Wed Night Fun Races - 2022 - SR4L BMW M1 LE

After watching this video it looks a tricky but very funny track to tame.
The video guide is made with a porche quite similar to the one we use.

Thanks for that - I’ve often used such vids in the past to get a head start on the most appropriate lines at a new track. It’s quite often worth it (IMHO) even if the demo car isn’t that similar to what you’re driving.

I‘ve never tried this track before either - it was Gertjan, our new visitor from the S397 forum that suggested it. Looks quite like the track that Mike Brewer occasionally visited in some of the US-based editions of Wheeler Dealers…

The top corner is tricky and easy to run off the track but many of the others are nice sweepers that are not too dissimilar to Mosport.

I did try the latest version of Assen and various layouts of Hockenheim but Willow Springs stood out. Nice and short too so a 6-lapper will be c. 9 mins and will probably give us an extra race before everyone scatters.

Interesting! I’ve done a few laps after studying the video - some of the features (e.g. Turn 8/9 water tower) aren’t in the rf2 track but otherwise it looks pretty good. I’m currently achieving almost exactly the same lap times as his final stint (1:26s) but this will probably get faster as the track rubbers in.

Some of his tips seem quite hard to implement with my setup (Turn 4/5 is awkward) but a very useful guide!

Myles, I'd like to get back into the Wednesday fun. When I tried to join the Willow server rF2 did an automatic download of the track (which it completed) but stalled at the installation routine. I had to kill the game but was then able to run Willow 0.96 offline once I restarted rF2. But when I try to join the Willow server it stalls at "joining server". (I wait like 2 minutes.) What do you think?

I would check your Installed/Vehicles folder(s) (you might have two - one under Bin64 and one under rf2 root?) and see if you’ve got v0.95 of Willow Springs installed… At some point, it has been on the SR4L server and I don’t know if that would cause a conflict.

FWIW, Georgio and I connected ok earlier today - but I installed WS via Steam subscription rather than auto-download from SR4L.

…and are you sure you’ve got v1.33 (and not v1.31) of the cars installed?

Standby, let me dig around. BTW, I was able to run the 911 RSR 1973 at Willows 96 offline.

Wrong version of car. Need to find version 133. If rF2 detects and automatically downloads the correct track why the heck can't it do the same for car?!! Got errands to run so will tackle later. rF2 is such a pain in the ass to use! Love the driving but everything else sucks.

Thanks for the help. Hope to be there Wed.

Check out post number 8 here http://www.simracers4life.com/forum/inde...post-29749
Check there are no older versions still in your package folder.
Failing that Myles has all the download links at the top of every page on this forum.
Good luck.

Sorry I'm such a whiney baby! Rolleyes I sometimes vent too easily. No insult intended Myles (or any other admin) if a server isn't set up to the nth degree. (And maybe it is but rF2 has too many gotchas.) It's on me to man-up!

I'm getting more and more lazy as I get older. Seems life consists of nothing but troubleshooting. (Doesn't every man's?) From the washer to the lawn mower to the wifi-modem to the VR goggles. I grow weary of it and tend to call for help at lower and lower hurdles. Sad

Glad to see you made it Rick - some excellent battles through the evening all round (and one random muppet who would’ve been invited to leave had he not done so himself at the end of his first ‘race’…)

We’ll go back to Willow Springs at some point, I’m sure (but I feel it does need sketchy/fast cars like the RSR to bring it alive) Cool

Yepp, it was an other nice night with a lovely combo.

I think Willow would be a blast with Catehams too..

Was good, thank you Smile.
My glory moment of the night, after qualifying on Pol, was to drive straight off the track turn 2 of the first race while leading o_O . Happens to the best of us Big Grin.

I thought that crasher driver was doing it on purpose, but after watching the replay today I think he was just a newbie. Not just a newbie but the ultimate mega newbie Big Grin.

At least four of last nights drivers own/have owned Caterham and Westfields and at least two of us have competed in them in some shape or form Wink

We’ll give him the benefit of the doubt then! To be fair, the nature of the track meant that - when he took me out of the lead at least - I had no time to react as I came over a brow and he’d have no idea someone was coming…

Provisionally, next weeks track is Kyalami 2020 (up now). I did quite fancy Jerez but the Workshop version has graphical-load issues whenever the grandstands are in view.

Glad to be back. Had a blast. I plan to do more if retirement doesn't get in my way! Big Grin Man I love this car.

I deleted the first race. I regret that now because I was oblivious to the muppet. Would have liked to re-watch to see what y'all are talking about.

I'm sure most of you guys are aware but some pretty iconic testing took place at Willows.

I’ll dig out either my replay file or the server one at some point,

Jan 26th is provisionally a 5-lapper at Kyalami 2020 v1.55

If you have problems accessing the server, check that you don't already have an older version of this track installed.

Feb 4th is provisionallyhttp:// Watkins Glen International (No Chicane) - 5 lapper.

Careful on terminology there. "Willows" is the town in which a different track in California is located -- Thunderhill Raceway Park. Different circuit and town than Willow Springs. But yes that video is from Willow Springs, which is used for a lot of testing and TV commercials or other TV projects.

Kyalami took a while to rubber in last night but saw some good close racing again (and some, erm, spirited driving in the first race? Felt a bit more like the last race of an evening! Wink)

Watkins Glen is up on the server already - please let me know if there are any issues as it did throw a texture error and shut the server down on first activation…
