Final races for 2013. I've had a great sim-racing year and I do not regret that I joined this great league. I've had great fun.
For this event I started practicing for the race later than usual, and I've been struggling to keep up with Marcel and David the whole week.

QUALI

My main objective was to get below 1,52 and start in second row as worst. I was hoping that I could possibly split Marcel and Djc to take 2nd on the grid, which was the dream scenario because of the advantage of rubber on the outside. As time went by, Marcel was quickest and Gorka proved to be the greatest threat for my front row position as he was really fast! I took some fuel out and managed to do a great lap, 51,2, which gave me pole. A little surprised to be perfectly honest Smile

RACE 1

I was quick off the line and Marcel could not take advantage off the rubbered outside. He was breathing down my neck first lap. After that I managed to find a better pace although I think he was still a little faster than me. After a few laps we had built up a little gap to the drivers behind. On 5th lap, after first corner, I was thinking about my pitstop and overshoot my brake point for turn 2... I went wide and Marcel got past on the inside. Unnecessary mistake from me, but no panic and I could quite easily keep up with him for the next few laps until my pitstop arrived, at the end of lap 8. To my relief, Marcel continued one more lap and with a 46 sec pitstop I had the chance to make a ”undercut” manoeuvre to repair my mistake.

My first lap after pitstop was good, with no traffic. At the main straight next lap, I saw Marcel at the end of the pitlane, and I could take 1st position back and had a gap of 3 seconds or something. He was gaining on me for each lap but I think his tires were finished with a few laps left... And suddenly he disappeared from my mirrors and I could relax for the final laps and take the checkered flag 1st. Really pleased with the result.

RACE 2

Started from the back, and felt quite confident. Green lights and three cars collided in front of me, threwing Gorka off track, but I managed to get through unhurted, and so did Marcel and Djc. I was following them and felt that this could be a great fight. I knew Robert started from 2nd and it would be hard to catch him, but definitely a chance on the podium. I was unlucky when trying to overtake some slower guys and lost Marcel and Djc. At first corner on lap two, disaster struck... I did no notice that a braking marker sign was missing, and I did not notice I had braked way too late until I was on the grass... At this moment everything went slow-motion and thousounds of thoughts were running through my head, and before I hit the barrier hard, I saw 2 more cars on the grass and realised what had happened... I managed to crash the car somewhat straight into the barrier for minimum damage. When I was going to leave, Giorgio had made the exactly same mistake as me, and crashed into my rear, hard. He hit my left rear wheel and the car was heavily damaged! I could bring the car to my mechanics for a 203 sec repair + tire change and refuel. On my way to the pits I managed to take two more braking signs down... (lol sorry).

When my car was repaired, I was 14th and only reason to continue was to bring a few points home. Next lap, I made the same f****** mistake again! I could not believe it...... I crashed really hard into the barrier but this time I could rejoin the track with very light suspension damage. A very heavy car, damage, missing braking signs for 3 corners and still 15 laps to go was no easy task. I managed to bring the car to finish, one lap behind, finished 11th. Crap.

I think that we can all agree that this track is hard without the braking markers 8)

Anyway, I had fun tonight. Especially the first race because of the though fight with Marcel... Thanks Smile In the second Race, I missed out on the great fun. Can't blame anyone else than myself really... 100% concentration is needed all the time. Thanks for hosting this event, Marcel. And thanks to everyone who participated.

Merry christmas and a happy new year Wink
Looking forward to next race at Spa. Perhaps I'll make a little video review of that race. Btw will it be 1 or 2 races?

A bit of sweet and sour taste after yesterday races.

Qualy
-------
In all my offline test my fastest time had been a 1.51.9. At practice before qualy I couldn't find the pace and I was doing a 1:52.5, but suddenly at qualy there was a massive change in grip and I quickly went for a 1.51.5 which felt good enough to me and for third place (clean side of track) ahead of David (who I feel to be my biggest opponement in the championship after Robert's bad luck).

Race1
-------
Did a good start and went for a safe driving trying to look for the tires in the first laps. After a few Rikard and Marcel were about +2 seconds ahead and David 1 second behind. By then I started pulling away From David so I was confident for at least a 3rd position finish and aware of what could happen at pitstops.
At lap 8 David and Rikard went for their pitstops. A lap later Marcel and I went for ours. As grip during the first laps of the tires is quite good I was afraid David could overtake me in his outlap. Luckily my pitstop was 47sec and I was able to get out of pits just ahead of him.
Gap to David increase up to 4 seconds while Marcel was aroud 6 seconds ahead. Two laps to the end, on a moment of traffic I saw a car stopped in the middle of the track, another car on the right and a big puff of smoke. I was able to avoid them but on the manouvre I ended on the grass.
At that very moment I was too worried David could reach me and checking for the cars aroud I saw Marcel was one of the cars involved. As I was through the grass Marcel passed me back and David just came to my tail. My tires were a bit worn after pushing too hard to build the gap to David so I suffered quite a bit for the final lap to finally make it for a 3rd position podium finish.

Race2
-------
Here comes the sour flavour.
Getting ready for the start at the back of the grid I was thinking: "well, be carefull at the start, race is long and there's plenty of time to gain positions".
Race started, Mel ahead, David on the right. Did a good start behind Mel avoiding risks.
Then I saw a way too confident David trying to get through the middle of Mel and another car. "That can only end in disaster I thought", and so it happened. Cars' tires made contact and started an erratic dance through the track. My only posible way to avoid them was through the left, but that's just where they headed and I took the worst damage of the three. Both cars pushed me hard to the barriers causing me severe damage.
Very difficulty I managed to get to the pits and wait for 180sec for my car to be repaired. At this point my race was a lonely drive for 15 laps to finish in 10th pace.
Pretty angry about losing that many point to the guys ahead in what I felt as a completely unneccesary move.

PS: thanks for the cheering :Smile horn while I was at the pits

While it's still fresh in my head.

If someone's got replay files, please share :-)

== Practice ==

Not sure what was it, but I liked this track a lot from the start.
It felt very good driving there, even if I'm light years from the top pack.
My PB during practice sessions (on and offline) was 1.56.2.

== Qualification ==

Panicked when I disconnected to change options to get some more FPS for Q and Races, and found out I couldn't get in anymore...
Managed to get in after 5 minutes of tries. Will follow Nikos advice (do not get out) from now on.

Got close to my PB quite early in the session. By the end I managed to snatch a new PB (1.55.x) which I was very happy with.
Was nice to see my "pack" with me there (George, Edwin, Nikos, Vittorio), but then on his last lap Edwin managed to shave 1 second or so, and I was sad again :-) 12th place or so.

== Race 1 ==

What a disaster. Just after T2 my car was violently pushed off track by Jesus (and I don't mean the Christmas guy :-). Jesus explained later that he couldn't avoid me and apologized. Shit happens, don't worry Jesus. But there you go, last position and 20s or so behind everyone else. I swear silently inside myself and half a km later I get the dreaded "Connection lost". End of R1.

== Race 2 ==

Would have been pole, but asked to be put at the back. After a decent start, just before T1, a wreck materializes in front of me. I always try to be extra careful/frosty on L1, so I slow down, go easy. I see many cars crashing and dancing together, I dribble some, and then hope to avoid some more (I think George and Gorka), but I can't avoid George that comes crashing into my front. No fault of his, as he was already jumping around as result of a crash I believe. Will watch replay here, but I really think my accident wasn't G's fault.

Then we both try to get away (me and GM) and he bumps into my RL wheel, making me spin again. After all this mess, I'm again 20s behind everyone else and car is severely damaged in 3 points. Swearing again, I move on, carefully, thinking the car would be a wreck, but incredibly... no. Car is drivable, a xmas miracle :-)

I quickly pass George, and proceed lap after lap, no fast pace but decent and consistent. I see a few people stopped at pits for repairs, and I gain positions. At some point, at braking zone for T1, I miss the throttle while downshifting. Backend goes ballistic, car spins around not hitting anything (luck!) and Marcel just behind me manages to avoid my car. Sorry Marcel and well done.

By lap 10 I'm 7th or 8th or so. But I need to pit still. I try to get away with no damage repairs. Car is still very drivable, so I commit to the plan. No repairs, just tyres. I don't remember what happened during the last laps, but I ended up 9th, with a couple of minor mistakes touching the grass or small spins quickly recovered. I can do better :-)

Hi all,

Snetterton maybe is my worst race until today.....
First of all my apologies for the incident in 2nd lap of the 1st race, especially to Marcel about another bad time at the very last lap, again in the 1st race.

Guys I am very very sorry about that!!!!

Oualy
------------
I am on track only few minutes before the end of practice, so I can't have the max of knowlege (about new rig, track, setup etc.).
I manage to have a time near to my PB 1.57.xx and the 15th position on grid.

Race 1
-----------

I had a marvelous start and I was very lucky that I avoid a huge conflict in front of me at T1.
The end of 1st lap I was in 8th position with great confidence....but somewhere in 2nd lap (at T5 if I remember well), starts my personal disaster.

My car spin around from right to left unfortunately at the apex and the inside of racing line of that turn.
The result was to hit on me several cars consistently severe damages in my car. One more time SORRY guys, but everything happens very fast and I can't press the f.... esc button before the disaster.
I managed to get to the pits and wait for 313sec for my car to be repaired.

My effort for something good had just finished and if this does not happen with Marcel in the last round I would be happy with my 12th place.
(Very sorry again Marcel but I don't had any space and clear mind to avoid all this. I hope not to deprive you of a better place or even winning the race).

Race 2
-----------

I was bad mood, and even thought not to participate in race 2, so asked Marcel to put me in the last position on grid.
The race starts again well for me, but a few cars in front of me was again incident.
I was hit from tires, suspension and everything else was flying in the air, so my car spin at the left side hitting the Cosimo's car.
Sorry Cosimo but I can't do anything else.
Again in pits to repair my damages for 88sec.

In the middle of the race for a couple laps I was driving behind Nikos who had already passed me, but at the end of straight Nikos has brake earlier than the brake point so I decided not to hit him from behind and go straight to the barriers...

I managed to get again to the pits and wait for 190sec for my car to be repaired.
Finally happy with the 12th position again.

My Best Wishes to all of you for Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

Qauli-

I put in a PB to get a best ever 6th on the grid-

Race 1-

I went wide at t1 to stay clear of trouble and put a tire on the grass, spinning and losing several places-
I came around and managed to hit George who was stranded in the race line- I lost a wheel but hobbled back with George to the pits for a 300+ sec stop....rejoining 3 laps down but still happy to finish!

Race 2-

I was second and let marcel pass easily after 1 lap - I was surprised he had caught up and was at the front so easy and then on the next lap he missed a turn and I thought I had passed him again when he rejoined the race track - nope - we collided-

I had damage and pitted - so did mel- so mel and I did the rest of the race together after exiting the pits

Good results this week for NART.....lets see some scores!

Not so much practice during the week but I managed to build up a very confident setup for this event.

Qualy:
I made a 1:56,3 that put me at 13 position.

Race 1:
After a safe (a bit too much) start I was at last position with T1 still to come, I was waiting for the pack to take his pace, avoided an accident at 2nd lap and found myself at 9th position with Niko in front of me, there was a nice battle between us and after some laps I was in 8th position in one of the best races for me in this 60sF1 season. Thinking about that while driving and there came a mistake, at the last corner, so I get passed by Niko, Vittorio and an other driver. No damage and not so much time lost, I was tryng to keep the concentration and to continue with my "good" peace. After a couple of laps I lost connection and so the race.. Sad
Very disapointed for that, I was having a great fun.

Race 2:
Start at 2nd position (!), not my abitual place to start races. I managed to let pass all the fast dudes without risking so much. At 2nd lap (or 3rd) that missing distance marker made me hit the barrier with Hedlund allready there, sorry mate. Went to pit for a +300sec stop.
There my target became to only finish the race, at 13 position..

Very satisfied about all the drivers behaviour, I think we gained a good standart for a good season. Looking foward for the future.. Smile

Thank you all guys for an other great event and I wish you a merry Xmas and happy new year!
See you soon on track Wink

Big apologies for race 2 start, getting tangled up damaging a number of drivers as said in Gorkas report :'(.
I bit of a drop in numbers this race, we probably could have got away with not even adding exit pitspots as there was only 15 drivers.

Race 1
Started race in 4th and that is more or less where I stayed the whole race. There was maybe a chance of jumping Gorka for 3rd in the pitstops as he pitted 1 lap later. But on my out lap I encountered a slower driver that had not pitted yet and lost a bit of time, enough to overtake Gorka?, I don't know, that is the price you pay if you pit early. A bit later I drove off the track and lost more time. Finished 4th right behind Gorka and Marcel as they were recovering from a off.

Race 2
This is where my big sorrys come in. This is said already in Gorkas report. Race starts and almost straight away get myself in a bit of a sandwich, a Mel and Edwin sandwich, me the filling in the middle. It all would have all been fine as I was clearing them nicely but I touched Mel(who was now in my blind spot) with my left wheels, and that had me bounce into Edwin to my right. That made them both spin into more drivers behind including Gorka. Big mess, sorry again.
1 lap later I was up to 3rd and coming up to turn one with Marcel behind, then, as Rik said in his report, the missing brake signs!!!!, Well I was the 1st to not see one was missing and was 1st to drive straight off the track and into the wall, followed by lots of other people. With the sound of other cars smashing near me I was thinking quick lets get out of here. I bet Marcel was thinking "you dozy sausage" as he gained my position. Well at least I never did it twice like Rik did Big Grin.
Back on track with bent car I was on my way again. Not many laps later another part of the track now with missing brake markers, this time it's Marcel to make the same mistake. Found him in a tangle with Mel after Marcel rejoined track into him. I forgot to toot my horn as I drove passed them both Big Grin. Think he pitted that lap, I did my pit stop many laps later and I was surprised he was right behind me when I exited mine. I had decided not to repair my car in the garage so Marcel was keeping up with me no problem. With his early pit I think his tyres were going off so i gained a gap and finished 2nd.

Bring on the new year, and Let Battle Commence ;D

DJC

ps, sorry again.

The two weeks before this event i did some rubbering ??? of the track and in the mean time building me a nice set-up for the car as well.
With the Nords event still in my mind (ohw how i loved :-* it) i realised that i'm getting more and more addicted to this sport (some call it a game dunno why).
The practicing did do me end up with a pb of 1:55:6XX and all the time i focussed on Cookie who was faster all the time but a nice sparring partner next to my mentor Nikos who is also a stable factor every night. Along the way looked a lot at Marcel and DJ beating eachother up to better and better laptimes and learned a lott off that too.

Training:

I joined quite late and saw my teami struggle to get things working for him. Hector what happend ??? Did a few laps to warm up myself for the quali

Quali:

Went on the track with low fuel to set a good quali time. After a few laps i was on my pb and thought that would be the best possible to manage. In the last minutes off Q i decided to go for another spin with race fuel just to get comfortable with the extra weight and guess what.....shaved of 1 sec of my pb...... lmao. 8th start spot my best ever in simracing 8)

Race 1:

Had a great race first 3 laps or so being ahead of Mel but made a mistake wich didn't cost me a lot of time but ended up driving alone all the 17 laps. Had my pitsstop at lap 10 and only one i saw in pit was Nikos (honked at him). Ended 6st wich was a good result for me but all in all it looked a lot like a training session...good for the points though 8) (did i say points..which points Tongue)

Race 2:

Started next to Mel and made myself up for a great battle with him. Then with startlights going green me and Mel sandwiched DJ and all hell broke loose. Normaly my fantasies about sandwiching don't have 3 cars in them :Smile
started of second to last or so, just behind Gorka who unfortunately was a victim of the starting mayhem also. My car didn't have any damage so i tried to get some good consistent laps.
In lap 2 or was it 3 i became behind a Hedlund (Rikard as i know now) and i got past him, little detail he was limping back to the pit with damage but nevertheless i overtook a Hedlund ;D
All went well till lap 11, i had done my pitsstop (again lap 10) and was at the back of Mel in 7th place. Then T1 came and i missed my brake point completely and ended up in the barriers with my lf wheel in the meadow (mhoo).
I didn't want to limp back to the pit risking to ruin somebody else's race so i hit the f***ing esc button and watched the rest of the race from the pit.

Had again a great time though.
I'm very happy that i have purchased this sim and joined SR4L, you are all a great bunch of people.
Thanks for all the fun i had this year.
Wish you all a very nice X-mas and a great 2014 with all the luck health and love everybody needs and deserves. And of course great racing along the side Wink

No problem David, I was quite angry by then due to the heat of the moment, but wth, we're here to have fun racing and not to get angry. It was just a racing incident with no bad intention of causing damage. Smile

The spirit of Christmas must have entered inside me Tongue

Congrats for your new asignment

Thanks Gorka. Jesus was in that race :p.

All, see Riks post here at ISI forum. Does anyone else see this when watching replay of other drivers?

No, haven't seen this yet. Will watch replay again later but I shouldve noticed it rightaway me thinks... Could it depend on recording detail setting? What do you have it set at?

Little report:

Lot's of grip at the end of practice. I was surprised by Gorka's speed in qualify but even more by Rikards best lap. Big Grin

Engine bogged down a little at start of race 1 so I didn't make most of the clean side. After a couple of laps chasing, Rikards mistake made me lead for a while but when I saw him pit, I knew I made a mistake by driving another lap. I had some traffic that lap and when I pitted, someone was pitting just before my spot so I either had to turn in slow and tight to park it as neatly as I could, saving stop time, or just slam it in there, losing time at the stop itself. I chose slow and neat and stop took 47 secs so that worked but I probably suffered from the slow entry and came out couple of secs behind Rikard.
So I pushed and gained a little at the cost of tirewear but I never got up close enough. Then someone I was about to lap pulled to the right to let me pass but I was already commited to that line so I had to go over the grass, just touched his wheels and spun back on track, in opposite direction. I panicked a little as I stood there in the middle of the track but I quickly slammed it in reverse, drove off track and rejoined.
Gorka had passed me in meantime but he overshot the next corner so I passed him again. One lap to go with a little damage and G on my tail but I managed to keep second position.

Race 2 I was lucky to be on right side so I was able to avoid the mess. I was a little puzzled seeing Dj flying by at t1 as I thought I just saw him crash some seconds ago...
Then I saw cars going off track at the hairpin, immediately knew what was going on (sebring f2 anybody?) and I thought; that ain't going to happen to me.
And for quite some time I managed, trying to reel in Robert H who was in first. Then at the second hairpin I lost my braking point tho I knew the signs were gone... :Smile I was going Grrr while I rejoined but didn't see John Cook coming. I'm so sorry mate... :-\ We touched and hit the barrier at the right. Then our wheels tangled and while trying to unhook ourselves, we waltzed across the track and finally got loose at the other side. A friendly thanks-for-dancing-honk to John and on my way again. I decided to pit and repair cuz I didn't want to lose more time for another lap to decide if damage was big enough. Pit stop again was 47 secs, damage must have been very little, maybe I shouldve waited a little longer.
Then I had a very sloppy outlap, immediately hurting my tires. Dj came out of pit in front and I was 3rd. Tried to chase him up a little but 3rd place it was and stayed. Smile

Cheers,

Marcel.

I have replied to you at isiforums, djc.

I think you're right. The cars that are close to my car are not affected, only the cars on the other side of the track.

I wonder if it has something to do with the new settings for replay compression?

changlelog b382:
"Switched replay compression to low by default; the PLR file option “Compress Replay” now goes from 0-4 rather than 0-1. This takes less than half the time to write out at the end of a session (which is the source of the delay after long sessions), and typically uses only about 5-10% more space. If the delay is still annoying, consider turning off compression completely."

@marcel
I'm using highest replay fidelity.
