I was on the outside line, and did watch the replay. (Also have years of oval racing experience.) You were just handicapped considerably by running a road-course setup (hence locking a wheel on a superspeedway which never should happen). No biggie.
Rick, any track that is classified as an oval in the GDB will activate the in-game spotter. I have a custom spotter I made built from sounds that were in NASCAR Racing 2003's data files (some calls never used in that game). It has a few more calls, like "Car low ... stay low ... hold your line ... " using the randomization feature of rf2's Commentary file.
