Was kind of hoping we'd be racing these cars next season Smile
When in doubt, pass out.

What sort of start is it? Standing or Formation / Rolling?

It will be Standing. I'd love it to be Rolling but in such a long track I fear incidents that would lead to trouble prior to race start.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like we'll be getting much of a grid this evening, so will be skipping this one.

The track / mod- combo is great though, hoping to see these in the future with a decent turnout.

Despite a small grid, this was very good fun, and a big challenge. Will post a report and some screenies tomorrow.

I had a lot of fun and a great fight with David Hart until the hub of my steering wheel unscrewed at the 2nd hour. I decided to use my F1 steering wheel for this race but unfortunately I did not squeeze the small screw.

I put the steering wheel back but the buttons did not respond, I had to give up.

Congratulations to the pilots present!

it was a small grid with 7 starters and 3 survivors in the end but that did not make it any less fun.
Thanks for all who came. I am really happy to have made it to the finish line. I should have invested more time in the fuel math as I got something wrong when I tried a few minutes before start leading to the fafteful idea that saving fuel would be the winning strategy. Maybe it was and I was just too slow still. Whatever, looking forward to the next races. Is anything lined up already?

Good fun event and enjoyed racing with JPS until "mechanical failure" intervened. Thanks for putting on, these cars need that sort of length of race otherwise the BOP makes no sense at all.
Did notice that the rear tyres, I was using the sprint ones with no change during the race, lost interest in going forward once below 70% which luckily was my last lap, fronts still seemed fine at around 60%.

I really had the intention of taking part in the race, but sunday was completely busy with family birthdays.

Future season still to be discussed, expect it to start on september. In the meantime I'll try arranging fun events once every while, depending on demand.

Le Mans Race Report

The grid was (almost) fully packed

Nevertheless, the first lap already proved to be adventurous on the very cold tyres.

Battles ensued...

..into the afternoon...

..into the evening...

..where tiredness started to hit...

..into the night...

For others it was lonely in the forest, but luckily there's always a bar open somewhere Smile

Now, at this point it's interesting to start talking strategy.

I was expecting to do a 3-stop with the Sauber. However, with slow refuel rates and tyre changes, a 2-stop could save up to 120 seconds. I dropped my boost to a low level to barely make this work. Meanwhile the leaders were storming off into the distance, and no way I could keep that pace. They must be on a 3-stop... they must be!

But no... they stopped the same lap as I did while being multiple seconds per lap quicker! It turns out this Sauber is just extremely thirsty.

To make up for some lost time, I double stint the tyres. This turned out to be another mistake, as by the end of the second stint I was suffering quite a bit. To make matters worse, the invisible bump in the curbs at Tertre Rouge made my car jump into the air...

This caused some damage, but I was able to continue.

If it weren't for 2 laps later, in the same corner, disaster struck...

But this is Le Mans damnit. I wasn't going to let it end here. Limping back to the pits for repairs I found myself dead last in... well... 3rd place Smile

And after a very long night, the sun finally showed itself again.

Alas... this is Le Mans, and that doesn't mean we're there yet!

The terrible pain of losing positions when you're stuck in the pits

Yours truly was back into second position, one lap down on the leader.

After a quick splash and dash in the final lap... by tinkering with the boost a bit too much... the finish line for the three remaining cars in this amazing event Smile

This race was absolutely brilliant despite being with very few cars.

Although I spent the better of the 2 hours driving around alone, it was still amazing to work on the strategy during the race, keep it together when the sun sets and visibility goes to zero, manage the car through the 'long' night, seeing your opponents approaching from behind while attempting to balance the boost and fuel to keep ahead, and finally make it across the line.

I hope we can have another similar event with more drivers showing up, as these cars are awesome and it's just great fun to do an endurance race Smile

Just don't pick the Sauber unless there's some proper BoP Big Grin
