Sim Racers 4 Life - Fun Events - 60's Open Wheelers at Belgium
#21
My "take-away" from the Fun Event:
1. ISI has got to notice that a lot of people love historic open wheel cars with cross-ply tires and minimal/no aero. So many of us have a rich background in Grand Prix Legends and are still looking for its successor. The Eve, Spark, and BT20 are a start, but we want a lot more choices. I'd even pay money for it if a third party does the mod well.
2. Fun Event without a password will attract a big crowd, but will include those looking for a quick pick up race who don't care about pit stops or being careful of each other. However it does attract drivers to SR4L. So is the main goal to attract new drivers or provide fun for members? To do both the events may need to run without pitstops.
3. I prefer running with people I can trust; so I probably won't run open events any more.
4. Even with zero damage, a spin can lead to getting stuck in the scenery and ending a race. First hand experience. Smile Thanks for organizing this.

I decided(optimistically) to try an SR4L fun event. I managed to finish the first race despite being knocked off 3 or 4 times. 2nd race only got hit once I think, ending up last before I was able to get past the first corner. Interestingly by the end of the first lap I was 3/4 of the way back to where I started. It would seem that trying to win the race on the first lap may not be prudent to getting to finish. Unfortunately I was disconnected from the server(again). Would these events be more fun if we got more "race" track time by being allowed to reconnect? Just a question.

Having x10 fuel consumption usually makes the car handling change much more dramatically(and can be unrealistic, changing over the course of a single lap) due to the weight change. Some struggle with the cars the way they are!

SPA has a lot of road crown effect that can contribute to instability if you are in the wrong place.

Jimmy C has some good feedback.

Multi class open wheel was an interesting twist that added to the fun!

I am not the expert here by far but I do think we need to do something about our starts it really is depressing to work so hard at this and not get past the first turn without mayhem it is ruining the racing for many. Yesterday in race two I was slow in takeoff and was wrecked out three times before I got to hay bales that's just crazy then the car gets stuck in a guard rail????? after next hit just makes fun race no fun.
I don't know answer but we need to fix it before we lose racers out of frustration. We need to race like we are in our own car with care not a throw away .
Sorry just hurts to try hard and get in 2 minutes of a race

One does not have to be an expert to see that the starts are catastrophic, Tim Smile Absolutely understandable. Maybe I'm pessimistic, but I think it's impossible to avoid those starts as it is now. It's simply not possible to have clean races with all these people joining for quick pick up races.

Even though we have a very large grid and it's good for SR4L in one way, it could also hurt us because of all these crashes and not very clean racing.

I agree and I am not talking about just wrecks they happen in races I have been in some and caused some that's ok but we have to make guys understand not to go crazy at start if you are faster you will find a place to pass. Most guys try but its crazy

Tim you werent in the servers when RF2 started.
If you were, and suppose some others that are complaining, you would have seen what total chaos meant.
Even when we started SR4L it was much much worse than what we are experiencing nowdays.

Really guys, I was thinking of posting how Im positively impressed by the new players that come in lately, I find them well behaved and disciplined compared to how we were when wa all started here, honestly.

Anyway, whatever side I look at it, I prefer 10000% our crowded field now, than the single digit attendance we were all used to.

Only problem is grid configuration in Belgium. Cars are too close to each other and that makes it really difficult for a clean start, cars at the right, at the left... the orange and slippery pitlane line. It's really difficult to get cleanly through Eau Reuge.

Main premise here should be:
Always check the car in front; if it brakes, you brake instead of trying to overtake it (most probably you'll crash a car on your left or right).
Unless 100% sure if you have no one at your side don't close the line at Eau Reuge.

We can try a partial solution, for champs races, in this case for Spa start. A bit complicated but can work.

Just ordering a "formation start" thats long till poleman exit Eau Rouge (or Les Combes). Before Poleman exited the assigned turn, everybody goes at his pace (says 100 Mph) and keeping his starting place.

Kind of rolling start, nobody can overpass a competitor until exiting the assigned turn.

With 3 races to go I think official league races must stay as they are.

We can think/experiment things during fun events but in my opinion starts will always be hard.

For those drivers who have 3 monitors, do they bring a better looking of what is around you at the starts?
