Sim Racers 4 Life - Lola T280 Season - Round 4 - Belgium
#1
[Image: xnrk1s.jpg]

Sim Racers 4 Life welcomes you to Season 5 of our Historic's League. After four seasons driving open wheelers, this season we take a little step forward in history and get to drive the historic Lola T280, a car that provides both a powerfull engine and adjustable wings.
This fourth event will take place on March the 29th in historic Belgium. Belgium is the fastest and most dangerous track of the season. Drivers will have to deal with slipstreams and turbulences created by other cars while cornering at very high speeds.
The event will be a classic 2x30 min races. Having the second race reversed grid for the top ten finishers of the first race.

SR4L wishes you good luck for the season.

To race in this event remember to register in our league site for the league (http://www.simracers4life.com/league/)

(*) Special pitstop instruction for SPA (as posted last year, thanks to DjC for the effort)

You will need to set a 'request pit' button and press it in good time before pitting. Unlike other tracks the pits are on the main straight.

WHEN RACING
On a normal lap when NOT pitting, don't cut the entrance of pit lane.
[Image: b112a38c-4d6f-4dc0-9397-6b27b57626c3.jpg]

You can cut the line at your own discretion after the pit entrance. Hitting a pitted car will see you disqualified from the race.
[Image: 50eda793-e2f5-4c40-98ba-4adcd2bc4180.jpg]

If you decide not to pit after requesting a pitstop, careful not to drive into the pit area or you could get a speeding ticket by the game. Cancel pit request is best thing to do.
When you are low on fuel the game can automatically request the pit crew without you requesting pit, be careful this does not happen if you are cutting into the pit area at full speed or again the game could give you speeding ticket. Cancel this request with the pit request button. This should not be a problem anyway if you follow the above rule of not cutting into the entrance of pit lane.

Hi all,
I'm making the announcement for Belgium rather early.
The reason for this is that tomorrow I'll be flying to Perú with my wife to visit her family. That means I'll be missing this race :'( (the best of the season) as I won't be back home until the end of Easter holidays.

I think I'll have access to an internet conection but just in case I've arranged the announcement thread and made it public. If able, I'll keep updating the weather forcast until race day.
Paul, Nikos, feel free to make as much changes as needed in this post in case I can't get an internet connection (I hope that won't happen)

Thanks Niko.

In the announcement I've added the DjC's friendly version link I had.

To calculate the racing laps for the event I did an outlap and a single lap to the track (full of rubber) right after we raced on sunday. I did a 3:18:X using Brianza's setup so I want everybody to be way faster than that. Wink

Some thoughts on Spa and simracing..

The time at the track we will be racing is early 60's, judging by the condition of the tarmac that is really in a terrible state, economic situation in Europe still reflecting post WWII shortcomings.
Armco hadnt yet been added everywhere, this would be done in 1969 after a boycot of the Belgian Grand Prix by the drivers, especially after Jackie Stewart's crusade following his 1966 crash at Masta kink that sent his car in the outside basement of the farmhouse touching the kink at the outside of the corner.

After the boycot, Armco was added and by now the tarmac should have been smoothed out as the drivers were eager to stop racing in this most dangerous circuit and eventually they succeeded talking Spa off F1 calendar, last Belgian Grand Prix there, was the 1970 one.
From then on, only Endurance events continued, Spa 24 Hours for the European Touring Car Championship and Spa 1000 Kilometres for the World Championship for Makes, the Sports Cars.

It was at the 1972 1000 Kilometres that Lola 3L T280 raced at Spa driven by Larrousse/De Fierlant and she came 5th, 7 laps behind the winner Ferrari 312P(B) driven by Redman/Merzario.
Her best lap was 3:28:9 (while Redman/Merzario's Ferrari was 3:23:5 and Ickx/Regazzoni's Ferrari was 3:20:4)
For comparison, 1971 5L Porsches 917 were doing 3:16, 3:18, 3:19, 3:20.

So, to put things in perspective, Lola in real life, on a smooth tarmac lapped at 3:28, while Gorka is doing 3:18 on the minefield we are going to race (heck even I do sub 3:28s here).

Are we better drivers then from the racers at the time? :Smile

Sorry you can not race Gorka, you are my closest reveal Sad. Enjoy trip.

If Paul does go for my League friendly version, when he makes vMod he needs to make the update part of it. Just has to tick the radio button on the track on the final screen. The vMod should end up about 2meg instead of 0.7meg. If you get stuck just shout Paul. Hoping updates still work, I hear there have been many changes in this area of rfactor since we last used it, fingers crossed.

Hi Paul,
Looks like a no go'er. Crashes for me too, I've been testing too. I also tried my league friendly version of Brianza, that also crashes. Looks like they broke it in one of the newer builds.
Thanks for trying, sorry guys, looks like we going to have to run with the full danger of the default track Big Grin. I don't have a plan B. Big Grin

LOL i dont think so , we know we are not going to die if we mess up so we all push our limits and beyond without worry , they rarely got a second chance at this circuit
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

Definetly the fear factor is something to consider, in real life it'd take me double the time to do a lap.

Also grip levels feel very high, I don't think they were the same in those days.

There is a trick to remove the white posts from side of track,....Set track detail setting to something other than Max. I know it's naughty, but if everyone does it then it's not cheating Wink.

YES, I'll beware of Rik.
