I also like the idea. BUT I think it must be implemented by ISI. It will be a pain in the a** for admin/league marshall to check everyone.
We cannot prohibit using ESC in quali. What if I want to do a change to setup? Take out some fuel? Loaded wrong setup by mistake before leaving garage?
Just as an example, how could anyone check the crash that happened to me in race 2 at Essington? I wrote about it in my race report. It was a big impact but I got no damage at all. Anyone who look at the replay will suspect damage. Imagine if this happened in the quali instead, with these rules applied? Anyone would suspect that I escape to garage to repair damage if would had left track in that case. I think it would simply add mistrust between drivers and marshalls even if this is a very friendly small community.
Like I said, it must be implemented as an option by ISI that we cannot use ESC to enter garage (or if damage is too big so we cannot continue at all, we can use esc but are not able to return to track after doing so). We can only enter garage by stopping the car at our pitspots. And IF we have damage when we do so, we have to wait for it to be repaired until we can enter garage/join track again.

But well... I guess it would be possible with a total prohobition against using ESC in quali. You can choose to leave garage whenever you want to, but then you can not enter garage again until you are happy with your laptime. Repairs can be done just like in race. We have to take in to account how much fuel we add, and might need to enter pits for refuel before quali is over.
This sounds very hardcore... but I think it could work. But there are some issues of course. For example, if someone is disconnected/game ctd, can he enter server and join the quali again? Who can assure it was not intentional because he wanted fresh tires/remove some fuel etc?? Is he not allowed to join quali again after his ctd? Well rf2 is not very stable atm... it could be unfair too.

But then you will lose the duty to repair as in race...
anyway, better something than nothing, complete esc prohibition could be even more thrill

Aha... Ok, I see...
But I can see some issues with allowing esc only in pits too. If I damage my car, it still won't take me very long to bring the car to pit and then press esc. Only a few seconds or max 1-2 minutes, in a long quali session of 30 minutes. So I don't think that would prevent the "sloppy" quali attempts.
But however, I think it could increase the amounts of accidents around the track when a driver is not allowed to press escape when he, after his crash, is standing in the middle of the road. He will sure ruin someone's hotlap. Or just imagine someone trying to bring his heavy damaged car back to pits... They are not easy to handle sometimes and maybe he will be zigzagging all over the track and ruin someone's hotlap :o I can see many possible issues.
I appreciate when someone is quick to press escape when crashing in front of me, and I try to do that myself, so I do not ruin it for other drivers :-\

sure when you stay wrecked on the track you have to hit esc immediately. but the session finished for you, you can not return to the track
regarding returning with damaged car - the same situation as in race. The driver in the damaged car has to manage his return safely. He has to consider the situation, whether to give up or try to return. Of course there is an impact on another drivers - that is life. Yes maybe your PB will be wasted - like IRL.
for first look seems to be too many if. I can say only I have good experience with such system (on race07 platform) I can not remember an issue. of course there is a demand on drivers level, you can not expect it would work on public server, this can succeed only in closed communities/leagues
and take my posts only as a support for that orginal request and sharing experiences. really not any ambition to force strange habits which are not common in this community

what about the 12 laps limit?
it's a first step and ISI support it

Isn't it very unrealistic to be able to destroy 50 cars during qualifying?
Good food for thought.
Another next step could be Race Director announcing the track to be raced on that event, like maybe 2 hours prior to the race.
I mean, spending many hours crashing cars and having testraces with your buddies the weeks prior to an event isn't very realistic too, is it? ;D

I'm not against some kind of quali regulations, but...
First of all, I can't really see the point in forcing people to return to pit before hit ESC. It makes more sense if we had to repair the car, but if it's all about reaching pit and then press ESC and instantly have a repaired car, I don't think that will add much to the gameplay except more accidents, like I said.
And I can't see the point with 12 laps limit. First step to what? To add some need of tactics during quali, so people have to "save" hotlapts until the very last minute when track provides most grip?
Nah....
Like I said, it would be awesome if we were not able to use ESC at all (except when car totally destroyed, but then your quali is finished), and we could only enter garage by parking our cars like when we do pitstops, and if we have any damage it has to be repaired before you can leave again.

all is about personal/community preferences. some people prefer liberal rules, more "game" less "sim", some opposite. unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) our hobby never will be the same as the reality. so ever it will be only playing where the rules should be between game and sim/reality
Mr. Thazio would like to restrict q to enhance sim aspect and offered some proposals and thoughts. me and some other people too. I have no clue how many would be interesting.
I think it is task for admins, race directors, site directors, generally all responsible persons to make some decisions: to respond to request or not, if respond then push and manage the discussion or finish it, they can use their experiences and do some estimations/considerations...
however this series will be interesting for me also if nothing changes. it has high quality as is. sure carefulness in changing rules needed. maybe a try could help to decide...

To any of the leaders I may have held up when being lapped in the first race, I apologize. I understand fully the requirement to allow a pass as soon as it can be safely done. I can honestly say I simply did not notice any blue flags on my screen. In the second race I knew where to look and had a heightened awareness and definitely saw them. I won't commit that foul again.

My race could have been a lot worse as I had a few technical difficulty's during the event.
Qually went very well, surprised myself getting a lap time half a second faster than any I had done before. 3rd on the grid.
Race 1
Tried following Marcel and RikH the best I could but they were just too fast for me, luckily I was puling away from RobbertH and thinking if all goes well a nice 3rd place will be mine. But then my luck started to run out, my screen goes black for a second or 2, no joke, I've had this before, all I could see for a second was just the HUD and the name tags above peoples cars. Missed the corner by a meter and found myself driving on the grass and lost the place to Robb. Then after that before the pits I thought my net was about to go down as all the cars would vanish for a few seconds and come back again. That happened 3 times, so I was driving worried (this happen with you lot?). Bart was very quick behind but I gained lots of time on him in the pits and he was no longer a threat no more. Surprised as my pit was a slow 51 seconds. Me finished 4th.
OK now for the biggest race of the night, more technical difficulty's. At the end of race 1, I though I would do a quick F12 screen shot of the results, but I think I was a bit to late as the game had just started loading in the track again ready for race 2. As I sat there watching the loading screening I noticed the loading bar moving very slowly. After waiting 2 mins the bar had only moved a few centimeters. This is not right and started trying to kill rfactor. I could do nothing, could not Alt tab, or 'Crtl Alt and delete', nothing. Ended up having to press reset on PC. Had to wait for windows to load. Then found my net was gone, so reset my Modem (sometimes have to do this after a reboot, don't know why). At this point I'm in a big panic. Takes a while for modem to give me my connection. Launching rfactor2, grey icon, close and try again, grey icon, close and try again. Finally I'm in the lobby. Quickly type in the password, then load load load. Looking at clock, has 10 minutes passed? load load load!! quick quick quick!!. Loaded just in time, room still in warm-up with 0 seconds left on the clock everyone saying good luck, phewww!. I filmed myself see video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScA7PhDJPJE .
Later I found out why the track loading with so slow. In my screen shot folder I found 35 screen shots all of the same of the loading screen :o. If I had not have reset my PC think it would have filled my hard drive with screen shots lol. Never had that before :o.
Race 2 (or race 3 if the above counts as a race)
Marcel and Riks reports cover most of this, so in brief: Race begins with no rubber on the track, was all patchy (this was because of me just joining the room), so was all slip and slide everywhere. Brake peddle was binding on lap 1 (problem I have with peddles), so had Marcel biting at my tail. Slowly carving through the traffic, I did well to avoid the cars dropping out of the sky (bart) , but all that work was lost when I took to the grass trying to overtake around the outside of Nikos. Second half of race had a train of fast drivers behind me wanting my place. My tyres were jelly so they could keep biting. Race was as Marcel said in his report. Was fun.
Thanks for hosting Marcel.

DjC I also had those moments where everyone disappeared from screen three times on race 1, I was scared I was about to get a "Connection Lost" message at that time (first one when two cars exited from early pitstop just in front of me, luckily when they appeared back they were behind)
About the black screens, this has happened to me also other times, but only when I ALT-TAB and go back to rFactor2. Fortunately I never do that during online sessions as my rFactor2 freezes when trying to ALT-TAB back if I'm not the only one on track.

Wow... I guess that happened because you hit screenshot key just when track was about to be reloaded? Very lucky to be able to join the race. Many important championship points could had been lost there
The black screen problems sounds like the same as I'm getting with the GP79 mod (exclusive that mod) ??? Found any solution yet? Disable HDR helps for me.

When I watched the replay, I saw that you did your pitstop very early. Smart move there, because you were in front of me, Marcel and Gorka when we 3 had done our pitstops Good job to hold Marcel and Gorka behind you rest of the race, I must say :o But no way I was going to stay behind you :

It did happen to me too during Essington race.
