Re: SR4L Fun Event Rnd 6 Malaysia
Another great night of racing with you guys. Great respect on track too, and that's quite difficult with 3 differents cars. About my evenning : Qualy : Two good laps. My best was 1 39 3xx, very good time. With all my best sessions sectors that could have been 0.4 faster but it seems like everyone was in that case. Nothing special, I put a good lap, I got the pole. Race : Okay, here come THE big part. We were all a little bit worried about this hour of racing I guess, never done anything like that on rF2 before. So I tried to take a good start and to not burn my rear tires before the T1. Everything went better than expected as I took some space, that give me the good conditions to start to preserve the tires. I did one little mistake during this first stint, I was put under presure by Marcel, who was very close, less than 2 seconds for a long moment, I tried to really think about the tires first and not giving him a DRS opportunity. I was lucky enough with the traffic as that help me to put some more gap between Marcel and me. At this point we were looking at who was going to pit first, Marcel did it after 20 laps. I tried to give me an advantage for the end of the race by putting 2 more laps before my pitstop. At the beginning of the lap number 23 there were 8 seconds between us, that's not a big gap. With fresher tires I went faster and with only 1/3 of the race to go I wasn't thinking much to take care of them. And I did a mistake, cost me just one second but could have ended my race. I was pushing quite hard and I locked tires at T1, almost spun. That burn my tires but after one lap they were good again. I made it until the end without much trouble.

Today I decided that my pedal positions weren't good any more so me being me completely took apart my assembly right before a race, and built a new setup. I brought them up and put them more at a 90 degree angle. I rewired them and flipped the red and orange wire on the accelerator pedal, this caused my leo bodnar cable to short out I guess. That's what I do....break sh@t . So i plugged them in to my G27 and things worked, I could race at least although my brake pedal feel was very light and I hate that.
Qualy was spent adjusting controls and settings because my newly plugged in g27 messed all my bindings up plus I kept leaving and adjusting my pedals with the tweek softwear . I managed a lap but not a very good one I was way off Bryan and Marcel, Marcel had put down an Alien time like usual and Bryan had a second on me. So I left it at that....slow ..... My race went well made really no mistakes and got used to my pedal by lap ten or so. I went 50 50 with the fuel and that worked out well. I really love the 3.5 you can really toss it around unlike the other modern formulas. I found myself sideways a few times but in full control. I would love to see a race with just this car I think those that never drove it before are in for a pleasant surprise. So back on subject I finished behind Marcel but in front of Bryan. I don't remember pass you Bryan??? Did you crash out some where?? C u guys at the next one.....

News from the back (it cannot be more back than that).
I was awfull in Malaysia, didnt have much practise, I was overshooting all slow bends, especially this devil uphill left hander at the back. I was lucky to get this fantastic stable setup Mickael offered (ty fast guy) and I settled in some decent (for me) laps at quali. I was running SS tyres and I had nice breaking but wondered how much they will last. Just before race I decided to change to Hards, so I could get away with just one pitstop. What a mistake! Imediately when race started I knew I was in big trouble. The Hards are so different in everything. Different braking points, different grip and I didnt have any at all practise with them, so all race I went to mistake and overshoot after mistake and overshoot. Race was very interesting though, as I had a continous battle with mr Swire, who even having a much slower car than me (I was passing him like standing at the big straights), was driving obviously better than me and challenged me all race. I bet if he had Marussia as well, he would be on top. At the end of race I was sweating all over, I was getting dizzy of so many laps, quite a test for me this 1 hour race. btw I managed with just one pitstop. ![]()

Nikos, how were you able to use Super Softs? I was only able to choose Mediums,Hards,Inters or Wets. Am I doing something wrong?

As for the race, well, enjoyed it immensely. A low 1.41 with Mediums (no Softs available in my garage, don't know why, I've used them offline before though) was enough for 3rd on the grid.
Decided to 2 stop as a Pit stop only put 25 seconds on laptime and I thought I'd be over 2 seconds a lap quicker with 3 stints on Mediums rather than 2 on Hards. Changed my mind 10 seconds before race start! Started on Hards and planned to 2 stop so I could push without worrying about condition of tyres. Got a good start and almost stole 2nd during T1 and T2 but not quite! Mickael and Marcel G then began to slowly pull away but not too much. Started to hit traffic after 9 or 10 laps I think. Caught Mel in the Formula 2 and he moved offline to let me past. It was on one of those long, tightening right handers though and I couldn't keep far enough right to ensure no contact. Sorry Mel. I honestly thought you'd slowed and hugged the left lane more than you actually had. Lost my front wing and had suspension damage so had to pit for one and a half minutes of repairs. Changed tyres while I was in. Decided to try and make these last til end of race. Over 20 laps left. Emerged from lengthy pit stop in 11th I think. Made them last really well, making my way through traffic up to 5th. Thought, sod it, I'll push for 4th, maybe podium. I was catching those in front, but last 5 minutes, my tyres were a bit worse for wear and it was hard not to lose loads of time, or worse. In the last lap or two I made two places and finished in 3rd. If I hadn't picked up that damage and spent so long in the pits, I would've been much closer to the top two. The tyre management was a great experience. Driving the Marussia is very rewarding. Had a great time and I was delighted with a podium finish.

No Nikos, they were not available to choose in my garage. Is it something to do with the upgrades menu? I chose the Malaysia Track configuration.

I'm sure I tried that in the past but at Malaysia I still only get Hards/Mediums. Will test it again tomorrow. Thanks mate.

Race report Fun Event Rnd 6 Malaysia
All the time I was not sure can I do it with the mr01 in malaysia or is the F3.5 the better choice ? During the week days I earned some practice with the F 3.5 and after reading the post from bryan concerning the rc setting I changed this setting fit for my driving style and magic a stable setup good enough for my goal is ready. But during this steps there was all the time "the other alex" on my left shoulder whispering in my left ear marrusia, marussia,mar... ;D I started the practice session with the F 3.5 to and turned some laps around to see where I stand. OK Marcel was as always astronomical far away but I thought him (hypothetical) away and then it was OK ;D And then again :o in my left ear "marrusia, marussia.. two minutes later I was online with the mr01 and fortunately there was shared a setup (mine was really bad) : . After on lap it was clear "it's possible"must only tweak some values to get more control in some situations and then it's perfect for me. ![]() And from this point everything went wrong > Suddenly I noticed qualifying is in 8 minutes on end :o Damn I must do a quick lap :o and fuel o shit how much I need :o ok first the quick lap have only time for one try . First try failed damn :o ok onetime again, managed have to prepare myself for60 min race )drink, food, smoke and the other thing ;D back in the seat :o 28 sec. $*$* > the fuel how much i need after some "quick" head-calculation I set .. sorry I have forgotten what I had set : a quick look to the clock :o 5 sek no time :o race 4 3 2 1 start : ;DFor the first ten laps I was (think) between 8th and 10th place with the feeling and goal for more ;D In lap ten my tyres where at "end of life" and I knew I have to do a pit stop. Short before the pit stop my car was hit from behind and after some turns I lost my rear flap during braking with my rear flap on the wall > On the way to the pit stop I turned again and very close to again :-[ . After a pit stop for 157 sec. there was no chance to catch my goals for this race Over an out ![]() Finished on place 14. :-\ but finished. alex

I didn't feel too good yesterday (flu+feverish) but I decided to have a go with the F3.5, which I 'discovered' just one day ago. Very nice to drive. Wonder why I never tried it before.
Qualify came (because of little practice with this car) almost obviously with a pb. I ran the car with default setup, only wings some clicks lower, I can't tell how good the lap was in terms of laptime but it felt like I hit every corner about right. ![]() Anyway, the start was exciting, I had a little battle with John Cook for P5 but I was able to pull away from him. After Jason's incident I found myself in 3rd place for the remainder of the race. I was a bit worried about Hectari being 15 secs behind me at the final part of the race but I was able to control that gap untill I came across Poehlman. He must have had a gazillion blue flags, he was all over the place (tires?) but I couldn't pass him, only untill another car (rothmans? not sure) came up the back of ours and Poehlman spun it under accelarating after the hairpin. Please next time watch your mirrors. So still 3rd but now ahead of Hectari for about 8 secs only. So I had to push it some more. The timer reached zero, I ran across start finish for the last lap but after some corners, my engine had enough of it and died. Still 5th place, a nice evening but now I got to recover for the big one next Sunday :-[Cheers, Marcel Wiegers

Bed and rest, Marcel, Nordschleife will be exhausting (unless crashing early which can happen to anyone there).
As this week it seems rain will definetly stop, I will be able to jog all days and be phisically prepared for sunday (hope my hears recover soon after yesterday's metal concerts)
