try setting an infinte ping while you are driving in a test just like that one you did.
In a command line type something like "ping -t SR4L_server_ip_address > log.txt" (we need to know the servers IP)
Then, after the test check the log.txt file to see if packets were lost when the cars disappeared. At least we can check is the reason is a lost of communications with the server.
