One time again, last night, I spent 3 hours to get inside our 1979 championship server.
For countless times I got the dreary "Package not available" message.

I knew I had the track installed, as we had raced there countless times before but when I tried to find it in the 'Packages" inside game, all I could find was "sm_Silverstone_Legends_v1.4" . I subscribed and I unsubscribed many times with no result and then I looked inside single player mode and discovered that I had the right track so that part was ok.

Then I started checking about .rfmod, I knew I had it when I entered server 2 months ago at Kyalami, so it should be ok.
To check everything was right, I downloaded the .rfmod from France announcement, I placed it into my Packages folder at my game installation, I got the "do you want to replace this file whith this file blah blah" message, and as the files had the same name and same size, I didnt see any point in replacing the file.
After many tries I couldnt find my way in, I did the replacement.
To cut the story short, the .rfmod was not the same, it was v1.2 but I had no way to know that, as file title was the same.

Yes, I was away for some time, but still I had the knowledge to go around our site, which is not easy for the first time as is for all sites (maybe admins could do some tidying up there), go to Steam and find rFactor 2 Library (which for me is a monument of making simple things NASA stuff) and try to figure things out .

Imagine now somebody who wants a quick race with us, sees our server with cool stuff (1979 F1 cars, Silverstone 1975 GP) and no way to get in.
I bet that the guy will just pass, he is not going to spend his time configuring our site or Steam's nightmare, he will simply look for a place where everything will be downloaded automatically for him from the server.
Even if he has entered our server before sometime ago, like me, he is not going to spend 3 hours like me to figure out whats wrong.

Even if downloading stuff from the server takes a long time, I am absolutely sure that this is the way to go if we want to have a populated everyday server with new people, as it was at the first days of rFactor 2 ( I bet a lot of us remember how it was).
Even if the ability level of the people who entered was sometimes low, from these everyday races we met friends who stayed with us till now.

I will understand if what Im asking is not possible but I would like to know if there are valid reasons for it, or if our new admins are willing to do something about it.
Also I wish our community would participate in this discussion.

Hi everyone,
Just to inform you that due to wife taking new afternoon activities starting this new year I will no longer be able to practice at all during weedays. Because of that I've taken de decision of quitting racing the league events. I consider it would be pretty stressful and frustrating racing not having done properly practice sessions to work on a setup and strategies, and that would kill all the fun.
I'll keep my co-admin + race director roles and I am taking the new role of a test driver for our community, hoping this will bring better events and a better experiencie for everyone.

Cheers.

i thought the last race was going to be Indy , realistically i think we need a longer and wider track like indy /daytona/texas or we will spend more time in the pits than ontrack .

Hi guys,

For private use, I started to convert the W196 car. It's a nice car and I thought I'd give it a go and asked for permission to publish (when finished of course).
That is pending at the moment.......thats why I posted here; not public. If not my best thought, please replace.

Anyway; I asked Nikos as he drove these things if he would test. He told me to ask here on the forum too.
Here I am
I just put in in the game, made some .tgm files and that's not right in one go of course.
As this mod was a HoF; I would like to do justice to the original but I can't get rF1 working on my system.
But before I get to the flex-chassis, new engine model and such; I need to know if the base is good. Does it drive like it should? Than I can go on and maybe one day the could even be a fun event with it; you may never know.

Its a smal mod at the moment, 22mb.
Who is willing to give it a spin and give some thoughts of how it drives?

Please let me know and I send you a link.
Thanks in advance!

Changelog V0.23

Chassis: implemented new flex-chassis
Steering: new steering model with “double calculated angles” should give more feel and heavier steering
Sound: volume idle up, “roar” from 5000 rpm upwards should be more noticeable
added windrush, transmission sound and brake hiss
Engine: new engine model implemented; should give the “double torque high” from 5000 rpm up and peak at 6400/8100 rpm
Brakes: cold- or to hot brakes now should significantly lower the brake torque
Tires: not much change, just a bit for balance. Please try out the two compounds and never mind the “hard” or “soft” as they are just two different kinds with no regards to hardness

Note that there are no “Fixed” lines in here; conversion is in progress and I am working towards the point where you guys say: “that’s it!”.
