Well, really unlucky day for me.

I got off to a great start. Was 8th in qualify with a 2:14.088 until John sneaked in with a 2:13.8, so 9th. Not bad, considering most upper positions were aliens in the 2:11 zone. Anyway, was really happy about my result, also being my PB.

In warmup I tried the race setup with half tank of fuel and harder suspensions. Felt quite ok, I was getting it.
My "strategy" was to keep cool and try to make it to the end, no matter what happens around me.

Race starts. I get a good start, keeping my position.
Around T3 I see a couple of drivers touching and probably John (?) spinning off track.
I'm 8th now. "Keep it cool, it'll be ok" :-)

Well, at Maggots everyone disappears.

"FFFFFUUUUUUUUU" I think... "Not now please. Please..."

About half way through the straight towards Stowe, I get the dreaded "Connection lost".
Dammit.

ISP DNS went down for a minute or two.

I tried rejoining but there was no hope to being with.
Lost the position and the race.

This sad race was also the last one for me until mid August, as I'm going on vacation.
I'm going to miss two of the best races of the season.
This is definitely not my luckiest SR4L moment :-( although I think I'm definitely improving my pace and driving.

I'll see you in some weekly practice or maybe next Sunday if there's a fun event.
Maybe we could have a BT20 race at Belgium or Monaco? :-)

Not much better for me cos. Sad

I joined at practice with next to no practice for this event.

At quali I got a 2:23. I was happy with that and just concentrated on doing clean laps rather than try and get faster.

Started race from the back of the grid. At turn one saw a couple of people touch managed to avoid them. Carried on at my slow pace mid 2:23's did an early pit stop to avoid the rush. Rejoined and was at the back again. Found myself fighting with Jim Carvalho after a few laps and it was difficult with the fast guys lapping us at the same time.

Then on the 17th lap disaster struck. I saw that Jim got a dq for something. I spun off track and while trying to get back on track got a dq myself Sad race over.

First of all, sorry for some pushy talking at forum.

The Report.

Qualy
-------
After heavy working this thursday with the setup I gained a full second to the setup I used the first two races so I was quite confident (even knowing Riks super pace) that I could do a podium finish.
Managed a 2:10.6 and later a 2:10.4, just enough to beat Robert by a tenth and starting second.

Race
---------
I had little practice on long runs because of dedicating my little spare time to practice on the setup. That showed on race.
Start was good on the green side of the track and managed to get to turn 1 clean behind Rik.
The lack of long runs practice made me make tiny mistakes, enough to struggle to make constant lapping. That made DjC to catch me when we were in lap 10.
After some great battles with Robert behind as a silent predator waiting for us to make a mistake we three went into the pits at the same time. Pit time was 51 seconds an left ahead of the three.
A few laps later I found that Robert was on fire and was cutting on me more than a second every lap. With six laps to go he was on my tail and at the final corner I went a little wide and lost my rear being spit to the left and bad-damaging the car. Damn I was stupid.
Struggling with the car I saw David was 3 seconds behind me. Trying to match his laptimes with the left side damaged car I lost it on the final braking and spun. He passed me and there I was red in embarrasment losing a podium finish.
Luckily Dave Hart was 24 seconds behind so I could bring the car to the end safely endind in an unhappy 4th place.

Well, race was over, some valueable point lost, but also some good ones in the pocket considering I don't like modern Silverstone.

I finally get a good and a bad conclusion from today.
The bad is that I need to do more constant lapping on long runs.
The good is the improvement in the setup of the car that I hope will bring better racing nights in the future.

By the way. I've used my pulsometer to check how "sporty" the race was (considering I like a high force feedback). Here's the result:
Total time: 1:02:20
BPM Avg: 124
BPM Max: 153
Calories: 660 Kcal

Probably the Max bpm were at the beginning and the lowest that made a low average were the final laps (when all podium chances were lost and I drove easy to make it to the end)

Very close calorie burning to my average daily 6km runs (except for the average bpm which are around the max the whole running)

P.S: I must add that I race using the three pedals and manual gears.

Perfect race from Team Hedlund once again Big Grin

QUALI
Improving my laptimes from 2:11 to 2:10 earlier in the week but didn't expect me to be able to do 2:09's. Only managed that two times before quali and it was really hard to repeat that once quali finally started. I also managed to cut track just a litte with some of my 2:10-laps so I wanted to improve with a clean lap to not be a cheater Big Grin Well finally managed to do 2:09.7. Watched the replay later and saw that I was really on the limit several times that lap, but not out of track hehe. It was enough for pole.

RACE
I think it was a really even start and at least top 4-5 were able to keep their positions through the first corners. I had expected and hoped that Robert could take advantage of the rubbered side to squeeze himself past Gorka but he wasn't. Instead I saw DJ overtake him. My first laps were not perfect, made some small mistakes which made Gorka catch me instantly, but he was never able to attack. After a while I found a better pace and slowly getting away from him. After a couple of laps I knew that I was going to win this if I didn't make any mistakes because my tires lasted very good so I concentrated on the pitstop. 46 seconds and no speeding ticket this time Wink Lapped a couple of drivers who did really great and moved over in time. So no scary moments. Finished 1st and saw Robert had done a great job and got past both DJ and Gorka.

Not the most exciting race for me, but it was fun anyway. Thanks for hosting!

I was surprised to get Roberts position just 2nd corner after start. He had a good fight trying to get it back. He had a look in every gap I left him. Gorkas tires must have been going off because few laps before the pits we were right on him.
In to the pits we go and I look to see what pit time I got, 58 seconds!!! Whhaaat. I knew straightaway what happened, when I pressed the pit request button that must have un-requested the pits instead of requesting them. When you low on fuel it does it automatically, I should have checked. All I could do was watch Gorka and Robert pull away with me still in the pits, I lost 10 seconds.
The rest of the race was watching the time gap between Robert and Gorka, hopping they would get in a battle and slow them self's down. That is kind of when happened. Robert pressured Gorka into a mistake and Gorka hits wall and damages his car. I was happy to take his podium finish Big Grin. Thanks Gorka Big Grin.

Nice BPM thingy Gorka.

Practise sessions last 2 weeks made me pretty confident about my pace around here. Biggest mistake i made was changing wheels going from g27 onto T500RS.....lol i love my new wheel but man does this thing feel different and it feels like i have to learn driving all over again.
My pb with g27 was 1:13:7xx and i could do consistent laps of 1:14's. New wheel sets me back 1,5 sec for now...... :-[

But in quali i did a 1:14:8 putting me behind cosimo at the rubbered side of the grid.

Race

Managed to stay behind Cos and saw Mel or John....dunno spin in t1. came thru good and could keep up with my Italian opponent Wink but at once he was gone........really sucks Cos i feel bad for you.
Made some mistakes and at one point i was behind Jerry and had a nice battle with him (well driven Jerry..very consistent). second to last turn i made a move on Jerry but clipped him, making him to spin off.....my bad Jerry really sorry bout that....so to give me no advance i waited for Jer to regain the battle. We both lost 2 or 3 places due to that incident.
After that i made again a mistake and got into the hands of Rick Nauman who did very well also, i think i was faster but man Rick what a car control you have.....respect.

At some point after pitting i was in 9th place with 8th (Giorgio Minga) being way to far in front an due to get lapped by 2nd and 3rd Rick far behind. So 9th it was.

Had great fun though, i have to say i like the longer races......
Thanks for hosting Paul great job once again.

I've had better days. But even the worst day of racing is better than almost anything else. Qually went OK, putting me in 10th or so. Looked like several others were close in times; so I was expecting some good battles throughout the event. Unfortunately I spun and damaged my right rear early on lap 2. That took 112 seconds to fix in the pit. Fortunately (?!?!) my pit crew messed up and gave me enough fuel to go to the end. So I figured I'd just try to do some consistent times and see where I was when everyone else did their stops. However, the server gave me a signal to pit without saying what the infraction was. When I pitted, I had to wait for someone else at that stall; and then I got no recognition that I had stopped. I tried to stop again the next lap, and was given fuel, but no recognition of the "penalty." Next lap, DQ. Not sure what it was all about. Hope everyone else had better luck and more fun. Again everyone's driving was impeccable from what I saw. Well done, folks.

Qauli- had a good last lap and slotted in behind mel on the grid-

Race- had a t1 spin as mel turned in too soon- so i was immediately in last place from the start- spent the first part of the race chasing rick, nikos and giorgio ;and having to pass them was no easy chore

after the pitstop i was in 7th with giorgio losing time behind me - i got out of step a couple times in the last laps so giorgio was catching but it was over so too late

my teamie got stuck in the pits ......

Thanks for explaining DJ, it happened to me too, I thought RF2 was playing jokes on me, calling for pitstop by its own :S

I dont understand what happened there Jim.

My race went ok.
all week I was doing easy 2:16s, I got some 2:15s too.
Yesterday the best I could was 2:17s.

I was at the back most of the time but I had a really good battle with Tim, I made mistakes but I guess he did more.

A very long race, at the last laps I was getting tired and couldnt concetrate much.
I was lucky to pass this by and finish in one piece.

That always happens to me. Really frustrating... I hate the auto pit request Angry In the beginning I manually unrequested when it showed up but it takes only a few seconds before it pop up again, so now I just leave it and press button two times instead when I want to pit (unrequest-request). It's annoying to see the HUD though... I don't want to have it there while racing.

@JimmyC

Maybe it was a "drive through" and not "stop & go" penalty? Check the results log file, it tells you about all penalties in the race.

I never get the auto pit request unless it is selected on the garage settings. In this track, fuel calculation was completely wrong saying 27 liters lasted for 9 laps instead of 13.
If I had enabled 1 pitstop with 27 liters at lap 9 pitstop would have been auto requested. So I set 27 liters and then changed it to 0 pitstops. So when I was at lap 13 I would manually request it and 27 liters would be the default option. If I didn't I would have run out of fuel without having any auto request.

Pitstop gets auto requested as soon as you start sector2. If you unrequest it will be again auto requested when you start sector3.

Hey guys..
I guess by now, you know I messed up with pit entry. so, here is the rest of the story
qual - 10th, ok ish... still searching for speed. had an ok start, don't know about all those contacts rikard, I only remember getting tagged by Edwin. I understand Edwin - just trying to get by me, I thought you would pull up along side of me and I was going to let you go, but then we collided. thanks for waiting - class act! Wink
after I got my speeding penalty - I was like WTF! and not paying attention - my fault jimmy C, didn't see you there and I wasn't thinking - great bit of driving to avoid me - thanks Wink (and, you did come to a complete stop in the pits as I watched on replay - don't know why the game didn't recognize that?)
after the second speed penalty - I clicked out - this was a good thing. finished 13th behind my team mate who got 12th - nice finish Tim! Wink
will learn from this and move on to spa..
seeeeeeeeeeeee ya --- jer
