What are we doing about numbers. Are we as usual using the positions from last season?

Man Cookie seems to have fallen of the map. Despite my posts and PM to him he hasn't been heard from since our little back-and-forth about COTA several days ago. We need to make a car decision but it may come down to race day.

This is to register DJC and Harri Mac as "Ooooot Ma Way!", driving opportunities will be very limited for me (Harri) this season. He/we will be driving the BT44b. We've both been super busy the last 3 months and have had no time for games. No driving, no practice, nothing, nada.

I've done some tweaking to the team paint scheme, and finally have one I am happy with.
![]() This is Edwin's car, with a close up of the flags and name. ![]() Here is the inspiration for the Team name and colours. ![]() For our younger members, and anyone else who was wondering, the 1976 World Drivers Champion, James Hunt was known as "Hunt the Shunt". Oh yea, almost forgot this (I did actually, I had to edit the post to add it). Here is the link for the file http://Edwin_alt.dds

Watching the final picture. That's how rFactor2 should look like. I think sometimes it is way too colorful compared to reality.

I think sometimes it is way too colorful compared to reality.I notice that with a lot of video games/sims. Interestingly it is something I notice with photography. I use old 35mm cameras without flash units (some do not even have flash sync). When there is bright sunlight the colours look like that, but most of the time (in England anyway) the sun is not that bright and pictures look like the bottom one. The colours are not that bright on the skin, the game seems to make them brighter (lighter?). ![]() Although my colours are a little brighter than the car above. I actually used the Netherlands flag to make the stripes. ![]() That said the sun does sometimes shine even in England. I guess with these pictures being 40 odd years old the colours on some may have faded or otherwise.

The 'cartoony' look in rF2 skins (or in any sim really) is caused by using oversaturated and overbright (and overdark) colous in the texture. You need to give the graphics lighting/shading engine room to breathe. In rF2's current engine in particular where skins are Albedo maps, they recommend white, for example, to be about 85% white, which is about 216,216,216, though in their example they actually use 200,200,200 for white. Same goes for colours and blacks -- stay well clear of values 0 or 255 in any channel (other than alpha of course). In their example they desaturate colours by 10% from what you would expect to see. I usually go 20% (and even with that, my purple-and-yellow McLaren appears still a bit brighter than I had hoped, but it's tolerable).
Alpha is still important, and even though it seems I can't make something completely matte with it in rF2, it still does affect the amount of reflection -- particularly at acute angles. So if you want something less shiny you still can make that portion black in the Alpha channel, and similarly something particularly reflective can be made white. Most rF2 skins have the Alpha portions nearly white to begin with (or no Alpha at all which is treated as white), so dropping that down considerably can help make things look more like operational racing cars and not polished museum pieces. As for photographs, well, they can't always be trusted. Look at the Marlboro McLaren for example. In photographs it looks red, but in reality -- as in game -- it was bright orange. The same is true for the Marlboro Team Penske in IndyCars, and STP colours in IndyCar and NASCAR. They were all day-glo orange, though in photographs and on television they looked red. I think it was mainly for the sake of television video, as proper red would "bleed" while the orange would appear red without the bleeding. I have a photo I shot in 1988 of a Granatelli STP IndyCar being loaded onto a truck with a red-and-white striped tent in the background. The car and tent look to have the same shade of red, but in reality the car was orange. |
