Sim Racers 4 Life welcomes you to Season 5 of our Historic's League. After four seasons driving open wheelers, this season we take a little step forward in history and get to drive the historic Lola T280, a car that provides both a powerfull engine and adjustable wings.
This twelfth event will take place on July the 19th in Watkins Glen. Watkins Glen is known for its constant changes in elevation and endless high and medium speed corners. This will demand a big effort to the front tires, mainly the left front which can be gone in a few laps if car is pushed too hard.

The event will be a classic 2x30 min races. Having the second race reversed grid for the top ten finishers of the first race.

Special Pit Instructions

When entering the pits remember to stay at the right and remain inside that lane until entering the pits. This will help other drivers around to see your intentions and avoid incidents in the final curve of the track.


When exiting the pits do not go to the left until you have completely crossed the white line to avoid incidents with cars coming out of turn 1.


Special chicane Instructions

To avoid cutting the chicane after turn 2 remember that at least two tires must always be on the tarmac withing the track limits.

Hi all,

after missing the last couple races due to unusual amount of travelling, I have to make another apology for absence. I will miss Watkins Geln as well because I will be on the Island of Paros (yep, in Greece, of all places!) enjoying the Sun, the Sea and a rental Scooter when the race starts. See, I am serving my european duty while that whole desaster is still not solved! Wish me luck for my journey into the unknown (It'll be fine, I am sure). I wish you all the best for the race in exchange

that is the entry/exit gate for competitors.. this weekend, that will be for us

adding another photo. my son took this shot from the spotter's stand in pit lane. that is the start/ finish line and this was on Friday's test session. we ran Friday morning on the short course and Friday afternoon on the long course. then Saturday we did our qually and race sessions on the long course (in the rain). sunday we did the same on the short course (nice - sunny day).
the event is called the "Fun One" we had 54 formula cars in our group, from Formula A's to Formula Vee's. 19 formula fords, split in 2 class's. we ran club ford that weekend and there were nine cars in our class. I finished 3rd on Saturday, 4th on sunday - all of this with a motor that was down on power cause of bent valves. our spare head was not taken :-\
with all those cars, I was being lapped while lapping others - INTENSE! also, the draft there was AWESOME. you heard the motor rpm's go up and you had to lift or you would run into the guy. then right before the Bus Stop Chicane, you would pop out and pass........ ;D
now I won't be able to sleep tonight :o

How does RF2 Glen feel in comparison with the real thing Jerry

The 70's version of the Glen is pretty close to the long course that I ran as far as layout, pits and the view from up on the hill. as mentioned above the chicane is different. in RF2 I do not remember turns 1 & 8 being as blind, yes there is a hump, but I could see braking zones a lot sooner IRL. traction and feel seem way different at any track we race then IRL, especially here - and really especially in turn 9. IRL I was cooking thru turn 9 section, in RF2 if you bobble just a bit you lose mega time. in the pits, all those cement garages are gone, but the layout is the same. pit entry and exit are the same. so, yes it is close
The tracks sits high on a hill - from the spotter area or grand stands in turn one you can look down into a really picturesque valley and see the lake. this is in the finger lakes region in the state of new York. the race use to be held in the town of Watkins Glen thru the streets until moved here. By far it is my favorite track that I had raced..

Regarding the chicane and keeping two tires on the tarmac... I have found it very deceiving from the cockpit. I drive what I would swear is a (barely) legal run over the bumps but in replay it isn't even close. Part of it is the fact that the cockpit is not on the centerline of the car. But even allowing for that, my mind's sense of the car chassis is just wrong. Everyone should look at some replays to see how they're doing.

What is really curious for me is that the chicane is there to slow things down to take the next left hander slowly.
In reality, you tend to look for a way to take the chicane straight through, this causes the car to lift and you end up in a more dangerous situation than if chicane wasnt there.

To me it looks more dangeorus a bump that you can find after the chicane, or at least I always seem to find it.

How I approach it is taking it easy in Turn2 and so I can get a better exit out of the chicane and be early on the throttle.
I lose some speed while on turn 2 just enough to keep the car on the line and avoid being wide.
