Hi all,
where are your reports guys?
was it so boring that it is not worth hearing about it?
Thats probably true in my case but I will let you know anyway.
Q was the highlight of my race as I could significantly improve my PB from 1.05.9 to 1.05.3. Some of it I alos attribute to the mircle rubber that must have been applied and some daredevilism on my side. I manage to get from P11 to P9 in the last lap of the Q and that felt alright.
Unfortunately it was the last positive thing I can say about my race performance as things went downhill from there. Lost 2 Positions in the first corner then kept it for a few rounds until I crashed badly through a self caused driving mistake in the attempt to use some of the Q daredevilism in T1 to gain some ground. I was left with bent steering and it was too early to pit. The car was still drivable and I could even gain one position but lost it again when my monitor informed me that it would shut down in about one minute to safe energy. Unfortunately the reset button is right behind the steeering wheel and it was difficult to keep a good line while trying to reach the button and so the hard earned position was gone again. I then sat 43 seconds in the pit to get a more drivable car. I think I moved to the end of the field with that but with this race being a 55 lap race I felt there was still some chance left and I tried to keep it clean from there.
This more or less worked out and I could regain some positions passing racing buddy Ricky in the very last lap of the race and finishing on P15. Not a great result but still a rewarding experience. I really appreciate the skill factor it takes to be fast and consistent. There is still a long way to go.
In the middle of the race I was confused again by some really untimely requests for pitstop. Something like 5 laps before I actually ran out of fuel. Is this caused by RF" itself based on my chosen Pit strategy or is it crew chief trying to be helpful there but then getting it wrong. Have you experienced somthing similar? It also happened to me in Brasil and in both cases I was so distracted that I made some stupid mistakes.
Best
