SR4L welcomes you to the 1979 Formula 1 Season Championship

Round 4 - Australia

1979 Season Rules

[SPOILER]
please read some basic rules http://Here

Cars

The 1979 season will consist of 15 races that will take place once every two Sundays. (see the list of tracks below)

We have chosen 5 great cars from the 1979 Mod to battle with.
Brabham
Ferrari
Ligier
Renault
Williams

Drivers taking part in the championship will have to chose one car for the season so choose wisely. They are all subtly different.

Drivers wishing to form teams should try and keep balance in mind.
Remembering it's fun to get something out of the seasons and the more people involved throughout the grid makes a huge difference.
Your team is allowed to use two different cars but the driver must stick with his car of choice for the season.

We look forward to seeing the Team names and Livery that comes with them.

I will post a screenshot later this evening, but I am getting a graphical glitch. There's this sort of semi-transparent sphere right behind the cars reflecting parts of the scenery. I will tinker with the graphical settings to see if I can remove it, but in the meantime if anyone figures out which setting works, let me know Wink

Yesterday I also had a freeze of a second or so and saw either Tim or Ricky or Tobias complain about it as well (sorry, can't remember who said it Smile). Hopefully that's not a recurring theme on this track :/

Lastly, what are the cutting rules here? It's fairly easy to cut a large part of the first chicane by jumping the curbs, as well as running wide over the curbs leading onto the back straight Smile

This happens to me as well , if i watch a replay the halo is there
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

For me i would say leave cutting open , that way its the same for everyone , as there is no warning etc the only way to police it would be to watch a replay for every driver and penalise as required , even if we agree not to cut there might be situations where a driver is forced to cut to avoid contact or when the red mist takes over and a driver decides to make up some time , hitting the chicane hard is worth around 1.5 secs .

We all seem fair racers here, I was hoping we could all agree to keeping a wheel on track, and not excessively jump the entire chicane Smile

I fear it’ll be a chicane cutting contest otherwise, with the risks of crashing, and not to mention the danger of lapping other cars around this area.

The sphere being described sounds like the heat haze effect which isn't implemented properly. In your player.JSON file change the "Heat FX Fade Speed" to 0 which disables the attempt to draw heat haze.

1.5 seconds is a massive amount to gain but how could you police it every car every lap watching the replay would take days

I know, it depends on how much we trust each other to follow the rules Smile

Overshooting the chicane can happen exceptionally, but are some really going to cut intentionally to gain time? (Serious question.)

Guess we need sausage curbs Big Grin

Otherwise I'm fine as well with cutting it, I just find it a bit of a shame we're all blatantly going to be jumping the chicane rather than following the track (plus it increases the risk of crashing there) Tongue

Sorry, but where can I even like the post? I did not find that function.

I will certainly go with the rules, but I think this is asking for problems for no real reasons. Policing such a thing is not worth it. If the track design does not enforce it in some way, leave it open. My $0.02.

Thanks for you thoughts, always welcome. In this case we have to go with what's best for keeping the racing in order. If we make it a free for all it can get very messy, especially post race with many complaints. I managed to watch every driver race some laps and they all drove the chicane with great sportsmanship. Impressive and helps maintain SR4L as a great place to race.

I lacked confidence attacking the chicane, but I had a stream of issues coming at me, culminating in an embarrassing dnf.

Its all behind us now, and even if I dont agree with you on everything, let me thank you for running this championship in a very smooth way, deciding when it matters and still be open for discussion when there is time and opportunity. Very professional, even aspirational!

That said, I had an abysmal race. But 100% my fault, at some point it totally fell apart. I‘ll skip that coffe next time. Congrats to all survivors including my team mate.
