SIM RACERS 4 LIFE - MULTI-CLASSICS SEASON - ROUND 4 - SILVERSTONE 75 - REPORTS
#1
With Nikos out for this race I'll start it. Had my best weekend ever with SR4L, a P2 and P3.
Race 1
Did a PB which got me only 8th on the grid. More rubber in qualy always seems to allow just a bit more quickness than my practice rubber. Bogged the start (sorry to the guys behind me) but slotted into P5 after a few corners following S Dancourt. Got by him about lap 5 when he went deep and wide at Stowe. This put me in P3 since Rik had earlier had the first of many uncharacteristic spins. From there I followed Mel at about 1 or 2 sec until pitting after lap 12. He also pitted on that lap so we came in together and his pit box was directly in front of me. He must have had a slight bit of damage or something because I came off the jacks and got fueled just about a second before him. This let me peel out and squeak by him to take over P2. I just barely took the track in front of my team mate Cookie. He hounded me the rest of the race. There were a couple of times he might have made a move when I made slight bobbles and I’m sure if I wasn’t his team mate he might have tried. He posted after the race that he was on self-imposed team orders to NOT crash us out! So I took the checkers with the P2.

Race 2
For some reason I was put on the grid at P2. I followed Dan Minges for 2 laps until he had a spectacular high speed spin going into Becketts. So low and behold I was in P1! I knew it wouldn’t be long before the fast guys were on my tail. It didn’t take long before I slid wide at the Woodcote chicane and hit those rumble strips from hell! Sent me bouncing wildly and I bashed through the hay bales onto the old portion of the pavement. Luckily I remained upright (and apparently undamaged) and was able to rejoin the race down only a few positions. I was back to P3 by the time I pitted (lap 12) with a big gap back to P4. I left the pits in P5 and figured I’d get it back to P3 after everyone else pitted but somehow that never happened. Not sure why. But I did get back to P4 and raced alone there for the rest of the race. Until on the last corner Rik got all screwed up and spun out giving me P3 just before the finish line.

John Cooke had a good weekend too so we (C&N) should do well in the team championship standings.

Probably my worst race weekend with SR4L :o Started practice on Sunday afternoon, because I have not had time to do so earlier, but I usually don't need much practice to be competitive. This time I soon realised I would not be able to reach DJ's laptimes, but what was really annoying me was that the car felt really strange and very difficult to drive. My earlier setups did not work at all here. My only conclusion is that this track only consist of one type of corner - high speed corners - the type of corner that the Spark hates. I probably would have needed a few days to develop a completely different setup, to suit this kind of track better. I should have tried my Spa setup, but I'm quite sure nothing would help here...

QUALI
Was happy to take 2nd place, that was what I was aiming for after seeing Quickshark's laptimes Big Grin

RACE 1
2nd place on the grid was pretty much pole here. Starting almost side by side and I could quite easily take the lead from the rubbered side. Although I knew I had no chance because I was more that 1 sec slower per lap, I just decided to try to keep him behind me for as long as possible. I had to drive defensive lines most of the time, but I kept calm. I made a mistake on lap 3, I think, and DJ passed me. Coming out from the final chicane, the rear lost all grip and I made the first of many uncontrollable spins. Lost a couple of positions, and later I lost it again while fighting someone. This time in the high speed corner leading out on the Hangar Straight. Once again there was nothing I could do. I'm usually able to control these oversteer situations, but no counter-steering in the world helped yesterday, and I crashed into the armcos and lost my left front wheel. Decided not to continue the race when I saw repair time was 300 sec.

RACE 2
Tried Edwin's setup in this race. Usually his sets are easier to drive but this time it was quite hard, but in some way those oversteer situations were a bit easier to control. But once again I spun and lost many places. I decided to pit early and not to repair light suspension damage. Then I was able to drive without mistakes, but quite slow laptimes. As expected I gained many positions by pitting early, and towards the end of the race I was able to steal John Cook's 2nd place when he made a mistake. He was right behind me and in an overtake attempt we made contact and he lost a second or two.. I thought I was able to bring home 2nd place but my rear tires were terrible and gave me absolutely no grip... I lost it in the very fast left hander (Abbey?) and lost 2nd place to John Cook. With very small margin I could keep Rick behind me through the chicane leading to the checkered flag, but once again I had the uncontrollable oversteer, and spun into the pitlane where I finished in 4th........

Very bad weekend for me. Having a good setup and nice times I hoped to make some good race, but not.

Qualy: P5 with a high 23.

Race 1: Was in P3 at the end of lap 1, then, decided not to fight and let pass Riknau and Hedlund (ja ja). I decided to make an early pistop, drop to P11 but, when exiting pits, my rear tire crashed with pace car made a spin and lost many seconds. P7 in the end after recovered the calm.

Race 2: Full of mistakes, I decided to quit when broke pit speed limit and got sanctioned with a stop&go.

Qualy
-------

I beat my personal best by a few tenths making it a 1.25.5 or similar only enough for a penultimate place.

Race 1
---------
At the start the car in front didn't move and I had to brake hard, Ricky behind couldn't brake on time and gave me a little push, putting me in the grass and causing some suspension damage on the rear. Race was uneventful, driving a slightly damaged but still driveable car. By the end of the race I was trying not to lose the gap to Edwin who had just passed me two laps earlier. Suddenly during the final lap the game freezed (car sound still on) for around 12 seconds or so. When it all recovered Edwin's car was no longer there. I check the times and Edwin happened to be 13 seconds ahead. Just went to cross the finish line and end the race in what it seemed to be an 8th place but xml seems to say it was a nineth.

Race 2
---------
Started third with the idea to give some battle to the powerfull Eves but at the end of the final corner I spun just as Rick did on race 1 (looks like wingless cars don't like that corner) hitting the wall and damaging the rear right wheel.
Car was difficult to drive and I was able to hold it for another 12 laps but finally lost it on the braking for the final chicane, kissing the grass and not being able to brake hitting the barriers at the end. Car got badly damaged, tried to head for turn 1 but the car was undriveable, so I retired the car.
