Any more news about the car, Wim? (no posibility on permission for racing?)

RE: F1-1955 MB W196 conversion. - Navigator - 01-03-2017

There is little to no news; the guy doesn't respond anymore.......

I did work on it though and have made very big changes. Problem with that is; it's an awefull lot of work trying to tune it.
New cpm tires; its a real pain in the but to get them proper. Just taking the old grip values from a former version (the one you wanted Gorgias) doesn't work at al!
I made another flex-chassis yet again; there was no room for tuning the steering system in the "old" new one.
This, together with the tires and (thus needed) changes to the hdv, makes the new version take up a bit more time.

If the guy responds, I will let you all know.

I can put the changelog in upfront, but the version will be uploaded later this week; it has to be something usefull to test:

Changelog V0.26

Steering & Flex-chassis: yet another chassis to make room for improvements in the steering system. Battling the wheel should be way less now but the feel should still be good or even better
Tires: Implemented new contact patch (CPM) tires. Temporary multiplier is out and they are now specified with the proper width and height in the nodes like they should be.
There are now several tires to select; each has the same compound and dimensions but grip is different in each version. Please give some feedback on what set of tires you think suits this car best or drives like it should. Finding the point where the car would “steer by throttle” was a bit of a struggle to say the least
Graphics: made some changes in shaders for the windscreen from the outside, steering wheel and driver
Suspension: due to the changes in the chassis file and steering (HDV) the suspension is being rewritten. Goal was to make it feel- and act “normal” again. Weight of the car has become 835 Kg and suspension is adjusted to that
Brakes: lowered braking power and widened the “heat-band” in which the optimum temperature is active. Also overheating temperature is higher and added cooling (just a bit for now)
Weight shift: added the temporary option to shift the weight of the car to see if it is needed to alter that. Please try it out and say what you think it should be
Speed: top-speed has been altered as all sites state it should be 300km/h
Lap-times: working on those as they are to fast at this point. Lowering the grip makes the car slower, but getting the balance right (and adding top-speed) makes it faster again.
Making the car slower by only tire grip reduction does not work; car is undrivable then.
Power: in that same order, the car will accelerate a bit less at very low rpm (up to about 3000rpm) but should still get “the kick” at around 5000rpm

Will keep on testing it, a shame the owner of the model doesn't want to share it.
Just keep the phisics and maybe someday we can find other 3d model of the same car which is allowed to be used by us.

Thanks for sticking with it.
That is actually a very good idea!! Never thought of that; another model........
I go and have a look, thanks.

I know an spaniard guy who made an amazing 1958-9 mod, rf1, same tyres. BRM P 125, Ferrari Dino 246 and Porsche F1.

RE: F1-1955 MB W196 conversion. - Navigator - 01-03-2017

Maybe that's something to step over to?
Could you give him a ring and ask?

Would be nice cars also.

This sounds very good.

RE: F1-1955 MB W196 conversion. - Navigator - 04-03-2017

Sorry for my earlier "end of this week" message; I was a bit enthusiastic...... This may take a bit longer.

Also; no answer back yet......Dont think its coming Sad

@sdancourt; did you have any succes with the guy you know?

Another model seems impossible to find.

RE: F1-1955 MB W196 conversion. - Navigator - 08-03-2017

Well, I tried it another way now: https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/wip-w196-without-model-help-please.54773/#post-882070

Had to do something Wink

Anyway; a lot of driving needed on the tyres to get some decent sets in there to test. Just this saturday I pulled my back out and sitting in that damn low chair.........I need the fire department to get me out of there and so no option for now.
Asked my wife to do some laps........none of the tyres were any good as she hits all there is to hit Wink

Sorry, the newer version has -again- some delay.
Just pulled a muscle I think so it should get better in a few days.

RE: F1-1955 MB W196 conversion. - 1959nikos - 17-03-2017

Since Navigator couldnt get permission for this conversion, in fact he received a denial by mod's owner, Im locking this thread and removing links of Navigators work on it.

Anybody wishing to try his work on it for his/her own use, please contact Navigator for it.

The rest of this thread continues as "Navigator's new conversion"
