When I practice off line my +/- sec comparison meter gets messed up. I can go off track and lose 2 sec against my best lap. The meter will show the loss seemingly correctly but then a few turns later it might say I'm a half second up. This can't be right, I did no heroic time recovery. Or it might show me to be, say, 2 sec up near the end of a lap but when the time posts it is in fact a slower than the best lap. Makes it real hard to progress.

Has anybody else seen this? I've never noticed this before. Might it be track related?

I’ve not driven this track but delta timing issues are far from rare at third party tracks.

Cruicky alluded to this track having pretty lax corner-cut detection - I wonder if they’ve been a bit lazy with the creation of the ‘corridors’ and racing line. Not much we can do about it in a timely manner or without permission to modify the track anyway.

Dunno if alternative solutions such as CrewChief overlays or SimHub overlays/dashes would work but if the delta data is being generated by rf2 itself, you’re stuck.

One possible tool is to turn on the ghost car though…? You can configure it to sync either at the beginning of your lap or the end and also choose (from memory) if it uses your best or last lap. I always found it really distracting if your current lap aligned with the ghost though…. Worked better if you have big areas to improve upon.

I've not said a word about cut detection for this track, you have the correct person or track? o_O

Yes.
One of the reasons it could happen is if you do a fast time but on that lap you have had a cut and lap time not counted message. Even though lap time is not counted, the delta tracker still records that as your fast lap even though it is void. No idea if they have fixed this bug. I'm not saying this is what you had, but this is one reason.

I've suspected it might be related to cutting the track. There are plenty of places to "trim" corners here though I've not noticed a lap-not-counted message. I will watch more closely. I need to find seconds and have been repeatedly disappointed when what seems like a fast lap doesn't post as an improvement. And the way the delta meter can sometimes show a miraculous recovery from an off is what really triggered my suspicion. Though that might be because the reference lap itself had a very sloppy moment in it. (I am pretty sloppy here.) Noticed it late last night and was too tired to dig deeply into it.

We raced here on multiple occasions so I don't know why it would crop up now.

Thanks for the suggestion. I hope I can figure it out without more fiddling with software.

Will it be down to to track to decide if someone is cutting the track or will admins be watching

Myles is on holiday at the moment so unless he has remote access to the server from his holiday location, it will be Saturday at the earliest for server to be upgraded to the new rfactor build.
For now if you need to practice on the server, please downgrade to 'Previous Release' in beta.
He has not said where he has gone but there is a clue under his name, a Portugal flag Big Grin. He could be bobbing up and down on Jonathan Rarity boat Big Grin.

The Admins are always watching Dan Wink. It's just the normal white lines rules for Japan.
This includes the warmup lap too. This means you can not cut the final Chicane before starting your lap to get a speed boost down the start finish straight. This was done once in one of last years league events and is not permitted. This will be clearly seen on a qualify merge.

There might be different rules for the Mexico race, more info on that soon.

Will we definitely be racing the new version? It changes some settings (sound settings for sure) so it might require some fiddling to get back to one's norm. Don't know if anything else changes. If we're definitely going to race the new version I will upgrade now (I'm currently downgraded) and fore-go practicing on the server.

That said, the server's track version vs the off-line version that I have installed has some variation. I think particularly the chicane just before the start/finish straight. (no array of curbs?) Don't know if there are any other variations.

There are 8 layouts for this track, we are running the International layout. Maybe you have a different one loaded Big Grin .

New sound system, some car mods now sound bad, but luckily our F1 car mod still sounds ok'ish.
I've been keeping eye on the S397 forum, I don't think there have been any game breaking problems with new build so far. New Sparks can make stutters for some but that can be turned off now. Keep an eye on this thread as to what build Myles will run when he gets back.

I don't care which rF2 version. I just think we should commit to one or the other before Saturday. Actually, re-reading your first post, it looks like you're saying we will use the upgrade. But I will stay posted to see how it goes.

Hello campers!

Yes, I’m in Portugal this week.

I definitely can’t run the Wed night races myself but the server will be up and either a local admin or the combined attendees can vote sessions through etc - but there’ll be no reverse grids as it’s a faff manually and I use an app that requires server access.

Lemme see if I can upgrade the servers - it’ll be a slight chore on this phone, but…

Done. Looks ok from my remote end. I’ll be out all day though so any problems/rollback might need to wait 24hrs. Please *do* let me know if it looks ok though.

DJC - can you update any public notices/shoutbox as necessary. Ta
