Rules and tips for oval racing
#1
If these rules are updated, I'll add when and what at the bottom of this message.

Basic rules/recommendations for ovalracing at TWS:

1a.: I strongly advise you to press Tab to enable players tags above the cars. This way you'll be able to see the safetycar more clear when it pulls into pits and the player which you must follow at warmup lap will have a yellow nametag as well. (see #3)

1b.:Turn your mirrors on by pressing '3' key until you have the center and two outside mirrors in the top of your screen, this is a necessity as long as we don't have a working spotter.

2: Map buttons to look left and right (ingame>settings>controls>camera tab> look left/look right)

3: While doing warm up lap, stay in line of the grid position you started from, so either left or right, behind the player with yellow nametag. We call this ''doublefile''. Keep about a car's length distance.

4: Don't weave, zig zag or whatever you might call it, don't brake>pull up>brake etc. , it wont have much effect on tiretemps and causes unsafe situations.

5: You can start racing when the chatwindow comes up with 'Green flag!'
Overtaking before s/f is not allowed.
Therefore it's important that everyone but especially the frontrunners react to the chat message in time, if not the pack will bunch up and disaster will be more likely

6: When racing, try to avoid apron (Inside part of the track, left of the white line). It's not entirely illegal to run over the light grey, inside area of the track, simply because it's not always avoidable but since pitting drivers use that lane, it should be common practise to avoid at all times. Better safe than sorry.

7: If someone you try to pass is not appearing in center mirror, you did not complete the pass and he or she will probably still be at the left or right of you. Hold your line and leave room for your opponents.

8: When pitting, get on the apron as per screenshots:

pitlane speed limit starts here:

9: When exiting pit, stay on the apron and merge at the backstretch as per screenshots:

10: Again stick to the apron with 4 wheels as much as possible, if you do cross the line, make sure you at least attempt to tuck in again, failing to do so may result in a penalty

11: Don't overtake while on apron when you are entering or exiting pit. It may happen you having a slow car in front exiting pit but that's the risk of pitting and chosen strategy. Overtaking the car means crossing the line and is not allowed.

12. Patience is key.

15: Have fun!

Why? Is it illegal?

The apron is the lane drivers have to take for pitting. So it's safer to avoid apron at all times and make a habit of that unless you are heading for pit.
It's not entirely illegal because sometimes theres no other way but be aware of pitting or exiting drivers.

There's no speedlimit in the sense that you won't receive a penalty from the game afaik.
However, you must keep up with the car in front of you, you'll be doing that at approx. 80 kph.
I think it's better to be in 2nd gear at that point. That allows you to keep speed steady and stable acceleration when the flag drops. Smile

I'm starting up a discussion here.

My point (being one of the slower guys) is: when a fast guy(or girl Neela ;D) is behind in the race then the slow guy in front should keep his line and don't do unexpected things but be predictable. It's up to the faster guy to do the passing in a save way.

But the meaning about this point is not all the same from all the guy's i met on-line tonight.

So please Gents and Madels (girls) please share your vision about this point this is only a discussion when racing at ovals. at other tracks it's clear imo what to do being passed by a faster guy.

So come on and share your reactions so we can make a rule of it for sunday!!!!!

About the rolling start, from my experience, people don't know how to take one. You can explain clearly, but they don't know how to get on formation, accelerate when they are supposed to, etc... And I took a good amount on rolling starts on rFactor with different drivers around each time, and each time it was a mess.

Thanks for this Marcel......

one of your #'s that says 'patience is key' - should say - 'practice is key'.....

if not already- drivers may also want to consider using the 3 way virtual mirror-you can see more around you with the 3 mirrors

i find ....its very difficult to stay on one line around the corners- you start high and drop down on corner entry - then the car can move to the outside requiring a correction back inside - all of this means that passing a car going similar speeds in the corner is going to be very dangerous - people may want to consider passing on the straights only

finally-a safe prediction: - there will be accidents- slow the heck down when that happens please- there are likely to be flying cars in this race-

my 4 cents Smile

One hint we all should (me included) know about oval racing. If you don't know or are not sure about where the driver you're racing with is, asume he is just on your side so stick to your side of the road. After the curve you'll be able to see where he/she actually is.

We had a discussion with George about that and he has a point I dont know the answer, perhaps you do.

What happens at the moment safety car leaves track till green flag sign comes in?
Is there a speed limit then?

You cannot make a rule of it.
Only rules there are about passing is respect Yellow flag, respect Blue flag, dont block and dont race at your out lap.

The rest are left in your sensibility and your fear of crashing.

Overtaking the safetycar before s/f is not allowed, even when it already has pulled into pit, afaik.

Keep steady speed at approx. 80 kph until chatwindow pops up saying 'green flag!'

Important to know that you cannot overtake other cars before crossing de start/finish line (even when the green flag has been already waved), otherwise you'll get an automatic stop&go penalty.
