Tuesdays from 17th December 2024

We're moving away from the Lotus Cortinas and trying the Lada VFTS race cars.

First track will be Anglesey. For bandwidth reasons, please refrain from downloading direct from the SR4L server event as it will be very slow and choke my broadband.

Instead, please follow this Steam Collection link to quickly get to the two files you need to subscribe to in the Workshop.

Server will be up shortly.

Important note - the Ladas (on my machine in VR at least) seem to be a bit greedy on graphics. I found that I get a much smoother and faster FPS with the following settings - the cars still look fine inside and out with these lower levels of details.

Car and track feel good, no performace issues, but I have been disconnected twice from the server in less than 30 mins.

...and it also happens in single player?! I have no idea how that's possible. I mean I am booted from my own single player session because the connection is lost, but to where? I've never had that in rfactor before.

That's really odd!

I'll try to do some testing myself later.

Did some laps just now on the server with no issues. I've spent a couple of hours refining a setup but still wasn't happy. Reverted to defaults and immediately went 0.5s quicker. I think time is best spent learning the quirks of how to control this Lada, like what makes it rotate and stop rotating when you're in too deep. Nothing I did with the setup seemed to tame its instability when cornering hard.

I've just done the same. No issues with the server. Spent a while refining a setup - and then went a couple of tenths quicker on defaults.

I think I *do* prefer my setup as it feels more controllable and predictable - but it's not faster yet.

Quite a nice car though - you can make it dance with practice - but it'll also trip up over its shoe laces every so often!

Deliberate 9-minute race time set instead of the usual laps by the way. It should equate to 7 laps unless someone posts blinders.

Ah!

Next Tuesday is the 24th! I’m guessing this won’t be a popular racing night (!?!) Nor will the following Tuesday! Can anyone make the Monday nights (23rd, 30th) instead?

Server is up anyway - Ladas at Rouen.

Rouen is v1.0 available here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...3202013020

Sounds like it will be low attendance tomorrow. Maybe I'll wait until the new year.

I’m not sure who will be there. Last week it was Stu, Paul and myself. They’re (or were) planning on driving again this week as we kept the track. If Cruicky and Jonathan turn up, that’d be a reasonable crowd…

…the other thing is that I’m away a week today for my expedition cruise to Antarctica… I think I might be back for w/c 20th, but I can’t remember if I’d be in a fit state for the normal Tuesday times.

I’ll be online tonight as planned - it’s my last chance (other than SCB Thursday) to race before I go.

While I’m away, I think SCB have offered to host us on Tuesdays. I’ll ask Cruicky to take the lead (and possibly for SCB to use a temporary admin password so that Cruicky can manage the races directly on the night(s))…

Jonathan says he’ll try to join - and maybe persuade John Laing (a mutual friend who recently bought a rig off him) to join too.

Stu says they can host Tuesdays for the three that I’m away - setting a temp password for Cruicky to run the races via his admin tool. Leave it up to you guys to choose what/where etc.
