I've recently re-mapped the gears so that I have 1st gear downwards (2nd gear position) and reverse upwards in 1st gear position, and so on... I know the lotus 49 had it so, but I don't know how realistic it is for these F2 cars...

I think all 60s 5-speed racers used it but I think you cannot map this for a G25 shift.

It could be done though by mounting the lever back to front so reverse is at right place and remap everything else, mounting it though is a big problem.
