Autumn Modern Porsche League presentation
#1
In SR4L we proudly present the Autum Modern Porsche League.

Poll:
I've added a poll so you can choose between doing rain in the modern league if forecasted (Paul would set the parameters before restarting the server on sunday afternoon according to the weather forecast at the announcement post), or doing as always, race temps/clouds with no rain at all even though forecasted.

Rules:
-The car we will be racing will be Flat 6 Porsche.

-Sunday events will consist of:
--2 hour Practice session with race weather conditions
--30 minute Qualifying session with race weather conditions
--7 minute Warm up session with race weather conditions
--Race 1 (grid set from qualifying)
--7 minute Warm up session with race weather conditions
--Race 2 (grid set from Race 1 results)

-Damage:
Damage will be set at 50%

- Races:
All races will be a standing start having a formation lap. (Drivers leading the formation lap will drive in a way they don't cause trouble to the cars behind. Avoid brake testing, use throttle and brakes at the same time if you want to warm up discs)
Race length will be set in laps and will be calculated the closest to a 30 minute duration.
Race 1 grid will be set after qualifying results.
Race 2 grid will be set after race 1 results (I think rfactor 2 does this automatically after race 1 ends and warm up is restarted, correct me if I'm wrong please)
Pitstops are optional, being normally used just for repairs.

-Points:
All drivers crossing the finish line will take points in each race:
1st place: 20 points
2nd place: 18 points
3rd place: 16 points
4th place: 14 points
5th place: 12 points
6th place: 10 points
7th place: 9 points
8th place: 8 points
9th place: 7 points
10th place: 6 points
11th place: 5 points
12th place: 4 points
13th place: 3 points
14th place: 2 points
15th place: 1 point
No points will be awarded after qualifying or race fastest laps (to prevent a very good driver from getting way too many points).

Tracks:
[To be announced]
League will consist of 8 events-16 races.
Tracks raced will be the same as those chosen for the classic league with two exceptions:
-If there's a modern version of the same track, the modern version will be raced.
-If for some reason a track doesn't suit the Flat 6 Porsche an alternative track from the same country will be picked up beforehand.

Calendar:
[To be announced]

I'm probably missing many rules or setting things completely bad. Please correct me/give your opinions.

I really don't want to run a series in these awful cars. Do you want my suggestions anyway?

About rain - it is an absolute fact that the main effect of the rain is to destroy visibility for following cars. Not at all fun.

What is the idea of this series? Realism? Then turn rain on and be sure to set damage at 100%!!!

Dan always so positive.
I don't want the modern league to be simply a clone from the classic one. That's why I want to make things a bit different.

Please help me understand. Why do you want to run a modern car series? I like our league for the old cars, not new ones. I would also like to see another poll: yes or no do you want to drive the Enduracers Flat 6 mod for this series? So far the comments in this forum have been "These cars are not very good/fun. There are many better options."

The reason I seem negative is it bothers me when series ideas seem to spring forth from some smoke-filled back room, and commentary on the viability of said series is ignored. If you really love the cars and think a modern Porsche Cup clone is the way to go, say so. Are league members clamoring for Porsche Cup? Lets hear from more people!

Y'alright guys long time no see!

Been looking around for a league to race in , sadly there is not much to choose from.

Sounds like your gonna be running 2 leagues or something on alternate weeks. This Porsche 917 is a rare thing, it is a good 3rd party mod! If you end up running the 917 on one of them weeks you can count me in, will be good to race with you boys again Smile

About the rain, many good arguments can be made to put rain on, and just as many against. At the end of the day, take it from me, rain kills any league it's just so simple as that. You will lose drivers as time goes by because of it. Basically the decision comes down to this, do you want to experience rain conditions more than you want avoid to losing drivers? So in the end - in simracing reality - it does not come down to rain vs no rain, it come down to rain vs healthy league. I am sure of that!

Great job with everything here Gorka, I have not been dropping in much but the place is definitely a lot livelier than when you stepped in 8). I am pretty fussy about mods else I would race here every season.

Dan, from my experiencie this years, if we make polls for everything we end up racing mainly the same type of car at the very same tracks.
That option still remains available in the classic league as I see some of our members are not good friends of changes. We let them chose the car, the type of races (people asking to go back to the 2x30 min races and so we'll do) and the tracks.
But on the other hand I think we also have drivers who alongside the classic material want to race other stuff. The modern league comes as a way of experimenting in that subject. I think it worked fine for the USF2000 so I've taken all the liberties to arrange it for the Flat6 Porsche.
It may not be the best car out there for rFactor2 but it has a couple of interesting things: It can bring close fun races and it's simple to setup.

If I see races are no success I'll understand my creativity does no good for our community and I will move back to the usual polls for the next leagues (what in fact is a way easier work for me).

Nothing like that Dan, not even close.

Gorka was assigned by Paul to arrange and be responsible for the races, based on his experience, as, usually, there is not much time (in the case of fun races) or much will to discuss everything in detail, and he is doing his job exelently imho.

The proof that he alone takes the decisions, is, that me and the others from the staff try to influence the decisions to our liking, the same way you all members do, by posting at the threads here.

Usually the main dish is the regular passworded races, and Gorka was asked by me to speed up discussion as its getting late and season must start quickly as we all getting restless.

Whetever though, any member here has the right to start a thread or/and a poll about whatever he feels should be done, and I urge you to start one with your views so we can discuss them.

Be sure that discussions like that, help enormously the staff to make up decisions.
