Night Race discussion:

Please feel free to comment

S397’s Zandvoort 2021 v2.61 track is probably the best night-optimised track in existence - it is spectacular to look at and has no obvious issues with frame rate drop outs…

…but not everyone‘s PC is built equally and we are aware that some monitors struggle to differentiate shades of black making driving tricky at night!

Can you please give the track a go and feed back via the poll whether you have technical issues at Zandvoort at night. The emphasis of our leagues is enjoyment - we will run this as a daytime race if necessary.

Cruicky has provided the link below to test your black levels - let us know what the darkest transition level is you can determine (I.e. the first number where black becomes a grey/gray)

Why Zandvoort?

Mystery Track#2 was always intended to be at….

….Bathurst!

But although Bathurst *is* a challenge, the risk of a processional race with annoying track-blocking incidents is too high.

Zandvoort, by contrast, is not such a knife-edge but provides an intense driving experience with multiple, genuine overtaking opportunities and should make for a cracking race.

Fuel usage has been bumped up to force an R2 pit stop - a final roll of the strategy dice!

I've set the server to fixed time (i.e. no clock progression of lighting) and P1, Q1, warmup and Race to slightly different times so that people can see what is acceptable.

Unfortunately the ability to run multiple P sessions is bugged (or I can't find the right settings) - the start times of P2/3/4 and durations are not respected otherwise I could set a complete range of times to test.

Everything looks good here, lovelly atmosphere, way much better than Willow, obviouslly.
RFactor2 is the only sim so far that have the updated version of this track with the banking of the last corner.

Right. I’ve spent some time trying to find the crossover point whereby a session will start just before dawn and end (for R2 at least) in daylight.

Plan-A is to start sessions at around 6:45AM and run at twice click-speed. The sun start to rise around 6:50ish and by 7AM there should be enough light to see (but headlights might still be enforced by the system).

Please note - there *is* an auto-headlight feature in the rf2 client settings these days (I think you’ll find it near the other assists etc. in the settings menu). There shouldn‘t be any reason for DNQs and DNSs etc. if you set auto lights on.
