John won. Well done mate.
Very very happy with the result.

Race 2:

Good start giving me 4th place.
Gorka messed up in the hairpin and Ramon and i squeezed thru giving us second and third spot.
Then my battle began with Gorka, the one i never would have held possible 3 years ago. Big Grin
Gorka made some mistakes and i could focus on battling with Ramon who made no mistake none what so ever and i obviously wasn't fast enough to overtake.
So i decided to do the same trick again like i did first race and made an early pitstop, trying to gain some time there and overtake Ramon. That didn't work out tho because i made some mistake in my out lap and instead of being in front of Ramon or at least in his mirror but NOOO i was way back and had Andi in my mirror......Andi in my mirror big time. :o
Had a nice battle with Andi but managed to stay in front and bring back my Lola in 4th spot.

Had a nice night and i know that this result only was possible because Paul wasn't in ........and Deecee.......and Hedlunds :Smile but nevertheless.........

Thanks all.

P.S. for those wondering how my first race in real life as engineer was.....well:

Race one was mweh .......12th
But
Race two we finished 3rd.

All in all a day to remember.

I was as surprised as glad to have you giving me such a great battle, defending really well and making no mistakes in it. I even had to go to the pits really early as I saw I would end up behind you all race.

My report.

Qualifying
------------
I don't know why my setup for this race worked better as laps went by, being around the 4th lap when the car started performing its best. This also happened during this session. At first I was trying to get the time on the first laps but just couldn't. Finally, with more rubber on track I went for a 4 lap stint and in the 4th lap a super time came, giving me pole position. I was really surprised about it as it didn't feel as a good lap compared to others I had done.

Race 1
--------
With the problems Rik and Robert were having I was feeling more comfortable having to start without them on my tail (sad for them, let's hope problems are gone for the next events).
I had a good start and drove carefully for the first laps until I had to go to do my pitstop at the end of lap 8. On the outlap I reached Rik Naumann having the bad luck that he was having a bit of a lag (well it wasn't actually lag, it was as if server was missing some of his feedback). Right at the hairpin it seemed as if he had missed it and gone a little wide on the grass but suddenly his car reappeared right in front on me. Just could do nothing to avoid him and spun losing a big bunch of seconds (no one to blame, this things happen).
So the next lap I found David coming out of pits right in front of me. The next 11 laps it was a hard and sweatty battle trying to find a way past David but it was really difficult having to deal with the understeer you get behind a car in the fast corners of this track. And the couple of times I was able to get his draft on the straight he defended well on the inside (he was really fast there even when I was carrying only 8 degress on the rear wing)
So finally the race ended and I finished 2nd, a good result but not as good as I would have liked.

Race 2
--------
I really screwed the first 3 laps. No excuses, I was really out of focus and made 3 mistakes that costed me 4 places.
Being so much out of concentration I decided to go for a very early pitstop and reset my mind during the 25 seconds of tire change and refuel.
I went for 16 consecutive qualifying laps for the rest of the race that, at least, were good enough for regaining 2nd place.

Sounds like you guys did just fine without me (!?). I will watch the replay later when Paul uploads them. Luckily I had quite a big gap to DJ in the championship so if he managed to take the lead now it won't be by many points. Hopefully I can strike back at Nords already, I usually feel very comfortable there.

Well done Ed.. you stepped up and did just what was needed and scored very important points for our team!

I did a 2hr Endurance race at Bathurst in Automobilista yesterday.
Completed 46 laps. Qualied 15th finished 9th.

Yeah, wrong race Smile

T290/Mosport wasn't gelling for me. I WILL return for the race at the mighty Nordschleife. Hopefully I can make some points back.
When in doubt, pass out.

Niko, you need to get out of the comfort zone and into the uncomfotable zone to get quicker.
You need to work on a setup that is quite oversteery and practice, practice, practice until you start getting used to it. Nevermind losing control, being slow, whatever...., just practice so your brain starts reacting automatically to control the car.
Then, you can go back to your usual setups and make them a bit more radical as they will feel very cheese by then. Then you will realise you start getting faster and faster.

Just don't tell Paul this. Wink

Well, leaving Mosport with a smile Smile

QUALI – I did a personal best, which earned me position 5 on the grid. Due the "Double Hedlund Disaster" I was promoted to P3.

RACE 1 – After a decent start, I managed to keep P3 until the chequered flag, just in front of my team mate Andi. That was my first podium in a league race since returning to sim racing last autumn.

RACE 2 – Although we didn't have a reversed grid this time, R2 was a bit more challenging. In T1 (lap 1) I only just managed to stay in front of Andi and we even touched slightly which costed Andi a place or two. After Gorka went wide in the hair pin, I even earned P2. However, I had a strong Edwin in my mirrors. He went for an early pitstop (in lap 8 or 9), so I decided to follow him a lap later in order to stay ahead. That actually worked fine, but meanwhile Gorka was miles ahead again after he did an even earlier stop. So, again I crossed the finish line in P3.

All in all, Mosport was a great success for both the team – RACE LOLA RACE is now 2nd in the team championship – and for me personally – securing my first podiums since ages. Of course I am aware that I somehow inherited the podium places because of the Hedlund absences. I hope you guys can solve the problem until Nordschleife!! It would have been much more tricky for me if David Coyne would have been around. We always race each other pretty hard. I also hope to see him and all the other SR4L guys around at the Green Hell in 2 weeks time.

That was very bad luck for you getting caught up in some ones else's bad internet connection Gorka. I thought something must have happened to you as when I come out of pit lane I looked to see what car was behind me and it was you. But it did make for a great battle you trying to get passed me. https://youtu.be/tUGASMSkYkY?t=13m10s
There is something that can be done on the server by Paul and that is to reduce the collision threshold to a lower number. What it is if your ping is higher than this number it turns off collisions for that laggy car. You still see him but you can not hit him. The default is 0.7 seconds , maybe 0.4, or even 0.3 seconds would be better?
Code:
"Collision Fade Thresh":0.7,
"Collision Fade Thresh#":"Collision impacts are reduced to zero at this latency",
This would not help Rik and Robs problem, can not say what that could be :-\.

Well my problem actually seem to be some kind of predator mode lol, as when it happens I can drive through any car without it affecting me.. but I will sure send my poor opponents flying!

Now we are at least 3 guys at isiforums (4 with my brother) who has experienced this bug or whatever it is.
