SR4L Fun Race Longford
#23
Lets report what happened at Longford.

For a start, it wasnt Longford, but Spa.

Many people came at Lonford to practice when race was announced and we quickly found out that Longford was unsuitable to race, there was a bug at start grid and cars landed on top of others while they were placed on grid.
Race Director quickly responded to the problem and changed Lonford for Spa.
This turned out for me sweet, as I terribly strugled in Longford with these big lazy cars.

I started practicing at Spa and it was soon clear to me that G6 was a very fun car to race, very nimble despite its lazy engine and 4speed gearbox, compaired to G4 with its boat-like responces.
Curiously 5speed gearbox of the G4 MkIIIB didnt help much, the 4speed of G6 was much more fun and it did get you in the climate of the era of huge heavy US engines.

What was very frustrating in this race though, was seeing people trying to get in the server and being thrown out repeatedly because they chose wrong configuration.
It took me too a while to figure it out, I think this was an unneeded complication that set many people off.
I also found out Saturday night, listening Paul and Marcel talking that we should change cars between the two races, I really must try to give special notice to these yellow letters, maybe make them flashing purple with stars exploding :Smile

I went late into quali as daughter wanted a lift at short notice (she really must get a driving licence) and was lapping fluidly and pleasantly with G6.

Just before Race 1 started, looking at the cars chosen, I saw most were G6s.
After a flash of wisdom, I went out and picked a G4, the thought was that I cannot compete these fast guys with G6, so why not pick now a G4 as Im dead anyway, and next race when most will have slow G4s maybe my chances would be better with my G6.

As it turned out it didnt matter much.

In both races my mind was focused on George who had the same car as me and we had long and enjoyfull battles together.

Race 1, he was a lot in front of me, as I had started last and lost time at start too, but suddenly I saw a yellow flag at middle of race and there he was, he had lost it at Masta Kink.

By then I was lapping very carefully with the G4, being carefull not to loose it anywhere, as I didnt trust this car at all!
Well, next time I entered Masta Kink, I lost it same way as George did, and to top it all, he zoomed past me Tongue

So there we were, one behind the other, with the same damage I suppose, pushing, sliding, making the same mistakes, but I guess he did one more than me as I passed him in last lap, to get a cool 4th.

Race 2, same situation, same car, but now I had a big advantage, I was truly happy with G6 and he obviously wasnt as he was sliding in many places.
Also I know Spa so much more than him, having raced here since I was a kid (my real name is Jackie Stewart), so I was all over him very quickly.

Catching a guy is very different than passing him though.
I pressured and pressured, stuck my nose in the inside, in the outside, no way to pass, he defended fiersly, sliding everywhere, shutting doors on me repeatedly (ouch, thats my nose).

This continued, I lost it some times trying to avoid him sliding, I was catching him again and the same thing went on and on.

Then, at last lap, I decided I had enough, so I stuck in his slipstream at Masta straight and held there.
Just before the Kink, I made my move, went out of slipstream in his righthand, but he didnt take it lightly, he tried to stop me passing him.

I didnt understand what exactly happened there, it all was so fast, but we both were thrown out of track.
George stopped, I crawled slowly to the finish to take 3rd place.

Please check your replay George (you know Im a noob in this) and report what happened there.

Whatever happened, the thing that I got from last night, was the most fun I ever had racing in RF2!!
It was the first time I had a so long and so close battle with a fellow racer and the enjoyment was unbelievable!

You are very lucky persons you fast guys, who race like that in every race Wink
