Embarrasing race :-[

After making 2nd place in qualifying I had good hopes for this race.On practice I had a god racing pace lapping constant laps and taking enough care of the tires to have them in the green almost for 30 laps.

At the moment we were about to the second attempt of race start the phone rung, wife put it on my ear as it was my mother. She finally hung as we were about to get the green flag. :o
At race start just thought of getting quickly behind David and getting on the rubbered lane but Rikard was taking David's slipstream and I had to keep on the dirty side. At turn 1 entry as I shifted from 4th to 5th gear I completely lost the rear of the car and headed straight to the wall.
Damn I'm stupid, I thought. Car was flying and crashing the fence without control, I pressed the Scape key about to leave and avoid ruining others' race. But as I saw everyone was getting safely I didn't click on the exit race button.
Got back to the pits for repairs which took 80 seconds. From there I had to race the next 57 laps with the same set of tires and a 70+ liter tank. Wished I could gain some positions back but as I found group of 4 cars battling eachother, when I tried to overtake them and outlap myself I quickly got blue flagged, so I had to stay behind these cars untill they decided to go to their pitstops.
At around lap 35 my right tires got in the yellow, grip was being noticeable reduced on corners, mainly at even corners. DjC, coming from his pitstop, quickly reached me and lapped me.
I tood advantage of his slipstream to remain there till almost the end of the race. For a moment I tried to outlap him as he seemed to struggle with front grip at some corners but as I saw I couldn't get enough advantage I gave back my position and remained behind him.

Not the best of comebacks. :-\

Oval racing was quite fun, after all Big Grin I'm glad I decided to race. I never thought that I was going to win this! Feels great 8) Thanks to Ed for sharing his setup with me... I know nothing about oval racing. Coyne seemed to be too fast for me, and Gorka had great speed too. But somehow I closed the gap in qualify, only 1-2 tenths behind, and on my fastest lap I had a 2-3 seconds draft behind someone on start/finish straight and managed to get into the 55's. Only milliseconds behind Coyne and Gorka, but it was impossible to improve that time, so 3rd on the grid and I was really happy with that.

Gorka disappeared in T1, shame, we could have had a great battle. DC got a gap of ~2 seconds on the first lap but after that I managed to find some speed and keep him in sight. John and DJ were battling each other behind me and it looked like they were cooperating, trying to catch me, but they never managed to do so ;D For more than 15 laps the gap to DC stayed the same (really consistent laptimes from both of us) but then I was slowly catching him. When I finally got a draft, I made a small mistake and touched the wall after T1 and the gap was back to ~2 seconds. It took me a few laps to catch him again but at lap 24 or 25 I overtook him for the lead. I tried to get away from him because I did not want him right behind me after my pitstop, because I knew he was going to be quicker than me on fresh tires. Entered pits on lap 30 and DC continued one more lap... I tried to gain some time by driving on the limit while entering and exiting pits + tried to keep 99 km/h. I was successful because I had a big gap to DC after my pitstop! This was how I won the race, definitely Big Grin So the final 29 laps I could drive relaxed Smile

Thanks for hosting! Looking forward to next race, a 'real' track again :Smile

First i want to thank all once more for letting me in again....after warm up my system once again freezed on me and by the time i was logged in again.....well you all where already racing....
Class act thanks to all

quali:

i don't like ovals that much so i didn't have much practise. I was confident about my setup tho so i figured i would be okay during the race. as i expected many accidents (how could i be so wrong)

Race:

In lap one Cosimo came past me with the speed of a bullet, but i managed to get his tow and we where heading towards Christoph.
We had a nice battle going on and i decided to take it easy and just keep up with those guys and see what happens.....in the mean time saving my tires Wink
Tim and Giorgio came from behind and Tim obviously was faster then me so i let him go, but i came into a fight with Giorgio.
To describe the fight i had with Giorgio, well we have got a saying here in Holland that describes it very well and it goes like this:

Stuivertje wisselen..........

I think you all know what i mean right now, don't you :Smile
So we kept changing places till we clipped in turn 2, no damage done but that cost me a lot of time and i couldn't catch the guys in front anymore.
Lap 29 i was in 8th position and i pitted in lap 30. Team gave me a 52 second stop (4 tires and 67ltr no damage)
Came back on track in 13th position with Nikos in front approx 5sec lead. But disaster struck Nikos and he went of between t3 and t4 and i was able to pas him without giving him a fight. At one moment i was back in 9th position and i saw that the man in 3th place was behind me. i could see him in my mirror but he was way to far behind to even try and pas me. But race control decided to give me the blue flag and tbh i was ignoring that a little due to the fact that DJ was way to far behind imho. However racecontrol told me that if i would ignore the blue any longer that i would be penalised :o so i went off the throttle and DJ came past me after almost a week......lol......after a few seconds.
But sneaky Gorka was on 10th spot and hiding in the tow of DJ.....and Gorka also came past me.....well thanks again racecontrol >Sad

Finished 10th and had a great race.....still don't like ovals tho....but the racing is immersive ???

Thanks for setting it all up, and thanks all SR4L drivers........we really are a great bunch of guys!!!!!!!!!

Great racing, everyone, I saw. A very fun event. I had a "traction event" and tumbled down the track for a while. I was able to make it back to the pits for a very long repair stop. Once I got back out I continued to enjoy myself, until the dreaded blue flag penalty got me. (See other thread.)

Wow, nice tire wear Edwin Big Grin Tbh I never noticed that on my car. How much tread did you have left? When I went for my pitstop at lap 30 I had 83% left both front and rear, according to trackmap... so they were still quite good.

Qually

Went out early but could not get a clean lap , i still set a very low 56 so decided to sit back and watch , saw that Rik and Gorka both got into the 55s so went out again and put myself on a clear track and just pipped Gorkas time to snatch pole .

Race

Nervously approached the start as i know Gorka is a fast starter , got the go and floored it , my spotter was shouting " outside "of me so stayed low as i thought G was alongside then i saw the crash in my mirrors and i suddenly had 2 seconds on Rik , got my head down and was lapping consistently in the 56s , it stayed that way until my brain went walkabout and my concentration started to wander , i started to make small silly mistakes on my lines which slowed me and allowed Rik to catch me , he then passed me and i then compounded the problem by watching him instead of concentrating on my car . He pitted and i did 1 more lap , i was much too conservative with my pit entry and lost a lot of time to Rik , i came out 9 secs behind , i turned the wick up and got him down to 4 secs but i had used my tyres too much and he pulled away again to a well deserved win .
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

It was a great racing night for me! Smile
I never thought that oval racing may be so funny..

I practiced a lot during the week and came up with a sort of comfortable set up but fortunately my team mate provided me a good one on sunday, quite better than mine! I was able to make 57.1xx wich put me in the middle of the non Aliens grid

After qualy I was in 13th position but since the first laps I felt I was competitive with the guys in front of me. There started some great battles with Edwin, Pucher, Santucci and Carvallo.
What impressed me was the importance of the slipstream and I think rF2 is perfect in this feature.
I took a big risk with Edwin having a contact at T2 but fortunately none had bad consequences. (sorry Ed Wink ) Then I was stable behind Cosimo and Jerry waiting for the pit-stop. Don't know why but my pit crew took 58 secs to complete my stop, a bit too much (I call the pit at back straight(?)).
The second part of the race I was alone, isolated in my position.

My final result was 8th, wich is pretty good for me and my team but most important, I had great fun!!

Thank you guys and thank you SR4L!! Smile

i don't use trackmap, but after 30 laps my tires looked like this and in the hud they where shown as yellow with 2 blocks missing.......so iirc having 6blocks it should be 66%.

@Gplay....no worries we are good, was fun fighting with you on track.....btw i think the set Cosimo gave you was mine, i have to stop sharing these Tongue

Yeah, I heard abut your setup goin around and I thought it was the same that Cosimo gave me.. Smile
I suck in setup (in general tracks, let alone in ovals), it helped me a lot and the result was a great racing with you. Thank you Ed! Wink
