These cars are based on 1960, the last time the field was all front-engine cars. Here's a Mobil promotional film about the race.

It seems from the numbers they provide that our lap times are comparable to real life, but our straight-line speed is down about 15 mph.
They nonchalantly say that Eddie Russo was "reminded" about his worn tyre, failing to mention that he lost an eye in that accident and would never race again. They also don't mention that several spectators were injured when a grandstand collapsed early on. Obviously, being a promotional film, they wanted to ignore the bad stuff.
The race's record for most lead changes stood until 2012.
