rF2 BMW-M1 Autumn League (8 Races)
#1
We welcome you to the:-
SR4L rFactor 2 BMW-M1 Autumn League

At long last we are starting a new league with the BMW-M1 car.
With kind permission from the original author Arnaud Plume, we have made a special SR4L league version giving the car some improvements over the original. Car handling, physics plus a new Push To Pass system are some of the changes. A Big thank you to Myles for all his work.

Please use same driver name for all events so your points will be calculated correctly.

Server Name: !SR4L-1 Fall23
Server will be passworded on race day.

Special Rule:
Mandatory pit stop. At least 1 pitstop must be done in the race changing all 4 tyres.

Push2Pass Button
Myles will probably want to give a more detailed description on how the Push2Pass system works, but for now here is a brief explanation by me:-

Under braking, the car Regenerates power to it's battery.
There is a new dial on the dashboard that shows the battery level (see picture below).

Press the Push2Pass button to deploy the battery energy to help overtake a car. You can press it again to stop the deployment if you don't want to use it all in one go. See screen shot below where to set the button:-

The downside of this system, it makes braking more harder. It's easier to lock up. For this reason in the setup page you can chose different levels of regeneration. A smaller number braking is easier but your battery takes longer to recharge. A higher number the battery recharges quicker but it's easier to lock up your rear tyres.

Please note the Push2Pass button is disabled in Qualify sessions. It is only available in practice and race.

Good Luck and have fun.

This development of this car has been an epic labour on and off over the last two years or so - I hope you’ll like it as much as I do.

I will publish a series of explanatory notes about the car over the next week or so - covering the KERS system, setup options and driving style etc.

Car link will be released Monday 2nd, hopefully. I have a sneaky feeling KERS needs to be disabled for Qualy…

Mediafire car link v2.01

Absolute minimum notes for now:

i) Default setup is a very good start. It’s what I run.
ii) KERS regen is defaulted to level 4 of 6. Map an in-car control to this. Also map brake balance to an in-car control. Be prepared to go to maybe 60:40 F:R at Level 6 regen.
iii) There is an option in the pre-load Configuration screen (where you choose the car) to make the SR4L banner invisible from inside the car - feel free to maximise your view.

Yesterday i put the car on the server for a test run... the car spin a lot with KERS set to 60... with this configuration any hard tap than usual on the brake is a spin out for sure...
I'll try tonight with the KERS set to 40.
See you on track!

Hi @MSCardoso , once you have used the push to pass you need to adjust brake bias forward as @Myles (Mr Fox) has explained in his post on KERS. It may be quicker to not use push to pass at all.

So push to pass can be used only once? Or you mean after use set the balance to 60:40 until the charge is complete?
Another question... How can i change the flag under my name? Can't find any option in my profile page... thanks in advance .

Yes, the effective brake balance only changes when you recharge (regen) the battery.

You can deploy the motor whenever you have battery power (as many times as you like and you can stop deployment before the battery is empty). Our last version of the car had a specific time limit - once you”d used it, that was it.

This version of the car uses a rechargeable battery.

If the battery is full, you should be able to run 58:42, say (your personal driving style might decide the actual numbers).

You aren’t forced to regen the battery - if you adjust the in-car regen to level 1 (of 6), it won’t try to recharge and so your brake balance will be ‘normal’. If you use regen levels 2-6, you will recharge the battery and start to drag the rear wheels when doing so. It’s up to you to decide whether you can live with this or need to adjust brake balance forward until the battery is full enough to use effectively again.

To recap, this is part of the ‘earn it’ ethos. If you want to build up a charge to deploy in an overtake, you will have to manage the recharging system and the effect it has on braking. No pain, no gain!

Hope that helps.

Final note: the battery capacity and motor strength have been chosen so that there is no clear answer as to whether you should take the easier life of not bothering to recharge it - or put the effort (and risk) in but gain the punch every lap or two.

Also, just a reminder from the setup guide - you are unlikely to be able to easily lock up the front wheels - the brakes just aren’t that good! The default setup works for me but 60:40 might work for you even when regen isn’t occurring.

Also, if you’ve not done so already, check out the ‘driving style’ post here: http://www.simracers4life.com/forum/inde...s/cars.45/ in particular.

The general advice is to brake in a straight line and sort yourself out *before* the corner.

That's a valuable hint... i'll try... since i have to improve from 2:18 to at least 2:02 (is a long way to reach this objective)

Server will be using the Normal standard build of rFactor not the http://Release Candidate build for Sundays race.

Yes braking, I always mess up turn one, the road drops down in height half way in the braking zone and the turn-in is blind. Tricky to get right each time.
