Rnd 6 F1 Legends Oulton Park Race Reports
#1
Post your race reports Big Grin.

Qualify.
Thought I was going to be starting 5th but I put in a mega lap putting it on pol with 5 mins to go. Was very close Big Grin.

Race
Started on the unrubbered side, what kind of pol is this?:eek: Rolleyes Big Grin. DeeCee jumped passed and took my lead from me.
His race pace was quick. He was pulling away. I had Tobias and JohnC on my tail who were also quick.
On lap 4 DeeCee Fires himself into a wall.

So that is me in the lead for the rest of the race. Had Ratus closing in slowly but he could not get near my rear this time.

CU in next one.

Hi,
Much better than expected for me.

QualityBig Grinuring practice hardly did 1:35 few times. I am used to be 3 secs slower than fastest guys for a 90 secs lap.. So it was a surprise to do a 1:34...

Race: My usual bad start put me in 18th after first corner. I had to work hard to keep the car on track on some corners so I decided to be patient. There had to be a quite few accidents in front because I barely 2 or 3 overtakes and finished in top ten...

I had some close racing too for a few laps.
Good race for me

Qually
Got out first and promptly fell off at Island seemingly no grip like track was green , got going and managed a low 32s , then watched as everyone speeded up , when Tobias beat my time I went out and tried again and at last broke into the 31s I had been trying to do that all week , grip seemed to come late in the session when DJ popped in a great one and snatched the pole .

Race
Had a great start and just managed to edge the lead , started to pull away from DJ and by lap 3 I had a couple of seconds on him, then it all went wrong at island , brain fade , brake fade , skill fade whatever , I just didnt slow enough to take the corner and suffered a fiery exit to the race , what an idiot .

On to the next track which is an out and out power circuit , the Eagles and Ferrari’s will make the Brabhams look very 2nd class here
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

For my part I was very disappointed with my qualifying, I could have done much better but I was still stuck in traffic and made mistakes in my best laps. What a desappointment.

In the race I still had difficult first laps, I still have difficulty judging distances in close combat. I'm sorry for Bayford I hung it as I was spinning to get back on track, I should have waited for you I'm sorry.
Then the rest of the race was not easy, I made a lot of mistakes and had a collision with Cook who skidded on the grass but luckily that didn't put me out of the race. Sorry for you that it ended like this.

Short 3rd but a race full of mistakes and I think I had the speed to fight for the win, I hope that will happen soon.

Looking forward to seeing you on the track again.

Training: The car was very unpleasant to drive until I discovered that magic of slow bump settings which I increased to about 7 getting a much more stable and driveable car in return. Super busy work schedule did not leave much room for many training laps but I had some practice.

Qual: from the live timing before I was hoping for P4 with som luck. In between it even looked like pole but then the combined effect of additional rubber and upping the ante of the other drivers led to a different outcome. Still pleased with the result.

Race: Start was ok and I could hang on to the fast guys for a few laps. Then I made a mistake and crashed resulting in a car that was too difficult to drive to go fast. I came in for an early pitstop that lasted 93 sec and tried to focus for the remaining laps. No major incidents after that. The car felt fast too after the repair - good job mechanics! - I even managed to produce a 1.31 lap with it. There was one white car where I touched the wheel at druids corner in an overtaking attempt. Sorry for that, hope it was not too bad. In the end it was P7 which I am still happy with after the crash and repair.
Do you even lift?

Hadn't time to practice allot before, so i didn't expect good position in Qualy or Race from myside. So the P5 Qualy time surprised me even more. In the first laps of race first i felt unsure and had the feeling of no grip. The pilots infront made some small mistakes, sadly saw Dave's Brabham burning after couple of laps, sorry for him! That turn (second left fast) was realy dangerous when missed braking point. So I landed on P2 with about 7-8 seconds behind David. Could advance a bit but he didn't make any misstakes. During 1-2 lapse I thougt he is lifting the throttle to make it more a challenging finish Smile

Fun Race, thanks for the great organisation!

Grats David and all finishers, nice to have full grids. Cu in Brazil Cool

This combo scared me from the beginning of the first practice sessions, I love Oulton Park, but with these beast..
At the end I came out with a confortable setup that was not so fast but it was safe for me in this narrow track.
I started tha race in P14, after Turn 1 I was P12, some incidents in front puted me in P10, till I get P8.
I knwe that the my enemy would have been only the mistakes so kept holding high the level of concentration. Than I had to give up a pair of positions to Tim and Txus (sorry Txus 4 the little bump), they was having a slightly faster pace than me. After a good pit stop I found myself in P8 again till the end of the race.

It was an other great racing night with a beautiful grid!
See you guys soon on trax Smile

First time back after missing three rounds... probably should have missed this one too. Bleah. Was OK for the first few laps until a Brabham spun in the final corner and moved forward right as I was moving to pass in front of it. Light contact but screwed up the front track. Tried to hang on but went off a few laps later and did more damage. Long early pit stop. Damage not fully repaired. Two more unforced errors, another long pit stop needed. Outside the top 10, which is unsuccessful. My only chance with the Cooper is to succeed on consistency and yesterday I just didn't have it.
