Wed night Fun Races (2021)

Think Jon was a magnet to the moveable tyre walls. He loved smashing through them o_O Big Grin.
CU all you in next one.
Yes, a bit of a small turnout - but there have now been a large number of different drivers recorded on the server (again) so it looks as if it’s a popular mod. Jonathan and I chatted last night and agree it can make for good racing - quite forgiving (so accessible to all skill levels), robust, reasonable draft, ‘just right’ tyres that give steadier drivers a chance towards the end of the race…

As usual, I’ll try to load the next venue before Saturday.

Provisional track loaded - Loch Drummond Long. Should be a 6 lap race with laptimes around 1:30-1:35

Seems to be a nice match for the mazdas - plenty of room to edge up on people, plenty of encouragement to overtake due to poor braking or racing lines….

yupp, was very good again. Thank you.

I still have the 'Connection Lost' after end of sessions, so before the event I moved my Userdata folder out and let rFactor2 make another one . I had to re setup up all my controls and graphics etc. The reason I was late.

I thought maybe that worked as no Connection Lost., but before race 3 it happened.
So, I guess that did not fix it.

By the way there is a new build for the server out today http://1126.

Cracking track - I thought it worked very well with these cars and was quite instructional in that it rewarded patience and smoothness.

I had technical nightmares - after an abortive attempt to try out ACC (necessitating updating my graphics drivers from old-faithful to the latest - and then reverting when I decided (for the Nth time) that ACC is a dead end for older kit - I had two major problems. Firstly, the rf2 window would ‘capture’ the mouse - making it problematic to switch focus to the SR4L remote server for admin - and in doing so, the perspective within the car changed weirdly for the first two races (1st one I bailed from as it felt too odd) - it was a bit like driving a big-rig sized MX5 and made it very hard to judge distances etc.

I think we’ll need to make the jump to 1126 today - we nearly lost Petrolhead and new joiner Rob last night as their clients had auto-updated (but no one else’s had). I’ll have a quick chat with the rest of the team in the usual thread and get it done this afternoon if there are no objections.

Back to Zandvoort National (THE SHORT LAYOUT!!!!) for Wednesday December 8th.

We ran this track with the Merc 190e's and it's quite an action-packed short-circuit layout. *Probably* going to go for 7 laps (c. 10 mins 30 secs) instead of 6 laps (9 minutes) - but will decide nearer the time!

Wow, cracking turnout - twenty-something drivers have posted times and a peak of twelve started the races. I’m not sure where they all came from as there were many new names - but (with the exception of just one or two game-wrecking hooligans who aren’t…) - you’re all welcome!

These cars continue to provide some great, close racing. There were a number of (inevitable given the size of the pack) cars spun around - but in general, they’re stable enough to survive a bit of jostling.

Right - we’ll stick with them - probably into the New Year as they’ll be pretty good for anyone who is new to the sim world - or just a little tired/time-deprived to take on something more challenging over the holiday period…

Where next, I wonder? The short-track version of Zandvoort worked well and 9 minute races kept the pace up. Next track should be up and running Friday-ish as usual.Big Grin

Something I like with the cars they are easy to get the backend back. I was knocked about a few times and got the car pointing straight with a quick flick of the wheel.

Are all of your Email *and* Content settings checked in your profile? E-mail address up to date (not using the old one still)?

(edit) - I've just updated your profile so that they are all (I think) checked. Email address is the outlook one.

Right - we'll give Laguna Seca DeLux v1.3 Laser Scanned a go - please let me know of any issues (other than personal taste, technical ability etc. Wink)

There seem to be more boxes to tick for emails than I’d expect!

Yep - so back to this…

I’ve not had much of a chance to test this version of the track - but it seems to get good reports. I’m particularly interested in feedback relating to any fps issues - I’m not sure we’ll get another mega turnout this week, but I don’t want to run a version of the track that chugs…

Oh crikey - a significant number of times posted already - 2nd week running… - I wonder where they’ve heard about us? Looking good for a full grid again though at this rate Cool

We had one or two minor problems last week - if anyone sees any dubious behaviour (wrecking and so on), please pm me with details. Same goes during races - use whisper mode if you need to alert me to behaviour that contravenes our standards.

Not a bad turnout - close to double figures at one point, I think?

We’ll *probably* race them again next week as they do seem to be something of an ‘arrive and drive’ car with minimal setup changes needed…

…but what next? I suspect it might be time for something a bit quicker after the recent Datsuns, MX5s, Nissans etc…..?

Right - I'm struggling to find MX5-friendly tracks (most are too long) so this will be the final week before we try something a bit nippier!

Donington Park 2019 v1.53 National (short) layout. 6 laps.

I tried Croft but thought the version I tried a little narrow - and i’m biassed away from airfield tracks and towards anything with dips, rises, camber….

@cookie— I haven’t googled, but is there a particular version you can point me towards?
