For those that are planning to race in April at Portimao…. (Event hasn’t been opened up beyond our shared community - yet - so this thread is intended to just be a general discussion for now…)

How’re you getting on?

I’ve not driven LMU since our June race last year - and aside from that race, I’ve never dabbled with car setup in LMU as I only did the fixed-setup Daily Races before that…

Without a regular practice server running, it’ll be very hard to judge where you are on performance, setup and other racing tips - hence this discussion…

So…. What kind of laptimes are we managing (under what fuel load/setup) for instance? Relative to the default AI, I’m precisely nowhere at the moment - plumb last in fact!

LMU - Fuel Ratio setting suggestion for Bahrain Outer (GT3s)

The fuel vs Virtual Energy concept takes some getting used to in LMU - particularly for cars like the GT3s that aren't hybrid and only have petrol to worry about!

Briefly - WEC no longer BOP cars using fuel-flow rates, restrictors etc. (well, not for GT3s in this context anyway) and use the notion of Virtual Energy instead (measured by a torque sensor on the rear axle - it gets around the whole issue of completely different engines by just measuring the amount of energy dumped on the rear axle).

Anyway - a couple of key points:
i) If you run out of VE (but still have some petrol left), you will get a SG (Stop/Go) of 100 seconds! That's a whole lap at Bahrain Outer... Note that if you run out of VE entering the pits and coast to your box - you're still going to get the SG.
ii) If you run out of petrol (but still have some VE), your race is over.
iii) Notwithstanding the above, you can use the Fuel Ratio setting to adjust how much physical fuel is put into the tank when you ask for 100% VE. The 'ideal' (for me) is to find a ratio such that the estimated number of laps for VE is equal to (or slightly less) than the estimated number of laps for the physical fuel...

The HUD overlay gives a readout of the current state of physical fuel (litres left in tank and estimated laps) and the VE (%ge left - and estimated laps).

For the Mustang, the ideal Fuel Ratio is about 0.83, 0.82 for the McLaren.

Increasing this number increases the physical amount of fuel added to the tank - too much and you are just carrying dead weight. Too little and you may have to pit early (while VE and physical fuel > zero) or run out of fuel, ending your race.

Reducing the figure might result in you running out of physical fuel before VE.

Other GT3s might vary (remember, this is part of the BOP) and your actual fuel/VE usage might vary from the estimates (short-shifting, lift'n'coast vs shifting at the red-line).

The suggestion is that you set the fuel ratio to around 0.83, set Virtual Energy to 100% in your car setup screens and then hit the track. If the estimated laps from fuel is a little higher than that for VE, I'd say you're good to go. These figures are in the bottom-right display of the HUD. Physical fuel is the pinkish bar with a fuel-pump symbol, VR is marked 'NRG' (EnErGy!)

(Fuel ratio can be changed under the Powertrain section of setup).

Full details will be provided updated shortly - LMU is not as easy to host as rf2 so please bear with us. As server time costs money to rent, you are advised to practice offline as the server will only be available online for the event itself.

The basic details so far:

Requirements:
Track & cars are part of the base content. You can use paid-for cars if you like but this is optional.
You may need to create a SimGrid account, follow the SCB community and register for the event sometime between the race being added to the schedule and the event itself. Details to follow!

Date- Tuesday 18th March
Practice- Starts no later than 7pm UK time (might be able to bring this forward)
Qualy- 15 minutes from 7:30PM (approx. - session changeover delay might affect this)
Race- 1hour from 7:45PM

Track: Bahrain Outer Circuit
Tyre warmers: enabled
Tyre wear: normal (you should not need to change tyres unless you damage them)
Fuel use: x2 (you will need to pit at least twice. See notes to follow regarding LMU refuelling if you are not familiar with it).
Setup: setups are free/open. See notes to follow
Time of day/weather - event will be run in daylight and dry conditions.
Vehicles: GT3 class.

The track and two of the GT3 cars (McLaren & Ford) are in the base content and do not require paid DLC.As far as I’m aware, if you have paid-for GT3 cars, you can use these (it’s not like the old rf2 days where everyone had to have the same content).

The McLaren and Ford - although free to use - are far from ‘poor cousins’ of the paid-for cars. In fact, I will almost certainly be using the Ford as it is pretty stable and wears its tyres fairly evenly. Previously, I used the McLaren for quite a while and this, too, is easy and nice to drive. Don’t feel left out of you on,y have these cars!

Refuelling can be pretty confusing in LMU as WEC doesn’t set a maximum fuel volume (for BOP) as such - it defines an amount of ‘virtual energy’ you can use per stint. However, if you run out of actual fuel, your race is over. If you run out of virtual energy (but not actual fuel), you will get a drive-through penalty.

The other *really* important thing to remember about refuelling is that when you set a refuel value in your pit stop menu, *this is not how much fuel is added*. It is how much fuel is left in the tank when you leave the pits. You can end up underfueled if you pit early! In a test race today, I used two full tanks of fuel - plus c. 46 litres. This was about right when pitting on the last possible lap of fuel. Use the HUD display to track how much fuel and VE you have left and pit on the last full (safe) lap that will ensure neither fuel nor VE run out.

Le Mans Ultimate is proving to be a cracking sim - great physics, great graphics performance (quality vs processing power compared to rf2, say) - and ultimately (see what I did there? ) it looks as if the current modern machinery will be joined by historic tracks (soon) and cars (bit further away).

There’s been regular chat at our SCB affiliate (https://discord.com/invite/dcfHb68fnQ) about LMU as there are a number of active drivers there - and even an official Beta tester…

So, a suggestion has been made that SR4L/SCB could host a fun LMU test event. Although LMU can’t (currently - not sure about the future) be hosted in the same way rf2 is (on home servers), community groups can rent a public server by the hour for (reportedly) less than the price of a coffee.

So how about it? The initial proposal is to take over a Tuesday evening slot in the near future -suspending the normal rf2 TueFun for a week.

Format TBD but :

-1)GT3 cars - the McLaren is free content and has been my workhorse of my first 30 or so online races. If you have the paid-for GT3 cars, LMU allows us to race together even if some drivers have only the base content. Track will be based on content.
0) Majority of practice offline to save server hire cost
I) Slightly earlier start (say 7PM Qualy?)
Ii) 2/3 short warmup races (15 mins say)?
Iii) One feature race (30 mins say - possibly with a fuel multiplier to force a pit stop?)

So how about it? I know the following drivers have LMU - what about the rest (please comment below - noting - for info only - whether you have any of the paid-for DLC packs)m

DJCruicky
Myles (Mr Fox)
Stu (SCB)
Paul Martin (SCB)
Bruce (long-time SR4L but lately SCB)
Jonathan (we've only got a few weeks before he - literally - sets sail again)

I think the ND2 Mazda MX5s should be quite good fun at Brands Hatch GP - so that’s what we’ll try.

Any problems, please Direct Message me as I will get an alert that way.

We were introduced to the ND2 MX5s by SCB last week. They are quite a lot of fun for our kind of racing - a combination of very generous drafting effect, ABS brakes (and brake fade...) means that 'sending it' is constantly on the cars but fraught with risk in terms of how late you brake and whether your brakes will be cooked by the time you reach the apex...

Hopefully (after a major fusebox upgrade) my mains power issues should be a thing of the past and the IP address of the server will be much more stable than over Christmas/NY.

Hi all,

the new championshiups in LMU start next week. This might be a good Moment to give it a try.

https://community.lemansultimate.com/ind...on-2.5582/

Unfortunately there is an extra subscription to the race control service needed for that.

The daily and weekly races are for free.

It would be cool to race with SR4L member at LMU but how to recognize each others as no clan or club tags are allowed.

You can find me as Tobias Schaugg in the Driver list.
If you are active there, please post your driver name here if you like.

best, Tobas
