Addendum. I did a 60-lap run last night. The right-rear tyre had all yellow blocks by the end, and while a really smooth lap could still hit a mid- or low-1:03, most laps at the end were in the 1:04s, particularly after having spun it a couple times and getting nervous about how much throttle I could apply safely coming off the turns.

It's really a case of "race the track -- not other cars". Battling someone hard for position is just going to cost you later.

I did one lap in the 1:02s early in the run.
